Most of this piece wasn’t actually written by mozart. I believe only the first couple phrases were his writing; the rest was later finished by another composer
All the flavour is still there. I'm sure it will remain constant no matter how simplistic the arrangement. Thank you for playing this version. We are all lucky that such a talent as yours plays for us with such sincerity.
Beautiful playing. I thank you for sharing the score, especially with the addition of your notations. As a relatively new player, I find that watching you play the piece whilst reading the score at the same time is most instructional
Just sat at my piano and played that along with you Paul! I absolutely adore this piece of music. Couldn’t process the next chord quick enough when the sheet music changed each time, so had to guess, often got the harmony wrong. Wish I could play better by ear, but I’m very much a reader. Much love to you and your lovely family 😀❤️🎶xx
@@thomasherzog86 In reality, the only pieces completed by Mozart were the Introitus and the Kyrie. Anyway he left some notes regarding the next pieces, on which Sussmayr based the composition.
Hi Paul. I just listened to your performances of the Liszt and Thalberg transcriptions! This is one of my favorite works of all time and I enjoyed your multiple posts showing how different the transcriptions really are. This is a very simple transcription and nice to see the notes on the screen and your various corrections. How nice of you to provide this to a pianist may want to play it without as much of a challenge, but still preserve the integrity of the music. Thanks again for your mastery, artistry, and the emotion you put into your performances!!! ~Jackie
Top-bar errors in corrected transcript by Paul Barton. In bar 11, a should be a-flat. In bar 18, first a should be a-flat. In bar 26, top c should be c-sharp. Otherwise, it is fine and I thank Paul for putting this up.
A really nice arrangement that's not too difficult (for me!) to play. Thank you Paul for putting this on-line with the PDF of the score available as well.
Thank you for the interpretation of this beautiful piece! And also the free music sheet, that helps a lot. Hope you and your family are staying safe! Lots of love, Xx
While I find this arrangement very nice and easy to follow, I’m not a fan of that edit you made in the 14th measure. I understand how it imparts rhythmic continuity across the phrase, however, it also masks the dramatic impact of that particular climactic moment. In the choral arrangements we all know well, this is the moment where the sopranos, having reaching their highest pitch and their loudest volume, are suddenly replaced as the leading voices by the bass and tenor sections at a much softer volume. In the original choral arrangement, there is a very particular emotional dynamic created by the suddenness of that shift, similar to a collapsing parachute or a sail losing its wind. It is perhaps the best part of the work, which in this case is glazed over by this artistic choice.
Beautiful playing. Even though it may be an easier arrangement, the simplicity of this transcription really lets the melody shine through. I appreciate the fact that you took the time to correct and annotate the score too, I'm thinking of recording this one myself.
Thank you very much Paul for that lovely rendering of Mozart's "Lacrymosa". Also for the score, which I have just printed, which you have carefully annotated and corrected. I shall think of you and your other videos when I play it. Unfortunately, I have no elephant to accompany me ! All the very best.
Я бы очень хотел вырозить свои благодарность за Ваш труд и талант. Мне очень нравиться фортепиано, однако далеко не все игроки на ф-но меня как то устраивают. Ваша игра мне очень нравиться, спасбио Вам большое!
Thank you for correcting and posting this, really appreciate your hard work, maestro. Finally I can learn this beautiful piece. Respectfully, at 2:48 I think you played the last 2 chords of the bar wrong. Also, at 2:57 shouldn’t there be another 4-note chord instead of the pause? If you would add one there, which 4 notes would it be? Thank you again!
Thank you so much for the 'easy' pdf. Loved this work for years. Excited to try it at home though at best I'll be able to fumble my way through it. But you have inspired me to keep practicing. Thanks again.
There's something about the recording that's not right. Buzzing sound around the more intense passages. The revealed harmony is really astounding and here he is near his end. Best
I had just learned this piece using Paul's annotated sheet music, when I began watching Part 5 of "La casa de Papel" (Money Heist) on Netflix- and heard it there in the 1st episode. It's profoundly beautiful, melancholy and moving music.

Hi Paul have you ever played on a clavier/ harpsicord just wondering,,,,, piano music is so awesome! i love what you do thank you for sharng your talents :)
Thank you very much for the score and keyboard view... After having a look at this score, I think I have a clue to explain why Mozart did pass away at bar 8... My explanation: have a look at last chord of bar 7: Fm# 7/5d (Mozart saw the Devil ;-)
Of course Mozart's pupil saw the "Devil" as well... He used this "Devil" all along his part of piece so as to keep on going with the initial "tension" that the Master initiated in bar 7 before to die in bar 8. For me, this is probably a major key that makes this piece sound so perfect as if only composed by Mozart. So why Did the pupil turn the global darkness of the piece into the final light of D major ? Either Mozart's pupil was a big fan of Bach, Or maybe that he had a philosophic approach of his loss of the Master and thought that: When a candle is blown out, then comes the pain (of darkness) but when the pain disapears then remains the memory of the light...
I prefer Thalberg's interpretation of Lacrimosa. It seems to be more funereal than Liszt's transcription. Liszt's transcription is kinda romantic:) Thank you for lesson!
Seeing/hearing it played while reading the sheet music makes me appreciate Mozart’s innovative harmonic progression even more.

Mozart only wrote the first 8 measures: the remainder was composed by his pupil Franz Sussmayr after Mozart's death.
No, this is the last piece written by Mozart, all the rest of The requiem from this one forward is a reconstruction.
