I've been using their radar taillight for a while now, and have been VERY happy with it. It's a lot cheaper than the Garmin radar, and works just as well - at least when riding side-by-side with someone who has the Garmin.
I've heard criticism of the Magene radar so it's good to hear your feedback. Watch out for the mount, someone else lost their radar when it fell off. Maybe get a lanyard or something.
@@waisinglee1509 I've been using the included mount and haven't had any issues. Even over singletrack, the mount holds it tight. The only time I had issues is when I mounted it sideways. It would pop off then. As long as it's vertical, the mount seems to work fine.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Alan! Do you know if it can be trickle charged? That is an ideal feature for ultraendurance cyclists, like me, who often run a dynamo hub to keep things charged up.
Good question! I’m not sure- I always use my dynamo to charge cache batteries and then use the batteries to charge head unit, phone, etc - so I haven’t plugged directly into my klite box
Not be be pedantic but by trickle charge you mean on dyno charge -while C606 in use- ? I want this feature too! Can it be done ? There are loses charging a cache battery first.
Nice piece of equipment for the price! I just got into smart computers and I'm loving them. Wish I would have jumped on the bandwagon sooner. Thanks for the review!
I don’t have their bike computer, but I do have their L508 radar tail light, and the P505 base power meter with PES crank (i.e. Shimano compatible). I am very pleased with both. The tail light is great. But the power meter is pretty much the cheapest way to get a decent power meter, nearly half the cost of anything else, so I’m well pleased with that one. Probably the nearest price competitor would be the Assioma single sided power meter pedals, especially on the Shimano side, where if you don’t want to run pedal-based power meters, you’ve got the option of 4iiii or Shimano, at multiples of the price the Magene offers (plus the Shimano is notoriously inaccurate). I use these with a Wahoo ELEMNT Roam v2, via Ant+, never an issue. The power meter also pairs via bluetooth to my Apple Watch.
I started using Magene speed and cadence sensors around 10 years ago. Now I use their radar rear light which works really well. If I didn't already love my (expensive!) Wahoo Roam, I would certainly consider this computer instead! Didn't know that they made trainers too!
Timely.. have been looking to get a computer- currently rely on iOS apps and fenix 3 watch. Was leaning 840 solar, but a buck-fifty-nine speaks loudly. Great channel
Hey Al (or anyone who has a C606)! This thing looks really good. I've never really used turn by turn navigation. Can you just load a GPX file, turn the navigation off completely, and just follow the blue line? So you can get rid of the annoying reroute stuff that you mentioned in the video. Thanks!
Hey Alan, Are you going to do an update to this review at some point? Are you still using this Computer? Getting ready to replace my Wahoo and I'm not sure I want to shell out Garmin or Wahoo cash again.
I am still using it, to track day to day rides- no issues. For bikepacking, following a track, etc - I use my Garmin. Prob won’t do another video since not much extra to add to the first… ride on!!
I like this bike computer but the battery performance on my unit sucks. It went from 95% to 70% in about 4 hours. I was only recording a ride for about 45 minutes, the rest of the time it was idle. I have all the power management setting set to extend battery life. I’ve only had the unit for about a month so I’ll keep tracking this to see if this is persists.
@@DirtyTeethMTB Just checked it this morning after 12 hours with power on. It went from fully charged to 15%. That sure doesn’t seem right. My other beef is support is only available by email and it takes several days to get a response. Currently they appear to be on a 6 day holiday and aren’t responding.🤔
@@markbullen IMO there's definitely something wrong with your unit. When mine is asleep it definitely doesn't drain like that. I know they're in China, but I've never waited more than a day or two for a response from them. Hope you hear from the them soon and they remedy your situation. Let me know how it works out... I'm sure others here would like to know as well... Ride on!
@@DirtyTeethMTB ok, I finally heard back from Magene support. One thing I didn’t realize is that when “auto shutdown” is enabled it will only turn off the device if it isn’t recording. This will definitely extend the battery so I have enabled it and will see if that makes a difference.
Sounds like a good option, but until it gets off-road nav, I'll have to pass. Too bad; I was really excited until I heard about the off-road nav, I was sold
It cannot show the current temperature on the screen and you cannot calibrate the potentiometer. It has a long way to go to be an alternative to Garmin, no matter how cheap it is.
From Magene’s site: if you keep the C606 connected to the Onelap Fit APP, the C606 will prompt you when you deviate, and when you deviate more than 300m, it will re-plan the route to guide you back to the original route.
Garmin has dropped far behind the curve. They feel like Nokia at the advent of real smartphones. The iGS800 is lightyears ahead of any Garmin device. it can be operated by touchscreen and buttons, examplary integration with the app, battery life is through the roof (real life 40++h w/o navigation) and the gui is fast (no lagging when turning), compatible to 3 satellite networks for acurate positioning and also battery optimised usage of these, large bright screen with auto brightness, graphs and dials for power, heartrate, elevation and speed available on the page layout (mix and match as you please), boots up in 5s from power off, iclimb, easy track import, great maps, display of battery life of connected sensors, ride summary on the device, you can keep track of maintenance intervalls of your bikes, ... this is what cycling computers could have been like for years now.
Chinese junk !!! when u buy cheap Chinese junk u always pay the double... because soon it will break and u need to buy another one !!! never try to save money on cycling...if u can not afford riding buy a pair of sneakers and start running... it's much cheaper.
Good man, nice to get an honest review Alan. I was hooked until the offroad navi.
Ya hopefully they update it and make it more bikepacking friendly

Good video, although you can manually adjust the brightness you swipe down from the top and you can adjust it with a slider.
Great to hear, thanks for sharing!! I wish Magene would've told me that :)

🤣🤣 I was having an off day :)
I think igpsports 630 is better for the same price
I'm interested to know why, as I agree

Oohhh I already have there cadence sensor this is my price point.
It’s def worth a looksie

Chinese junk is the biggest mistake u can do on cycling, stop buying toilet paper so that u can afford a Garmin or Wahoo.
