That’s a very impressive ceiling light. I’m definitely interested in picking one of these up. I didn’t realise it was going to be that big (insert joke here). Great review Stu.
Very nice light fitting but as you said , tis a bit of a beast . Perhaps a smaller version and a smaller price point would really open the flood gates sales wise . Excellent review as is the norm 👍
Yeah I’d love to see a few different versions of this! Perhaps some different form factors like square/rectangular… but this is a great start for sure!
Horror Spaceship Vibes feature...ROFL! Nice light but it would be better if they made the fixture in different sizes. Not sure what category I would fit in since I walk around in total darkness at night. Great review Stu!
Great review, as always! Does the main light (or the ring) integrate directly with Homekit's Adaptive Lighting like the T1 strip does, or is color temp only settable through the Aqara app?
I know what you mean about hanging lights, although I’m no where near your height I had hanging lights and my house has very low ceilings. I replaced the hanging lights with downlighters and was shocked how much taller and bigger the room felt.
7:18 Looking forward to seeing your episode on automating this. I heard the effects aren't exposed to zigbee. So I assumed they wouldn't work with Home Assistant or Alexa.
I was watching this in the hope of one thing... They included the Aqara mm-wave sensor in the device and everything was accessible over wifi/ZigBee. ... Maybe one day.
I ordered one of these, but due to the wiring in my room, I can't install it (about 12 cables coming down). I'm sending it back but will get my electrician in to hopefully install.
Cool device but I have no rooms in my house where we could put it. We have ceiling fans in each room (and use them all). I need an Aqara ceiling fan with the ring and center LED sections. Even our current ceiling lights can't use smart bulbs that would work with our Hue system because they're the GU24 socket type and Phillips don't make that.
Difficult Product type, as the design of Room Lights in my home match the style of the room and in no two rooms do I have the same light. A great upgrade would be if it dropped from the ceiling when your not home and vacuumed the floors.
After switching to the new M3 hub, I couldn't re-bind the T1M. The T1M Light says turn the light on/off 5 times. I wasn't thinking to do it RAPIDLY. That was my issue. This might help someone else.
Stu always hard to see how bright a light really is on camera, do think 2 of these would be bright enough to use in a (US) 2 car garage? Also I am 100% the full light psycho.
i am a normal person who likes to be able to see, so lights are full on. unlike those weirdos who like to have piddly lights scattered about and call it 'mood' lighting.
This is why I just started looking at alternatives. Bad price, no matter support, people posting about them breaking after a week; It's such a disappointment.
Haha, you make a good point, but i don't think modern plastics have the same nicotine yellow tendencies of the 90s... But i'll let you know in a year or two! 😂
Smart functionality is all well and good; but there's no input for the tried and tested wall switch? C'mon did no-one ever consider using this in an existing room?
What do you mean? It literally wires up in the place of your existing lights... like i mentioned.... and your existing lights work with your wall switch, which means anything wired up to the same cables will also work on the wall switch 👀 Maybe i should have spelled that out a bit clearer 👀. Incidentally, when turning it off at the switch, you can set it to either reset back to a default setting or keep its last known colour set.
@@StusReviewsUKRubbish! Just putting the switch in line with it's power supply is not an acceptable solution - no-one wants to be left with "smart" light that can be left "off" or "really off"; that's useless. Even the sonoff mini type stuff that's been around for years would keep itself powered 24/7 and provide an input to wire through your existing switch(es) so that the smart functionality can be used seamlessly alongside the existing light switches.
Surely thats down to your switch though, and not the product? The product can only do what the live cables allow it to do - and if those are hard shutoff by the switch, then surely you'd need to replace the switch for a smart switch that has an off (but not really) setting?
Why.. why.. WHY, would they not include a switched input! Most UK lighting ceiling roses have a permanent live and switched live. If they provided a switched live input we would not need to bodge our wall switches to accommodate this. We could have switch input whist allowing it to also have app control via the permanent live. Infuriating!
Can you explain what you mean as if i was 3 years old? The cables themselves are always live right, unless turned off at the wall switch, which then stops all power to the light... and thats where my understanding of this stops. Whats the bodging of the wall switches? Surely if you wanted 'off but not really off', thats the responsibility of the wall switch and not the ceiling light? 👁👄👁 (I did say electrics arent my strong point).
@@StusReviewsUK I think it works on the basis that the switch is always live. When you switch it off you break the live to the light so the light is dead until you turn the switch back on. So, if you leave your light off there is no automation. My main problem would be what happens when the light switch is switched on? I had an x10 module wired in some years ago which could only toggle when the switch was back on. This meant that at times the light switch could restore power but the light remained off until you sent an x10 command to turn the light on. Quite frustrating. The problem is due to our typical lighting circuits and the solution is to add new light switches as you've described elsewhere which act as a 'toggle' rather than an 'on/off'. This adds cost though which is a smack in the mouth if you pay £150 for a light!
@@StusReviewsUK So most ceiling roses has a permanent feed wire coming into it. A feed wire going out of it to the next light and a switch. This send live to the wall switch and back to the rose again. Because this unit only have Live, Neutral and Earth inputs you have to make a choice. Wire it permanently on using the permanently live feed, or wire it via the switched live. Both have pro's and cons. Permanent live wiring means the wall switch no longer works. You have to turn it on or off via the app. Anyone that doesn't have the app, or doesn't care for automation cannot turn the light on/off by a physical button. Switched live wiring means if you leave the room and flick the switch.. great the light goes off but the app is now useless until someone physically switches it back on at the wall switch.. therefore no automations. You've cut power to the light and it will no longer respond. Many home automation modules will use the permanent feed to get the home automation module alive all the time, but will accept a switched live also, so it know when someone wants to just turn it on or off again without disabling the device. It's been a problem for many home automation people for many years. Just ask Paul Hibbert about Neesha's instance on switching things off at the wall switch!
A hard pass from me. Price is bot an issue. I'd expect to pay that for a quality non-smart light fixture. It's far too big, IMO unattractive and, sorry to say it but it looks really out of place between your beams. I also read/heard from multiple sources, that the halo ring effects are not available in other ecosystems, just the colours, which diminishes it's usefulness for notifications massively.
Dear Stu, I'm grateful for the effort you put into your reviews, but it's unwise to make a mockery of the Divine, Our Lord Jesus Christ whom died for human kind so that we may have eternal life in heaven. Pax. Steven.

Sorry Stuart, I think you have the best taste of any UA-camr in this space, but this is a joke right? It looks like something that should be in a teenager’s room, it looks terrible in your room. It ls tacky as hell and just looks like a cheap bathroom light with some RGB.
It’s not right for every room, that’s for sure - but for me, I hardly notice it’s there when off, exactly as I’d hoped for! And if the RGB isn’t your thing for general lighting, just hold that thought… ill show how in using it as a status light rather than always on accent colour later this month 👍
@@StusReviewsUKRGB isn’t the issue, it’s the big white plastic public lavatory vibe thats going on there. For status lights I prefer a colour smart bulb in a normal light. Or Aqaras hub with status lights.

This is out of this world, without the spaceship vibes, the best smart home review I’ve seen. Funny and informative is a rare combination.
I actually need to replace my cieling light in the hallway, but bloody hell this thing is huuuuuuuge
This looks great. Paired with the Aqara microwave sensor this would be a great automated landing light.
That’s a very impressive ceiling light. I’m definitely interested in picking one of these up.

I would like to see a more squared off version with rounded corners, it would give more options with room layout

That is very cool Stu. Maybe add a cylon voice when the light goes back and forth. lol
Need a half sized version for smaller rooms like new build houses in the uk.
Stu, I have just read that govee are releasing a ceiling light version soon in the uk. Might be worth keeping an eye out for that
Very interesting design of light. I might have to look in to getting one of these.
Have you seen any smart ceiling lights with built in fans?
Can you still use the normal hard wired light switch on the wall to turn it on?
Yes
Nice touch with that subscribe button effect at @8:58. Subbed.
Welcome to the Country Club! 🥃
Been seeing all the usual smart homies cover this thing and it's "currently unavailable" everywhere. Super job Aquara...
Looks good if a little big. But I frown at the price tag of £150. A smart module, couple of meters of leds and a plastic cover!!
I was watching this in the hope of one thing... They included the Aqara mm-wave sensor in the device and everything was accessible over wifi/ZigBee.

@4:10 sounds like the kitchen light resonatews quite well, so I can't for the life of me understand why you would want something else.
First person to get the joke 😂
I read that it has a build in mesh-repeater, you didn't mention that in the video.

I wonder how long it'll be before someone manages to get wLED working on it/hooked in 😁
Quite quick if they want to pay the price point for it 😊
Genial 😂your Head under the light! 🎉
You da man Stu!
Awesome light😊
I have been looking for a light like this for when I play VR, Hue not that bright unfortunatly.
Stu always hard to see how bright a light really is on camera, do think 2 of these would be bright enough to use in a (US) 2 car garage? Also I am 100% the full light psycho.
Probably! The room we have it in at the moment is 3x4.5m, about the size of a 1.5 car garage, and it’s more than enough… super bright at night!
I just miss an information how bright it is. I haven't found any lumens for 2700k and 6500k
Could this be used in a bathroom, is it IP65 rated? Not clear on their website.
did you ever get an answer to this please?
i am a normal person who likes to be able to see, so lights are full on. unlike those weirdos who like to have piddly lights scattered about and call it 'mood' lighting.
Heresy!
Wouldn’t it be great if you could just plug in a presence sensor to live under the cover.
Someone else mentioned this… they definitely missed a trick here!
I wonder how many people are going to run to this solution just off the fact that Nano Leaf fumbled (so so so so so) hard with their "skylight".
The skylights are an… Interesting product… ridiculous price though at £420 👁👄👁
