  • These commercials aired on WPWR and WFLD on February 18th, 1986
    1. ITT Technical Institute (I think my life is irrevocably changed after viewing this ad)
    2. US Telecom
    3. TV Guide
    4. DeVry
    5. ITT Technical Institute (You guys had me with the first ad!)
    6. "F Troop" End Credits (Just seeing brief clips of this show reminds me how much I hated it as a kid when it was on Nick at Nite)
    7. Promo for "You're Telling Me"
    8. Illinois State Lottery Windfall
    9. Dianetics by L. Ron Hubbard (Yay Scientology! L. Ron Hubbard died only about three weeks before this aired. Is the volcano on the cover meant to represent the Hawaiian volcanoes that the evil Lord Xenu dumped all of those frozen aliens into?)
    10. Aim
    11. "Latenight 32" Commercial Bumpers (These bumpers are pure, concentrated 1986)
    12. Star Magazine (I really don't want to know any more "surprising secrets" about Bill Cosby)
    13. Life Savers
    14. Nissan Auto Show Specials
    15. Roto-Rooter
    16. Promo for "PM Magazine Special"
    17. Dominick's
    18. Schmerler Ford (The song he's singing is an old show tune popularized by Al Jolson: • Al Jolson - Rock-a-Bye... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock-a-... WHY he's singing it? I have absolutely no idea)
    19. Luvs Baby Pants
    20. Florida Gold Orange Juice
    21. "Latenight 32" Commercial Bumpers
    22. Ford
    23. Bold
    24. Citrus Hill (Amazing jingle that will get your juices flowing)
    25. Lincoln Carpet (Get some ugly brown carpet for your dim-ass living room. The husband looks like he's being held hostage at the end)
    26. Wisk (OMG I love the 8-bit graphics at the end!)
    27. Nestlé Alpine White (Hilarious, it's like one of those famously pretentious Calvin Klein "Obsession" ads but about...a candy bar)
    28. Scott Tissue
    29. Nissan Auto Show Specials
    30. Dairy Queen (Even though there's one around where I live, I haven't been there since the mid 90's. I liked their ice cream and hot dogs as a kid but I doubt they still have that Street Fighter II arcade machine there...)
    31. Promo for "The 1986 International British Recording Industry Awards" (Looks like an extravagant, cocaine fueled night!)
    32. "Latenight 32" Commercial Bumpers
    33. Chicago Health & Racquetball Club (With Rachel McLish)
    34. Meineke
    35. Front Row (Wow, I think this might just top the ridiculousness of that first ITT commercial)
    36. Chicago Bulls Tickets Promo (Watch football players play basketball and something with the "famous chicken": en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Die...)

    When I watch these commercials I think of all the people born in late 1800's to early 1900's in the nursing homes listening to these and they are no longer here. R.I.P People

    8:06 - I love it how the camera cuts out as soon as he starts singing again. It's like, "Okay, time to put grandpa to bed. He's acting weird again..."

      Here's the story:
      knowyourmeme.com/memes/big-bill-hells
      It was the product of a local fake ad contest in Baltimore challenging local agencies to go up against the bigger competition by making the craziest ad parodies they could think of. It was done at a local Baltimore television station and used car company stock footage.

    Thanks to the ITT commercial that opens this video, I hereby proclaim this the single greatest UA-cam channel ever. It is not an opinion, but a scientific fact.

      This is a top notch video, for sure. One of 80sCommercialVault's best.

      Yep, today I was trying to remember which commercials I could recall and all I could recall were brands not a specific ad: Dos Equis, Geico, Progressive. I think I've only recalled the Flex Shield commercials.
      I have got to find the volume you made a comment about the console TVs being as big as sofas. I forgot to leave a reply about them and another piece of furniture. Can't do it now, I have to find the brand that we had.

  • @DanZero77

    I didn't know John Oates made an appearance in the ITT commercial! They just went under not too long ago.
    I hear you on F Troop, I was waiting for Get Smart to come on next around that time on Nick at Nite!
    I loved the "Scientology" disclaimer on the Dianetics ad!
    The lady in the Star magazine ad also did local ads for ShopRite supermarkets in the New York area around this time.
    The music in the Nissan ads was from the "Big Bill Hells" car ad parody from Baltimore!
    The singing Ford guy could have cut 27 seconds off his commercial to make it better.
    AND ANOTHER CHICAGO CARPET STORE PHONE NUMBER JINGLE!
    I'm spent.

    Haa The subtext in the Dianetics commercial was like a disclaimer. I wonder if that was forced. "Hubbard has also written Scientology books, just letting you know, this might be wack."

    • @miketroncin749
      @miketroncin749 7 років тому +2

      I think the reason was that for the most part he wrote science fiction, and they just wanted to be sure that no one confused them with this 'legitimate, factual self help ' book - lol

    • @80sCommercialVault
      @80sCommercialVault  7 років тому +1

      By the 80's the line between his books on Scientology and his science fiction had become extremely blurred. 1982's Battlefield Earth (later made famous by the awful John Travolta film adaption) was the first SF novel he'd written since 1954 and was basically pro-Scientology/anti-psychology propaganda. I suspect if he had lived longer that formula would have continued.

    • @miketroncin749
      @miketroncin749 7 років тому +1

      +80sCommercialVault I read "battle field earth" (a monster of a book at 1000+ pages) and it was rough. Like listening to a meth addict ramble on for a week. Normally, I'd check out the movie, just to compare, but no way. It was one of the few books that As I read the last few pages I stood up, walked across the room and shit-canned the thing and felt violated.

    • @80sCommercialVault
      @80sCommercialVault  7 років тому +1

      I'm not surprised, I heard he was basically a mediocre at best pulp novelist who invented Scientology on a bet/dare. I'd be somewhat curious to check out that book if it wasn't like reading an Ayn Rand novel. The only reason why that book is even well known is because the Church of Scientology bought copies to get it on best seller lists.

    I guess with regards to the Chicago Bulls spot at the end, the only reason Orlando Woolridge got so much attention was that this was the season Michael Jordan was out for most of the season with a broken leg (IIRC)

  • @Countsmegula

    While ITT sounds like it got its music from strumming a Sega Genesis, Front Row just assaults the senses with its gaudy 80s fashion. Kudos.

    • @NLind

      countsmegula That's because the ITT commercial likely used the Yamaha DX-7, which uses FM synthesis, as does the Genesis.

      I've always related the taste of the red lifesaver (cherry) with cold medicines, and therefore prefer the green.
