I remember Schell from the movie 'Black Hole'. Great movie. This was one of the best Cavett interview I have seen. The back and forth between the two was tremendous.
He’s an incredible actor. I can’t imagine any other actor that would’ve gotten the Oscar over Spencer Tracey and Richard Widmark and he got the Oscar playing a German attorney who defended the Nazis it’s almost an impossible feat. I also love his performance in Topkapi. Underrated.
I’ve watched Judgement at Nuremberg so many times & one of the biggest reason is because of this great man..I adored him as an actor & what a gorgeous man! 😂
He was so amazing in this movie. He was also outstanding in other films like Return from the Ashes (available on UA-cam, check it out), Counterpoint or The Man in the Glass Booth.
Oh wow, i just found this. Never heard of Max before. This has got to be one of the funniest interviews I've seen. As a woman in 2020 this was just so hilariously politically incorrect. Cavett is just the cutest guy, he's so innocently tongue in cheek.
Having lived in France for 3.5 years, I can say, ... French women are absolutely beautiful. Not sure why he states a French woman would not want to hear she looks like a French woman.
Schell was very witty. He nicely controlled the interview and this isn't easy with a clever guy like Dick. In the end Maximilian gone a bit crazy if I remember correctly.
Maximilian Schell was indeed very handsome, intelligent and dignified. Traits that very few men had or ever will have. He took his acting parts very seriously and it showed. He doesn't look like any of these men that have been mentioned. He is one of a kind. As for the rumors about his daughter and niece, I have NEVER heard anything like that until mentioned in the comments. I do not believe that for a second. Stop spreading ugly rumors. Do not speak ill of the dead.

@Georg Andexler Andexler Ah, because most of us don't trust women as a rule. They have more power than they realize, and abuse it like most humans. You're welcome. Even I understand that and I'm wondering why it wasn't so obvious to you.
In the way Schell means it, its not maternal. For him that Coming from a Young and pretty woman, Its just Patting a dog Who starts moving his tail and smiling cause he thinks he has the aproval of his máster.
“Exquisite actor.” I’ve never hear people an actor referred to as exquisite. As for high-cultured, you might perhaps want to read your history. After all, the Germanic people, the Huns, were considered barbarians for much of their history. And the other superlatives ... goodness me. I like and admire Germans, Austrians and even Swiss-Germans, but you’ve gone overboard here. Lol
@@davidripley1437 I think he's a very subtle man, very cultured and philosophical. Maybe that makes him come accross as eccentric or weird but I think it's part of his charm. He doesn't sound the same in German.

Of course most women liked to be conquered. No need to use the inverted commas. There's something called metaphor. It's a good thing and it enriched our language. Now women like to grow hair in their armpits, literally, not metaphorically…
He should have elaborated on the term, 'conquered'. Women want to feel protected by someone masculine, if that's what he means. I know for a fact that he was....?....how should I say......?.......women had a right to be attracted to him........

He was well into his 40s in this interview and still very handsome. Anyone who looks that good in their 40s/50s has "aged well" in my books. But you're right, he looked almost unrecognisable in his later years, but that's not unusual.
In his later years he was 83 so of course he changed. But in his autobiography Der Rebell, he talks in depth about falling seriously ill in 1986 during the filming of Peter the Great in Moscow (heart attack, serious diabetes) so he apparently had many health issues.
I have nothing against the other celebs that were on this show but is this channel ever going to show the Dick Cavett shows where he interviews Jackie Gleason or Art Carney? How about any Honeymooners actors that were part of the main cast? These are rare much like all the other Dick Cavett interviews

Max was such a charismatic actor, and clearly very sharp too.

One of the most charming interviews I’ve seen with Cavett.
I was very lucky to meet him in person, one of the kind, I adore him!

Maximilian Schell was a big stud.
He's a cross between Daniel Day Lewis and Jon Hamm.
Haha lots of Daniel Day Lewis

He was much more handsome than those 2.
That explains why I am attracted to all three of them

Wow, Max Schell was a devastatingly handsome man. Charming, smart and hugely talented too.
Don't judge a book by its cover. He sexually abused his daughter and his 14 year old niece.
I loved how he turned the questions around ❤ he is so lovable...America this is what charisma looks like.

This was so great in the most unexpected way!

Mr. Cavett had no idea how to cope with Mr. Schell. He just flailed about.
But have you ever seen such composed flailage.
That’s your opinion. Not sure how you arrived there, as they just seemed to be having fun with each other.
