WOW! This was really nice and shows that you have class, Ice T. I agree, music usually falls upon tastes and age brackets. When I was little, Jodeci and Mary J. Blige were hot. Luckily, I was blessed to have a young father who liked the music I liked (for the most part). My grand[parents, however, were a different story. Nah, they liked a song or two, but they didn't care because that wasn't they generation. And guess what? It wasn't right or wrong. I didn't like Soulja Boy music whatsoever, but I understood that he had a generation of kids who loved it. I was grown when he hit the scene and my mind was on other things. I was into investing and making money, chile. I _cain't_ front though. The beef was funny as hell. Y'all had me rollin'. Nah, did they (Soulja Boy and them) actually ruin hip-hop? Maybe...maybe not. We can ask the same question for NWA and 2 Live Crew. Truth be told, gangsta rap ruined the genre (says the brothas on the East Coast)...

It isn't like anything Ice said was wrong in regards to Soulja Boy. Ice T's mistake is assuming that all young people like what's on the radio. Plenty of them that don't. They just don't have enough award shows or syndicated radio shows that cater to that kind of audience. Mainstream is what has their attention and it shapes their outlook on EVERYTHING. What to support or what's trendy. If eating tide pods were trendy why would you expect their taste in music to be any different? 🤷 Just need different divisions in Hip Hop so other people don't feel left out. Stop trying to merge everything together because that's not it.

I turned 49 this past November and when I was in high school the sag, baggy pants thing as far as I can remember really took off! Then just like all thee other generations that came before us each of those generations elders and parents just hated the clothes their kids chose to wear! One of my friends for a class project he did for our history class was about fashion over thee years and how it causes big problems! He rested his case so to speak at thee end of his fashion history report by showing the saggy baggy pants he liked to wear and pictures of him wearing them with his folks in the pictures looking angry he was wearing them, which they took those pictures to help him with his argument, he then showed his folks old school day pictures and they more or less had the hippie look and thing going on, bell bottoms, old tight generic football jerseys with just number on them! So his final word was his mother giving him an earful about his sagging pants and he pretended to reach into a picture of his mom and her friends from the past and he says mom I apologize that you do not like my choice of clothing right now but grandma and grandpa told me you'll get over it because they had the same disagreements with you mom and they tell told me everything will be fine! He then said I want to do my part for my generation by reaching back to you and your generation and I'm gonna bring your bell 🔔 bottoms back to the future because you had style mom! The bells you rocked are fly mom! So he is pulling a pair of bell bottoms out of thee old picture saying mom look we are the same! Only difference is we took your fly style & gear and flipped the game on your generation! we wore the same pants! They were just different! Then he grabs hold of the bell bottoms holds them upside down & steps into one of the pant legs that he had some belt loops sewed onto around the bottom of the pant leg and says mom I told you we flipped your game! Our pants are simply just bell bottoms turned upside down mom! Then he finishes pulling the pants up puts his belt on and rocked the bells while getting his sag on!

Y’all was dancing to songs like Humpty Hump then got mad at a TEENAGER for making a dance song for other TEENS. Hip hop didn’t die. Old niggas gave up. Could’ve easily continued making music for y’all own fan base.

I agree. Look at the majority of the old school rappers… most of them have changed up their style and sound to try to sound like what is in and trending instead of staying true to their own style. It’s why the old fans stopped supporting the rappers they used to listen to.

I always point to ice-t on why rappers from back in the day don't comment on today's rap, because they gave ice-t so much shit. But ice was right, Today's rap is purposely bad. You cannot point to one rapper today under 30 and say that person is going to be a legend. If you take shit and wrap it in a pretty bow it's still shit
