The dreamcast really was ahead, after playing sega tennis all stars and sonic and sega racing trandformed, I wonder about what Samba's game was like a lot. I really appreciate the hard work and research for the vid, you don't even know. I also never would have known you could take out the shakers.

I remember playing it on Wii back then ! I even had the bundle that included a pair of Maracas for the Wii Remote and Nunchuck, making it my first ever rhythm game. Man, what great memories...
I've had this game in my Dreamcast collection with 2 sets of maracas since the US release. It was so great when it came out, and still is. Seeing somebody enjoy it in 2023 is awesome. Now I have to go play it myself.
Hey great video man! Just a few things I wanna add.
For anyone looking to try the game out I actually recommend buying a NTSC-J version of the game. Minus shipping costs it’s generally $20-30 less than a us copy. Or if you want the best experience IMO get yourself Samba de Amigo version 2000. It’s Japanese only so there is a language barrier but it contains an extra mode and more songs. The only major hurdle would be having a Japanese Dreamcast or a code breaker but I think it’s definitely worth it.

One of my biggest regrets in gaming was NOT buying these controllers when they were new.
IIRC they sold out pretty quick, just a month or two.

I owned it on Dreamcast, and loved it. I later purchased the Wii version, and returned it because it was unplayable.
Legit the gyroscopic fishing contrller for sega bass fishing is the best controller ive ever used i finished sega bass fishing recently just using my DC and the fishing controller i wish someone would remake this.

I had Samba de Amigo on the Dreamcast, but didn't have the maracas controllers, so I ended up playing the game with the standard controller only. I feel like I missed out, but it was still fun to button mash to the rhythm of the music with these crazy colorful background aminations. I got the game again on the Wii later on, but as you noticed the controls were a bit underwhelming. I'm excited for both the upcoming Switch and VR versions, hoping for more responsive controls.

The Japanese Dreamcast sequel Samba de Amigo 2000 is so much better and more fun than the original! 👍

I have no problems with the Wii version at all actually 🤔 well I only problem now is that I can't find it anymore after I moved... I am curious how well it's going to be and do on the Switch
They just announced a Quest game, which might legit be the absolute first time the game actually works properly without original hardware due to the 1:1 real world tracking.

@JeremymKlinger Thanks man! Looking forward to it. Re: the controller, when NiGHTS Into Dreams came out in '96 it had a controller made for it that basically was the Dreamcast controller without the VMU slot. It was called the 3D controller and it had an analog pad above the d pad.

Loved Samba De Amigo on my Dreamcast, the second game however is so much better than the first.
Only downside was it was only a Japanese release but once I got a translation to navigate the menus it was a joy to play.
Unfortunately my maracas no longer work so the Dreamcast versions have been retired.
The Wii version was an instant purchase for sure and once I worked out how the control method actually worked which I settled for the two Wiimote option I had great fun with that game from then on, still play it now and then using my WiiU.
Downloaded the the Switch demo for Party Central a couple of days ago and oh my it’s pretty good so far, the motion controls work a lot smoother than the Wii version that’s for sure.
My pre-order is now in with Amazon.
Samba De Amigo Party-To-Go is also coming to Apple Arcade on the 30th August so am quite intrigued as to how that’s going to work, will it be as fun using just a game controller on the AppleTV or using a touchscreen on the iPhone version.
I played the original on the DC when it was still relatively new, and then also years later played it on the Wii. The original was far, far superior in terms of working as intended, sure there wasn't much to do on it, but if you had a couple of friends and two sets of maracas, hours of play could be had regularly!
The Game will now get a Version for Switch
