I think the reason it cuts the ballistic gelatin so well is because the porrous metal has such good non stick properties, ballistic gelatin normally creates tons of friction when cutting it normally which makes it really hard to cut
I'm certain this is why. Far sharper blades with far better geometry still sometimes struggle to get cuts that clean. It has to have something to do with the pressure of the gas, effectively pushing the wound apart as it goes. The heat itself probably isn't doing much.
This is so fucking metal it brings a tear to my eye. Seriously this is the coolest, most beautiful shit ever, you actually invented the flame sword with futuristic bread technology, this is amazing.

Historical fencing guy here. This is interesting. I had the idea for something very similar over 10 years ago, but I didn’t have (and still don’t) have access to the methods for making it, but here you are, confirming the validity of my idea for me. The design could be refined, of course. I think the thickness is excessive, as you could get away with a much narrower channel and a different internal support structure, and I can’t see a reason not to have a distal taper. If the porous material could be limited to the edge and internal compartments like furrows leading out from the main channel, it would probably lead to better structural integrity overall. Now we get to really wishful thinking, but if the printer could fill the surface with microscopic nozzles, the fire could be shaped and focused to both direct it away from the user and create a more intense flame. In the realm of 'unrealistic' would be to not use gas, but a system of airflow heated by internal electric arcs to produce hot plasma… but that would require not just metal printing but multiple materials like insulators and conductors.
Not all metals are highly conductive, and some powder bed printers have a more precise method of powder placement than seen here (though reusability takes a significant hit when mixing metal powders). Any SLS printer *can* produce porous parts, but it's generally avoided and considered a defect; so I can believe that the factory mentioned here is the only production facility that can do it reliably. Still, get a printer with precision powder placement to swap between conductive and insulator metals and use a technique to get a porous partand you could have your electric arc plasma furnace sword.

15:42 brother that sword is filled with cursed energy. That should be in JJK
@Mike Shake, Hey I had a cool idea for the sword. If you had a design of a dragon that ran the length of the blade and buffed/grinned the rest of the blade around the pattern it would look like a flaming dragon (theoretically) and the blade could be even thinner/sharper. Plus you'd get even more points for the Awesome Factor 😁
Yeah well good luck creating that
I think he is more focused on making something work crazy instead of aesthetically , he could probably collab with an artist to make a cool weapon , both in style and function
4:18 cant tell if its a coincidence or a nanami cosplay
It isn’t but it looks like it🥷🏿
wouldn’t he be a balloon rn?
video game animators should study this video when animating flaming swords in the future.
The vibe in here is perfect!
