Nothing better than a $5 fix! Sometimes it pays to run old junk, you can get hard to find parts cheap cause most people don’t want them. Wouldn’t u just shit if a semi full of beers actually showed up for u one day🤣
I understand that those air fan clutches have "come home bolts" that you can bolt the fan clutch together to lock it, so the fan is in all the time. I'm a Kenworth guy but your 359 is fucking sick! Everything about it is to the max!
Hope I didn’t miss u mention it but most of those fan hubs that are air applied spring off have two bolt holes in the “pressure plate” that you can use to lock the fan in if u have an air system issue. It seems most new trucks are using air off spring applied fans so they fail on. Have a good one!
Hi Wayne . Everything goes better with beer ! 🍺 The fact you know all this stuff just blows my mind . Success ! Alright, alright, alright ! Have a nice weekend !

good thing they revisied the way the fan clutch works ......as you may already know now it takes air to release the fan. that was one of the best failsafes created.
A 10 ga wire from the bracket to the body will ensure a good ground. That's one thing I dislike about the Detroit air valve system is it's case ground rather than live ground.. easy enough fix though. @@coloradooilfield5287 Those fans suck at lot of power believe it or not. Might do you well ro install one. Maybe you could adapt a newer setup. I'm not well versed in these systems too much
Hey Wayne, trucks I drove from the 90s through my last new one in 2006 all came with a switch to manually turn on the fan. Earlier may have but I don’t remember. I’m not a big fan of computers but late 90s on when you let of the gas (gas 😀) pedal the fan would come on with the jakes, which was cool. I was told that the fan took about 10 horsepower to run. I definitely noticed a difference in what gear I was in on hills I was familiar with. Usually one gear lower climbing. Have a good weekend, don.
The truck I run used to eat fan clutches which turns out is a relatively common problem on 2005 Macks with the 370 engine. One of the clutches we used prior to a Clutch Masters began to fail but when it was going, it stayed unlocked which is really handy. I wired in an override switch since many of these newer Macks don’t have them. The way yours is set up is super cool. Having a water separator in-line is smart.
Thanks for your time again mate, that was interesting. I don't run trucks but I've been watching your shows and look forward to seeing them. Happy travells.
The newer horton clutches are backwards and require air to unclutch. They are failsafe supposedly. Running that solenoid backwards would let you employ one without changing the logic your truck is wired with. Not that you want to do that, but you can. Love the content!
Great Save Wayne! Beer and 2 Stroke Diesel you can only beat that with the Ghost Pepper and a Enginecompartiment with 2x Deutz TCD 16.0 V8 diesels working on full load. (Ghostpepper has to be eaten to get the effect) Now we know why modern trucks suck... They barely have any gauges sooo you cant see what's happening unless you get your eyes off the road and check the computer on the dash... (JIKES) Greetz from the Netherlands Bjorn

When measuring these small resistances, don't forget to touch the meter leads together and measure the lead resistance then subtract it from the reading in order to get an accurate reading. Sorry I can't help myself as I'm a 35 year maintenance electrician. 🤷♂🤓
Like the video check your fan hub might have a coupleof 1/4 X 20 bolt holes to bolt the hub together if the solenoid fails, nice to see actual air line fittings not the push in fittings on the newer trucks
Cat & Cummins are the same, keep them under 210 and you're still in the upper safe zone, over that and one is flirtin with disaster. Did a ton of these back in the day, Horton was good but the Bendix hubs took more abuse, the Horton's disc would warp. The new stuff is all run thru the ECM. Try wire loom to dress it up after.
seems with the info that came with the solenoid, you could plumb it the other way and flip the electrical signal with a relay and it would still cycle and be switch override, but any electrical circuit failure would turn the fan on which would be useful for the motor, it would lock the fan with the truck powered down as long as it holds air though
Wayne- I had trouble with a truck heating up once. Ended up the friction material was worn-out on the fan clutch and it would slip vs locking up completely. Just thought I'd mention it.
Some fan clutches have a square head bolt with a jam nut on the main hub. Back the jam nut off . Spin the square head bolt down it will lock the fan clutch . Then tighten the jam nut.
