Oh, thank you!!! Sharing her quits with my stitching family gives me pleasure. She found so much joy in patterns, fabric, needle and thread just like we do and it gave her many years of pleasure. Now I can share that pleasure I have with you!!

What a treasure to have quilts made by your Mom....they are beautiful and I appreciate 30's fabrics. One time I found a wonderful array of original pieces of fabrics and bought them. I decided to cut each piece in half and share with my best friend and quilting buddy. She passed away from ovarian cancer and her hubby chose to sell all of her quilting supplies, so I wasn't able to get those other halves to make a quilt with; but I do have the memory of the joy when I gave them to her....she was so appreciative. I miss her so much; but cherish all the memories. We were friends for over 40 yrs. but I wasn't able to obtain one of her quilts, even a mini after she left us. Thank you for reminding me to find joy nevertheless....I needed that.

That must have been very hard. To loose her after such a long friendship and not be able to have something tangable from her. But, you are so wise to choose joy and keep moving forward with the sweetness of her memory and the decision to not be bitter. I know it must be hard, but so much better for you now. It honors her memory as well, my friend!

Bonnie, I am so thankful I found you. You are a breath of fresh air in the stitching community... along with Shanda in Idaho and Joy in south Texas. I love your devotional and faith. And your stories of your mom are so sweet and tender. My mom is 91 and in memory care just 10 minutes from me. However, due to COVID I have only been able to see her once since all this stated. She does not understand what is going on. We are fortunate that she still knows who we are and her personality has softened greatly and she is a sweeter version of herself. She was never a quilter but she did make most of my clothes all the way through 6th grade. Her mom had made a living as a seamstress. So thank you so much for sharing your journey. You have such sweet memories 🥰

Thank you for your lovely encouragement!! I am glad I can bring hope and happiness to this sweet stitching community. I value it as well. I think it is such a sad thing that the aging are kept from those they love. How wonderful that her sweetness has deepened as she ages. That is such a blessing. I pray you can be with her soon and hold her hand and give her lovely hugs.

Really LOVED your mother's quilts - every one of them. And it was so nice to hear how much they mean to you❤️. I just learned how to quilt at age 70 and my only daughter hates quilts. I think she feels like they are 'country' (which she just doesn't like at all). I'm hoping that she might one day treasure some of my quilts. That would be a blessing.

    • @logcabinstitcher7274

Oh, thank you for sharing that! It’s funny, I was the first one to quilt at 18 and then stopped for decades, then back into it after Mom and my Sister’s inspiring quilts. Hopefully your daughter will treasure them because they are from the work of YOUR hands and have them to hold and snuggle. But, if not you can choose some special friends to ask her to pass them along to. I have already talked to my sons about giving the quilts they don’t want to MY FRIENDS.... which reminds me....I need to make that list and add it to our paperwork. Congratulations on learning to quilt at this special stage of your life.

@@logcabinstitcher7274 Thank you! I am trying to find some type of modern quilt pattern that she might like (I don't have a modern bone in my body so it's tough). I just gave a quilt to my sister who does no hand work what-so-ever. She was thrilled and I feel like since it's in the family I can still enjoy it as well. Love your quilting style and am hoping to start cross stitching soon as well. Starting seems to be the hardest part of any project😬. Love appliqué and embroidery mixed with quilts - so fun to see all of these!!! Also enjoy your devotions! Have a blessed day❤️.

Hi Bonnie! Your mom's quilts are beautiful and I love hearing your stories associated with them. I am so happy that you have those memories to help you through. I love your verbal blessings and words of affirmation at special occasions in your family and am going to approach my mom about starting to do this when we are making our fresh start in Texas and approach my daughter and son-in-law with starting a new tradition. I am bound and determined to make this Christmas a much happier occasion than the last 4-5 years have been when I have felt robbed of the joy by my soon to be ex husband. Thank you so much for sharing.

After my husband and I spent all that time working on our relationship, we added in many new things. You are going it with your daughter and her family and you can certainly create a better future. It's never, never, too late!! Be bold and brave and ask God for His wisdom to make beautiful new traditions!

Well, first of all, Riley reminds me of my Paisley Grace even more now! She is part chihuahua, part Jack Russell, maybe some Corgi, a rescue puppy also. Her very favorite activity is giving kisses! Riley's kisses for you at the beginning of the video definitely reminded me of my fur baby! Your Mother's quilts are such priceless treasures! How wonderful and beautiful!!! I am sure your niece will treasure the special gift from you and your Mom! It is very generous for you to pass it on to her. Thank you so much for sharing your stories!

Bonnie I have enjoyed all your videos. I don't do instagram. My mum died when I was 20 but I still have some of her embroidered tray and small tablecloths which I treasure as well as hand embroidered tablecloths given by her friends when I married in '75. Lovely to see how you treasure your memories and beautiful legacy quilts from your mum. Through the years - and 12 home moves - I've tried many forms of classic embroidery and quilting but unlike many I'm master of none due to giving some and not finishing many (I agree WIPs so much more positive than UFOS! ) so finding you is a joy plus your end words of hope. Thanks to Anna Roadies I'm now trying wool applique but UK isn't as ahead as US re: wool supplies and especially now I try to give our suppliers my orders to help their business and keep costs down. Our church opened recently but we have to book a seat and I am going again on 4th. Blessings to you and your family.

I love this video. I can relate to so many of your memories, especially the rag quilt being a "cuddle quilt". I knitted a small lap blanket for my mom that she absolutely loved. After she passed I got it back and it is now my cuddle quilt. Every night as I hold it to go to sleep, I feel like I am getting a hug from my mom. All of the homemade things that I thought were homely in my 20's are such special treasures for me now. I wish I hadn't gotten rid of some of them but I still have some, too. Thank you for sharing your stories and your heart about your quilts and your mom. I am enjoying your quilting and cross stitching videos. Thank you!!!!

I love that you also have a cuddle quilt to remember your Mom and still feel her arms around you! October 4th will mark the day I told Mom goodby for the last time. I had such a visit with her though. It was good, but hard. I am so glad I dropped everything and headed out there the day my Dad said it was time to come.

May I suggest scanning in the pages of the journal for each quilt and printing them onto fabric to stitch to the back of the quilt referenced. That way the history will be preserved with the quilt for future generations. I have a collections of antique quilts that I wish I could know more about in the quilter's own words. Beautifully inspiring!

Bonnie - your Mom’s quilts are treasures! I wish quilting and needlework were something I shared with my Mom. I found them on my own although I had great examples in my life. My great grandma, who I knew, quilted and embroidered and I was interested in both. I had a dear older Sunday School Teacher who took the time to teach me simple embroidery stitches - I can still hear her voice telling me that the back should look as neat as the front lol. I have quilts from 2 different great grandmothers that are in rough shape but I love and treasure. Nice visiting with you again! Blessings from Nebraska!

I also have several old family quilts that are a bit of a mess, but I have them folded so the best parts show. Reminds me to share those in future videos. So much to share!!! Thanks for watching and I just love it that you're from Nebraska, yet you can join me in my Sewing Room when I'm telling my stories. Beautiful!

You are so wonderful, I feel like I’m listening to a motivational speaker rather than a flosstuber. I loved the stories about your mom’s special quilt. I hope my girls feel the same way about the quilts and stitching I’ve made for them. Your mom’s secret compartment reminded me of the notes I write to my girls on the back of the frames of stitched pieces I’ve made for them. Especially at Christmas, I cry every year when I get them out and wonder how much this will mean to them someday when I am gone. I treasure my love of needlework and the legacy I am leaving to my girls.
If you loved the MItford Series you need to read The Redemption Series by Karen Kingsbury, she’s another fabulous Christian Fiction writer.

Thank you for sharing your story. As I looked at the quilt behind you it reminded me of a quilt top that my Mother and my grandmother embroidered so many years ago. It was the 48 states with the state flower on each block. I still have the quilt it is thin and faded but knowing that their figures worked diligently on each square. So this quilt goes back to 1950's, because grandma passed away in her 60's due to a terrible cancer. I believe I was around 11 years old. I am now 2 weeks short of 72. Both of these ladies taught me much and happily covering God's table with delicious meals as my grandsons and granddaughter say. God Bless .
