Those were the days! This episode is hilarious with the running in and out, back and forth with the food. Such clever timing made this true comedy......nothing comes close to this good performance since. Only Joan could carry out such a difficult scene.
The segment where Joan does the television commercial was recreated years later on the Danny Thomas Show, when Kathy did the same routine of scrubbing the floor while the more glamorous actress used the sponsor's mop and got all the praise. I was therefore interested to read the contributor's comment that Danny Thomas delivered the same line about "Uncle Charlie" that Joan delivered in this episode. Another episode of i Married Joan showed her accidentally inflating a rubber life raft, a situation used years later on the Dick Van Dyke show, the one where Laura inflates a life raft in the living room and then tries to hide it from Rob. These recycled plots are only now coming to light, as these older series such as I Married Joan are enjoying a revival on UA-cam.
Actually, it was the same writer using another name who used the rubber raft bit on the Dick Van Dyke show. He stole from himself! This bit was also used in The Patty Duke show, I think the episode is "the great outdoors." Patty's in a pup tent when they are "camping out" in the backyard and the raft self-inflates inside the tent.
@@victorialouden1912As I recall Joan died from a heart attack. Later, her daughter who was on the show as a neighbor died in a fire with her children. It was a very tragic accident. As I recall it was in their house in Palm Springs.
I’m never gonna be able to find a woman who’d be willing to lay down on a nice Sunday night Enjoying shows like this. Instead I do it alone And think of a simpler time.
I was literally just thinking that if I got married, when I'm old enough (which won't be for a while, I'll tell ya lol) I'd have to watch this alone because no one else would get a laugh out of it but me
@@HTPLOUD No. But, I do, and in the end that's all that matters! I can get a nice cat after the Navy (if I do make it in!) and watch with my cat. Not hard to please this little girl lol
It's my opinion, too. Lucy was an actress who PLAYED a comedy role, therefore, so many of her episodes come off as forced, and frankly, annoying, and that crying bit gets old fast. Joan was a comedienne, and as such, her timing, reactions and physical comedy were excellent. I found it astounding to learn that each episode was filmed in one day.
@@garymattscheck9066 And frankly, deservedly so. Joan was more like a genuine Vaudeville-type player - and an excellent one, whereas Lucille was an actress who played comedy very well. Lucy HAD to have a good script.
I used to watch "I Married Joan" all the time. I particularly remember the episode when she attended a reunion of her high school friends and thought that she would impress them by letting them know that she had "married a judge!" The joke was that all her friends had become lawyers, and doctors, and actresses etc. thus diminishing Joan's "accomplishment" considerably.
She knew the secret of beeing really funny! Never overact! And the perfect rythm. Lucy had rythm but was mostly overacting. Lucy s inspiration was the clown, Joan was a white clown. Carol was a mixture of both Joan and Lucy and was more of an allround talent....
This my favorite comedy show of all time...
Love, love, love the old commercials!!!
Joan Davis was truly the queen of comedy. It's too b
ad she is largely forgotten today.
I've never heard anyone talk about her except one... I'm here, because I was watching the Lucy Show and someone said if I like that I'd like this
Love those vintage GE commercials! They made things to last in those days. Not like the Made In China junk like they have today.
The commercials here are a jewel.
Mrs. McGruder was played by the actress who played the second Gladys Kravitz on Bewitched, Sandra Gould! I certainly can recognize The Voice!
And that chipmunk face!
She's actually not bad looking here.

This episode had me laughing so hard. I was in tears watching Joan go from room to room trying to please both guest at the same time. AWESOME!!
Mahthias Fountain Thank you for your kind comments. We're so happy so liked it.
I’d rather watch these old shows. So much better than anything they make today.
Thank you for showing these. Love them. 💖
She was great; so was Lucy. 2 different actresses with different things to offer.
Joan's shows were way funnier and better than Lucy's shows.
Great Episode 😂😂 Thank You For Sharing😄

Fun fun fun! Thank you. She used to live around the street from my aunt in Palm Springs. Loved that old neighborhood.
berrygoodstuff didn't her daughter die in that house??
The daughter, Joan's Mother and grandchildren all died in that house fire almost two and a half years after Joan. Tragic!

Sheldon Leonard is Mr. Magruder, the famous producer aka Sydney Sheldon.

Still remember many of the lyrics to the intro song......can't believe first episode was the yr. I was born! We lead more then one life
"Go be an actress" Oh what Lucy would have given to hear Ricky say that to her !
Apparently the honeymoon car shown in the beginning is a 1952 Nash Rambler convertible!
I loved this show growing up and it always made me laugh. I personally thought Lucille Ball couldn't hold a candle to her.
Funny you compare her to Lucy...
oh, a lot of folks did back then
@@scotnick59 she is funnier than lucy😁.
Lucy was too professional. Joan has less friction.
Joan and Lucy had different energies.
Omgoodness 😂 Joan doing the cleaning commercial 🤣
I barely remember her but I am starting to. That song rings a bell.
0:22 What's Joan saying here?? I like it up the back passage??
Up unto the 70s, many housewives DID stay home and take care of things. MORE jobs for men then (smile)
🔵THE PLATES AND CUPS WERE CLEAN BEFORE HE PUT THEM IN THE DISHWASHER.🔴
99% of the people were more down to earth ,not like today we see couples going thru one separation after another
What is the last line of the theme song? Can not make out the words.
To each his own, Can't deny that's why I Married Joan. Thanks for watching!

I love this show but I must say that Thurston definitely upgraded with Lovey!

She reminds me of olive oil in the popeye cartoon.

What's a Housewife?
what a great show, much better than I love lucy
Thanks for your kind words!
I Love Lucy had better writers, but Joan Davis was every bit as great a talent as Lucille Ball and was
an even better physical comedian.
🤣🤣

123pailin Thanks so much for your kind comments. The next episode up, "Lost Check," will showcase more of Joan's physical skills...up soon!
I was never a big Lucy fan. But Joan is a natural.
Joan was a bit of a nut, but not as zany as Lucy.
Holy crow, the unabashed sexism at the start...gee whiz...ouch. Does it get subversive later on?
