You know what I just realized? The final boss fight with Calus was actually the first time our Guardian has met him in person. Calus bots don’t count.
Yeah, kinda crazy when you really think about it.
ok
First and last.
My mind was blown when it turned out he a bot
And then I went to the back room…
What’s so does special about that my guy
I think that Strand should've been fully unlocked at the beginning of Lightfall and as we progress through the story of Lightfall, we unlock more aspects and fragments of it. That way it doesn't feel completely jarring to use it in the campaign. It also allows for the narrative to focus less on Strand and more on the actual goal.
Also the grind for strand meditations feels unnecessarily steep...
Maybe they would have, if they didn’t need to pad out the campaign as much as possible since it was all filled
@Symbiote Mullet I've seen people complain about the strand meditations. Do you know those darkness repeaters floating in each area? They give you 25 meditations each. Go get them all and you can purchase most of the strand things
I agree, the problem is bungie is over using suspense, and fomo
I think the Lightfall expansion would have been better as a seasonal story and each week introduce us to strand then give us it after the final week of beating Calus
Very happy to see the podcast going on. It seems we are going through one of the toughest times as a community so it’s nice to see a level headed discussion.
I'm a new player I started this game on March 8th and I haven't put it down since. I really enjoyed lightfall also.
What I learned is that that first boss fight when you first met the boss was hard
The obvious connections of Strand to Witch Queen should be more upsetting to people than it appears to be.
Absolutely agree. I've been asking for highest magic ever since I first met them. Bungie finally gets us to the point that it can happen and drops the ball at the finish line.
Thank you! I don't get it honestly, what it means: content was cut from a DLC you paid for and then re-sell it to the players. Most the D2 players are simps 🙄🙄
@@thenetpagan I don't understand why people are so against criticizing the mistakes and missteps bungie makes.
People still playing this game after the GDC presentation is disappointing to see
@@stevengloyd7385 i understand being critical but as critical as people are, (melodramatic) it’s not fun to let ppl know ur opinion of d2 cus if u disagree ur a bungie simp and if u agree the takes that u DO agree with sounds like a crackhead under a dallas overpass rambling
I hope the sixth subclass is Luster. The power that Rhulk and Calus were weilding against us. Same with Caretaker. The Yellow darkness energy and a yellow subclass would be perfect for aesthetic purposes, at least.
I want dark red to be the next color, not yellow. Everything else you said is fine.
It’s probably not going to be called Luster. Look how Stasis and Strand all begin with an S and are followed up bij an a. So I guess the next subclass will follow the same rule?
@@itswickie8545 that's just happenstance, it would still more likely be called resonance, don't know where Luster came from
We could still get Taken powers
@@aidenfanucci9523 The Lore. Also, as far as the color, If you look at the mural in the Vow of the disciple raid, under the umbral sun there is a blue, green, and yellow symbol. In the lore, Rhulk thanks the Witness for granting him is Luster.
They did technically explain the need for strand half hazardly with the suppression field things that took away our abilities. Though the narrative around it blocking light was weird since it still worked on stasis but not on strand both of which are darkness powers.
From what I was reading about it, people seem to think it was originally supposed to be another light power, with the witch queen, but it wasn't fully worked out and moved into this season.
If I recall, it was said that the suppression field things blocked all of our known powers, including stasis. Strand was the only exception because we just discovered it (and there were fonts of power for it all over the place).
Haphazardly.
@@urazz7739 Which is funny because if you replay the mission with the strand subclass equipped you still get suppressed. Too bad they didn't code for that. Would have been a neat detail.
@@silent3killer99 if a guardian uses a light sub-class, they move forward knowing that they will be suppressed. It just becomes the risk. Also, the strand teammate could use their super to destroy he suppression field quicker.
Some nightfalls had all three champion modifiers during a time when we could only go in with two champion mods on. We had to rely on our teammates to get through that content. We rely on teammates for raids too. Allowing the stand teammates to keep their super should not be a question of equlity. If all three members used strand, the suppression field could be skipped entirely, but that's OK. The field was never meant to stop strand so it's ok if it gets rendered useless.
I am 100% on team Savathun, can’t wait for her to come back
ok
My trust in Bungie regarding the story of the franchise has never been more damaged than it has for Lightfall. I think I’ll hang out for Final Shape but that might be it for me unfortunately
I stop caring about the lore and the story when they made a whole DLC recycling a location because of how red changed the feel of the moon 😂😩
Nothing like chilling out on a Tuesday afternoon and listening to this 🙌 Thank you for keeping it going even in Destiny’s low points.
At this point, and I hope I'm wrong, I feel like there will be little in the way of closure. Too many loose ends to cramp up in 3 seasons. Thanks for this podcast. Awesome work.
Making dinner for my family whilst listening. Nice too see you both again.
I listen while driving. You guys give a fantastic sense of peace and tranquility while dealing with traffic. Then i get to work and build a load on DIM. Thank you for your vids!
I really hope we get a Taken subclass for Final Shape or at least something similar
I listen to many of Byf’s videos and podcasts like this while going to sleep… Very relaxing and gets the mind thinking.
11:54 EXACTLY!! Not a single person gave as crap the traveler got bombasticly cut open by the witness, not even misraaks kel who always went on about the great machine etc etc.
Because the cutscenes that bookended Lightfall were originally, together, supposed to be opening cutscene of Final Shape. But they cut it in half and pretended that the whole time we were screwing around on Neptune, humanity, Cabal, and Awoken were waging this massive defensive against the Black Fleet, but as we can see the Witness can just dissemble ships on a whim. None of makes narrative sense.
The Witness is THE best character to me lol
I just loveeee it so much (hence the profile pic). It’s* an amalgamation of multiple entities; so calm, cool, collected and wrathful. And them puppy dawg eyes?! 😊😊
Seeing The Witness get pissed off was pretty cool, that’s it
The witness is an "it" not a them
Mara ikora and zavala say "it" multiple times. Quit projecting your fairy tail political ideology on an "it"
Them refers to several people, the Witness is one person
Facts
@@HotdogStephen but they call themselves “we” everytime they’re on screen…
I said it before somewhere else but I'll say it again after the final shape i would love to see a directors cut of these expansions and how the story could have been
Lightfall came very close to taking me outta the game completely, I'm not a fan of the lore or the campaign. Nezarec unparticular reminded me of Kylo Ren making him almost instantly my least favorite character in destiny, I pretty much wish they kept him as an energy drink to whatever they did to him because I have like -200 respect for Mr. Nezcafé. If not for the vibe I get from Bungie of "We know we didn't do our best here, what's done is done, we'll do better next time," I'd probably have dipped outta here faster than I did with star wars post TLJ. I won't pretend Lightfall was exactly as bad as that film, we at least had a couple of worthwhile characters in Caital and Osiris but yeah. I didn't get much enjoyment outta these past couple of months.
Only thing is they say that every dlc, expansion. We messed up, we promise to do better next time, please trust us and have faith, now praise us for fixing it and give us more money.
@@hey_its_travis Fairish point, but not every dlc, Taken King, Rise of Iron, Forsaken and Witch Queen were all really good. That and at least Bungie seems to want us to continue paying for their content. I've seen more than enough from Lucas Film/Disney to feel much less than welcome paying for their stuff. Scraping the bottom of the barrel I know but it's something. At least Tears of the Kingdom looks good.
One setting that'd really help would be for bows, holding the trigger/button gets very tiring on the hands so it'd be nice to have a click and the bow draws and click to release or similar
When you think of The Nine, just reference His Dark Materials. You can't tell me Bungie didn't read those books and say, hey, Dusk? That's a good idea
Psst….bungie….they are the ones that wrote it
Working on a job site with my ear buds. Love to listen to these!
Listening at work, love these videos and just wanna listen as soon as I can
The simplest way I view why the LF campaign story is agreeably panned compared to WQ, Forsaken and even Taken King is that all of the former had an encompassing plot that had a defined beginning, middle and end that logically fits within the destiny timeline as major story arcs.
LF doesn't. It feels like it abruptly stops at the middle point of a side story adjacent to the actual main plot. In essence, it almost felt like a filler episode for a long anime.
Beating the light fall campaign on legendary difficulty
I listened to this throughout the day, so I was doing a number of things: prepping food (chopping fresh ginger, dicing peppers, cooking rice) for a kung pao beef bowl recipe, time outside with my dogs (one is in poor health and y'all's discussion helped with staying on tasks), and finishing up my achievements on Coffee Talk Episode 2 (chill indie game I've been using to ease up on D2).
I'm currently surviving the apocalypse in Dead Island 2 while listening to this.
Damn i like this Game. First one was funnier with the dev weapons. The Bat that punched the zombies across the map.
Might play it again someday
I think it's time Destiny novels need to become a thing
Always enjoy the lore breakdown and general state of the game discussions. Always like to check em out while I knock out bounties and weekly pinnacles.
1:22:00 Recently ran through the new light intros with a friend, and man some of the copypasta pit of heresy obstacles are kinda absurd lol.
I would say I’m more confused than anything. Confused how things ended up like this. Confused if I am in the right feeling how I do about Lightfall. I honestly have come to regret putting in almost $90 into Lightfall. I never done this with any other expansion before because I thought we would get something worth the price. I was proven wrong and I just… don’t know what else to feel besides disappointed. I didn’t get my money’s worth with Lightfall or Season of Defiance, so is it wrong to feel like I got shafted? Should I trust we’ll get better further down the line this year and with Final Shape? I just don’t know and my wallet can’t keep going into the game blindly. Some of my best gaming moments were in Destiny and I don’t want the game to fail, but am I allowed to call out the flaws for a game I like?
Absolutely speak up, just be respectful in your criticism. You seem level headed. They will never know if people don't express their disappointment.
@@hey_its_travis Yeah, that's the big thing. Don't go insulting people constantly and/or threaten violence.
listening during my hour drive to work 🤙 glad y'all still make content always makes me happy to listen in! :)
Someone is within the traveler. The Gardener is in the Traveler and not the Traveler
After supposedly “killing” Calus, I remember something about Rhulk being supposedly in dormancy. Now idk if this fits in with Calus…who knows because it seems there trying to bring Rhulk back. Same thing is said for Nezarec
I honestly hope they do. Calus deserved better.
I was doing my organic chemistry practice test problems while listening to this.
Listening while workin 🖤
Playing destiny while I listen, thanks for the great content!
Sounding off from the kitchen at work! Great to have some eeeeasy listening during the daily grind. Keep up the good work boys
I listened while sharpening some of my EDC knives (it’s a big hobby) and you’re right. The story is in a weird place, and they dropped the ball on LightFall. I’m really hoping the next season sheds some massive light on what is going on/ the Witness’ motives
Working, always look forward to these creator chats.
I'm on lunch at work and decided to check out this video.
On my work break playing some Iron Banner, listening to the podcast
cheers!
Driving back from work listening to this
OH CRAP I CRASHED
I personally liked the story, the way you get the characters interact with each other, the world building of Neomuna and the action that goes with it. I feel that this was a good set up for the conclusion of the Light and Dark Saga.
They did say that this is not suppose to be a losing like constantly losing but it is a lost.
Glad to see you post more! You were always my top Destiny channel
damn this shit deep, lil homie tipping low and tipping hats to david brubreck
Kind of ironic, but the mod system was actually one of the things that drove me to nuclear burnout. I never had to take buildcrafting seriously until Lightfall came out. One of many factors that caused me to leave Destiny behind
Relaxing and getting ready to grind out the rest of my seasonal challenges. Quality upload, folks.
Love listening to these while playing Destiny🥂
I'm still locked in the fucking Prison of Elders while watching this
Listening at work
I work at a resort so I always listen to podcasts while I work.
Thier voices are buttery smooth 😊
I just watched this vid after coming back to Destiny 2 and I love the lore alongside the campaign and the stories Bungie try to tell and honestly Lightfall felt like it would have worked as a seasonal content thing as yes we did find Neomuna but it seemed more like a mini story of us stumbling onto strand and trying to harness it fully I even had a chuckle at the “training montage”music put on the mission where we actually get a handle on strand before taking on Calus for real but I feel like it should have been a seasonal story and would have had a great reception as a result
Based on what we’ve seen of Darkness resonance abilities, I’m anticipating a lot of armor/defensive capabilities combined with autonomous attack abilities (think Cabal overshield backpacks, Rhulk/Nez/Tormentor armor that breaks when attacking weakpoints, homing missiles like Calus and the Caretaker use). Something that maybe makes you slow but tanky and able to punish targets slowly but steadily as you advance on them.
Theres still the shard of the traveler in the edz l, that could play a part in resurrecting amanda
It’s kinda obvious that Strand was supposed to be in Witch Queen
love listening while drawing :)
I have never played d2 less. If I hadn't already paid for the next season I wouldn't even think of playing it
Laying on my back listening to two very relaxing voices
I'm working while listening. Great chat boiz
I'll say this...Lightfall isn't straight up trash like some are saying but it sure as hell ain't one of the best expansions we got. This is mid as hell, and the main problem is that we're near the end of this Light & Dark saga & STILL we are getting mediocre content.
i was eating ramen for lunch while playing destiny and listening to this 😊
I am organizing my vault while hearing the podcast
Final Fantasy XIV players held a vigil for Stephen Critchlow The VA for Count Edmont de Fortemps from the Heavensward expansion. 1:36:51
Love you guys
I would enjoy some old school style UP videos.
Maybe the third dark subclass will be like nezarec. Blinding ennemies and using the force like in star wars, using shadows.
I’m drawing rn while listening to this 😊
Eating a bagel at 11pm after taking a break from playing minecraft all day. I’m a hardcore trials player😂😂
I can appreciate what they tried to do with making Nimbus like some kinda surfer dude; but I believe instead of trying to do the whole twitter teenager thing, they shoulda went with the Michelangelo from Ninja turtles feel. Or something like that, given the fact that they wanted this to feel like the 80s
I like the Throne podcast especially Destiny podcast while I take a shower and then eat my lunch and then play some destiny because it’s usually on my day off from work
The witness reminds me of the Lord Marshall in Chronicles of Riddick.
Is it significant that tormenters weild void power? They're obviously a darkness enemy that doesn't have a ghost like the hive.
Playing D2 while listening 🥂
I’m cleaning my house at 10pm as I watch/listen.
So essentially nezzy is the destiny Freddy kreuger
Working at my desk job
Not only was the whole “uglier they are, the harder they fall” line insanely cringey, it was also RACIST. Nimbus literally said cabal are ugly… TO A CABAL
Cleaning my desk
They need to captivate us next season, I never ever thought that Lightfall would have been such a bummer with almost zero payoff.
I heard someone say this and its spot on neomuna doesnt and feel like and isnt a city its a shopping mall. They fumbled the feeling of being in a city great colors amazing skybox but super small world
A question.. How come the veil ended up in neptune?
It was always there my guy
hey guys :) listening to the podcast while smashing iron banner :)
Watching at work today, if i wasnt id be at home either in front of the PC or on the couch.
Driving to work
I am currently doing gms as I watch this video 😅. makes it kinda hard but we'll worth it.
I'm working at a Sterile Processing Department while listening to you guys 😂
The thing is with this and lightfall, we have this year to found out what the witness wants with the traveler and why, then also how we will follow him and find out, but what you also need to know is the the final shape is it will not be the end of the story, coz if we all think it will be the next 12 months will be very very boring as what will it be. What di you think about that Idea?
What do you mean? Final shape will be the end of the story. FF did it perfectly fine. They ended with endwalker 6.0 and moved on with 6.1. There’s no way they draw it out for a year after release for the ultimate conclusion.
Listening while I airbrush my new clan shirt😂
Playing Destiny 2 while listening!!
Heavy whiffing, I heard that frudian slip
Lightfall is still just beginning… lets keep that in mind as we have the rest of the year for shit to go down, story-wise that is.
I still see ppl wearing their DSC/Vod/KF contest mode emblems, RON being so easy made thoes embedment even more of a flex to have. Over 20 ppl on my friends list got the RON emblem from contest, before that only about 4 others beside myself had any contest emblems. The emblem is so common, more common that it’s not even on the 1st page of warning rarest emblems.
We needed Strand because Calus continually used Light suppressing technology
Actually it was more than just light surpressing technology, it also suppressed the only offensive dark power we had as well. Strand wasn't part of that because it was just discovered.
Bungie has got to throw the hail Mary to end all hail Mary's with final shape
I originally though I was not gonna do the contest aswell, like when kingsfall came out the 2nd time. but I came 3 hours late to the start, saw that it already has been completed and then completed it in a span of 11 hours, uncluding sleep. This was my first Day 1 Emblem I got and it feels nice finally getting one, but it also feels kinda shallow. I don't mind everyone getting it, I really don't, it's jsut that it was not really a challenge. The first 3 encoutners I didn't even do the mechanic and only at nezarec we started to speedrun as we had 4 runners. It was way to easy for 48 hours...
Waiting for Diablo 4 to release I’m playing tiny Tina’s wonderland then once when season 21 launches I’ll play that for a little bit
Lightfall had one of the most buggy seasons ever. Audio bugs, comp quiter penalty, all the error codes and servers crashes. They broke so much stuff.
I just started Destiny 2 in March, and I'd be lying to say that I wasn't spurred to play it because of Lance Reddick's death. I played through Witch Queen first thanks to a gifted expansion from a close friend, followed by Lightfall, and now more recently Beyond Light. If it wasn't for my friend's enthusiastic love for the game and the history, I would have had no idea what was going on in Lightfall. I think that Strand would have been better suited to be introduced in the Witch Queen expansion, even if it was just a tease of the powers during Savathun's final boss fight. I think then the true intro to strand during Lightfall would have made more sense, story wise, anyways. Again, I'm new, I'm still catching up on everything that's happened. I'm still looking up videos of "The Complete History of Destiny" so that all the info my friend has given me solidifies itself in my head. There's so much from both games that I need to keep in mind going forward. I'm looking ahead to the rest of Lightfall and The Final Shape, I think there's some real growth we could see with Caital and Calus and Cameo and if they do a patch where they focus on this, that would be amazing.
I'm only about 20 minutes into the video, but I agree with you on the fact that I don't think that any dev team goes out of their way to make a bad game. I don't think that any fledgling or experienced dev doesn't want to be excited and to put no passion into their work. They should be passionate and excited about what they're working on, and they should be looking forward to showing off their work to the audience the game they're working on has accrued. I don't blame the devs, or even the writing teams, for the cuts and refabrications that have been made because of restructuring of the narrative. The blame sits at those higher up.
E: Oh, and to answer your initial question, I'm listening to this while I'm working.
