I like how in this episode the CEO of DHL had “no idea” there were so many underpaid contractors with no employment protections working for his company. And that the “prize” for working so hard was basic employment rights.

Truth is once businesses get large enough it's easy for employees to slip into positions that actually go against the company's unwritten management policies largely so because they are unwritten and usually a large disconnect between upper management and middle management results on middle management making executive decisions on behalf of the business.
Which in large part are mainly profit based decision making rather then fairness.

@@elemenopi4827 He should have had a decent salary in the first place. What we have here is a CEO of a company that underpays a bunch of their workers, who then goes on TV to show us that he is a great guy and has decided to pay just one of those workers a better wage. It makes the CEO feel good about himself, that one worker feels appreciated, and it's great marketing for the company and the CEO, but the company still underpays thousands of other workers.

I’m an engineer and I worked for DHL as a delivery services office (van driver) for 3 years when I arrived in Australia. I didn’t have Australian references and was difficult to get a job as engineer. I worked hard, I delivered more than any other driver because I was planning my deliveries using my engineering knowledge. I was asked to present ideas to reduce costs and I presented a project to use electric vans using solar panel in our roof depot. Also, using incentives from the government. I contacted a company based in UK to get the electric vans to be used in Perth. I did all that was on my hands to get promoted but I was never get promoted, my boss just wanted me to be a van driver even though I said to him I can help DHL with my knowledge of engineering and my studies in logistics. I had to resign when I got an opportunity. This happen in 2009. I work now as engineer in a different company but I would have liked to get an opportunity in DHL. I just wanted to share this with you guys. Have a nice day and God bless all of you . Happy Easter.
