compared to things like "The Other Boleyn Girl" or "The Spanish Princess" or "Wolf Hall" this show is a masterpiece. because although there are inaccuracies, but are much smaller compared to the grand view and at least key events and important figures are portrayed and showed with respect
Whoaaa I had no idea the Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Natalie Dormer had no chemistry.. cuz their characters Anne and Henry is so spot on especially in contract with their characters in The Other Boleyn Girl … 😮
right? The forest sex scene at the end of Season 1 and the hate-sex scene shortly before her fall in Season 2, both live completely rent-free in my head. 😅😅😅
Thank you for reviewing this series. I enjoyed the series and your reviews as well. Something that I have wondered....how could Anne have thought that Henry would divorce his wife? In the series, the comment is made that the pope allowed for divorces all the time. King John is the only king that I can think of that received a divorce. How many other divorces occurred?
Divorces were not common you’re right and they’re not even divorces as such but annulments.. but it did happen for some noble families too and Henry really believed he had a strong claim with his brother and the fact that he was in good favours of the pope at the time…
I really like your point about the depiction of Henrat as being the master and not the puppet (although they weren't 100% consistent with it, as you have explained), because there are many media pieces that try to absolve him of his crimes and portray him as a guileless monarch "led astray by the evil people surrounding him". This is especially relevant when it comes to Catherine and Anne. People should stop looking at the matter as woman 1 vs. woman 2 and focus their attention on the real culprit because both wives and mistresses were victims in one way or the other. I absolutely love the scenes you chose to discuss! The one between Thomas Wolsey and Thomas More was top notch 👌🏼Sam Neil and Jeremy Northam were great in their respective parts. All the scenes between Catherine and Anne were 🔥Maria Doyle Kennedy was amazing as CoA and my obsession with brilliant Natalie Dormer as AB is no secret ❤❤ Also that scene with Francis I was just hilarious 🤣🤣 "How can I make peace with that piece of 💩?!" *smiles genially* LOL 🤣 As always, thanks for another great video 💛 I'm really looking forward to your reviews of season 2!
I can't thank you enough for these videos! I absolutely love the show and love learning more about what was accurate and what wasn't. I am so very happy that you are breaking down each episode thank you 💖
The lack of attraction/connection between Natalie and Johnathon was quite surprising when I heard it because I thought they seemed great together, but that's acting I guess. At some point I have to go back and watch the show again, especially since I was in my late teens when it came out and with how much more I've learned since then. One of my favorite parts in Eric Ives' book was page 129 or another that talked about how Henry had thoughts of him being the head of the Church in England and him having supreme power answerable only to God, precedes Anne. I could go on about what I've read so far, I'd recommend the book to anyone who has an interest in Anne, especially after watching The Tudors. Can't wait for when you review season two.
So surprising indeed! Ives’s biography is a must-read! I hope my book on her will also do her justice! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻😊 My review of the series 2 part 1 is coming this Sunday! 😊😊😊
Really enjoyed part 2 review as well! Yes, I did like a lot of the representations of various historical figures in this show. The one bizarre feature of this show was Thomas Tallis’ girlfriend’s ghost visiting her sister and Tallis after she passed away from the swearing sickness. None of that made any sense. 🤨 In any case, I agree that it must have been really odd for Anne to have served Catherine after Henry showed interest in Anne. Awkward! Thanks for this great video, Dr. Paranque!
That was fantastic mam really loved your reactions this series is not just entertaining but also educating for me i have learned lots of new thing from this and also love the fact that you mentioned that Henery 8th was the real master mind behind all this and that he was using queen anne bolyen more then she was using him keep up the good work🙏❤
My least favourite thing about S1 is Charles Brandon marrying Margaret Tudor, by doing this they more or less wiped out the Stuarts! 😂 But then its later contradicted when the King of Scotland is referred to as Henry's nephew and Margaret is never mentioned again after S1.
True Mary Queen of Scots is also named in the last season. I think they made up an unamed extra sister. They must know who ended up inheriting the trone😆
I should probably try to give this another chance: I got about 20 minutes into the first episode, and, if I remember, something about the way they were portraying Henry and the political situation got me very angry and I turned it off. FYI, as I recall from Garrett Mattingly's work and others, Henry fled as far and as fast as he could when Anne contracted the sweating sickness. Anne and Catherine were both very strong, extremely intelligent women, and it's a pity that the situation threw them against each other, when, in another time and place, they would have found a lot of common ground and positive appreciation for each other.
Loving your reviews of this series... now I'm tempted to watch it, although I have avoided it til now because I'm always so annoyed and disappointed with all the historical inaccuracies in these. Why can't they just stick to the facts, when sometimes the actual story was more interesting and dramatic than any fiction? 😉
Wonderful video. Thank you, Elle, for your comments on the scenes. The Tudors is one of my favorite, if not my favorite series. Being an Anne Boleyn fanatic, if I can say that, I was obsessed with this series. I have one question though. Personally, I found the conversations between Kathrine and Anne a bit too much. As far as I read, there was no such a tone between the 2 women. In fact, I found that Kathrine always showed nothing but kindness towards Anne. What do you think on this? I would love to hear your opinion.
Thanks for your kind comment. I think I it’s complex. I’m not sure Catherine was particularly kind to Anne but she also had no reason to be… it must have felt like a big betrayal to be replaced by one of her ladies in waiting…
Loved this series...but got to say if your gunna mix so much of you the critic in it and selling your book ..Wouldn't it be better if you washed and brushed your hair
Love the Tudors, probably the best series ever created about the era. Thank you, Elle. another great video 😊
I think it did a great job too (obviously lots of things wrong there too but very good too!) thanks so much for watching, Jon!

Thank you so much for being here and so supportive of the channel!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I wondered if maybe they had the ghost of T. Tallis' girlfriend's twin hanging around so they could keep both actresses employed.
Really amazing review, Estelle! Can't wait for your review on the season 2! Let's go! :)
Thanks so much, Harry!! Next history police video is on 20th of August! 😊😊😊🙏🏻
@@ElleHistory Amazing!! So looking forward to it, Estelle!!! :)))))
Catherine’s mic-drop moment at Blackfriar’s-legendary 👏👏👏
I love how throughout these reactions you will watch these heartbreaking scenes with the BIGGEST smile on your face ahahahaaha

There are lots of problems with the show but also I want to show the viewers the good parts because there are some that need to be acknowledged! 😊🙏🏻

Imo both of Anne and Henry are narcissists. The dad too. Anne was not a sociopath though. She destroyed Wolsey and was pretty mean to her sister too.
I did NOT like "The Tudors". Am I allowed to post this?
haha totally!
@@ElleHistory Thank you!
Bit late to the party - this series was screened years ago.
Haha yes… the show was years ago, my love for the Tudors and anything related to it is forever :)
