Rev match downshifting is unnecessary. It should let drive do that. All the time they automate things like this, going out of your way to disable it makes it redundant.
This car on a fast canyon road with the top down is bliss. I didn't understand the idea behind the new asymmetric rear differential until I drove it hard in the twisties. Holy crap! it's magnificent. What an incredible car.
Picked up my ND3 GT manual 10 days ago and I can't get enough. I've put 800 miles on it already. Also, I love the new wheels, don't understand all the hate. However, I will say that I think the paint color makes a difference with the wheels. My car is machine gray metallic and it's the perfect match with these new wheels. I'm not a fan of the new aero gray, especially with the tan interior...looks wrong. Mazda needs to get their color game together.
MAZDA! 😡 PLEASE GIVE US REAL COLORS!! Something other than the color of cement and a green dirt color! Soul Red is nice but it’s time to offer other brighter choices that aren’t drab….this car deserves it! (BTW, real good honest review. I subscribed after watching. ✌️
First please allow me to say thank you for your review of the 2024 Mazda MX-5 miata Grand Touring. Now, just a couple of things, the tan nappa leather is only available if you get the snowflake white or aero gray. I'm speaking of the U.S. market. Also I love the wheels on this car. I think they make the car look very nice. Adaptive cruise control is available for the 2024 model but not in the U.S. colors are more limited in the U.S. market than in others. Finally I like this car so much I have it on order. ETA sometime in July. Thanks again for your review.
Mazda MX-5 has been a hidden gem for decades. All those uneducated people who had bought Hondas and Acuras missed out. Where can you get a rear wheel drive fun car for the price.
If people are wondering why it says this comes with adaptive cruise control online and in the manual - It has adaptive cruise control in the Automatic. The manual doesn't come with ACC. So a real MX5 doesn't have ACC :D
As a tall guy (6’5”), these are absolute forbidden fruits. Would love to own one, without ripping out the foam in the seats. Wish Mazda would experiment with a grand tourer longer wheelbase spin off, to add a bit more cabin space and legroom.
I am 6'5" just got one, and I can drive it just fine. To make it even better bought some Jass Performance seat lowering rails. Will show the before and after for the Jass Rails.
Maybe not ND-based, maybe based on the platform under the CX-70/90. By the time you extend the wheelbase enough to sneak a "+2" arrangement into the back it'd be big enough to benefit greatly from adding another 2 cylinders too.
@@RotaryJunkie That would be too much. I want an RWD Celica not a Nissan Z/BMW M2 clone by Mazda. BRZ except actually good if you like(and with a liftgate like Celica/Supra/Integra instead of sedan like trunk).
@@Kacpa2 Either one seems fairly unlikely. I just don't think the ND platform would scale up terribly well, as it's very "focused" on being tiny and lightweight. Not that anyone is or is planning to build an actually-smallish liftback currently. It's a segment that died around Y2K due to sales and we've done nothing but stray further. Weird that everyone will happily fulfill your liftback dreams with an SUV though...
I don’t understand this rev-matching concern, not only yours but other UA-camrs. Although I’m lazy enough to like automatic transmissions, I learned on a stick, and I’ve owned a plethora of stick-shift cars over the years. It doesn’t take much practice or skill to rev match with the throttle. Adding a “rev matcher” to the transmission just adds unnecessary complication-something else to go wrong.
It's more fun and engaging, but less practical. I wish Mazda actually made a 2+2 coupe based of MX-5 finally, but they probably wont, while people seem to cricle jerk around vapourware of next "RX-7". I dont care about the rotary, i would love rwd coupe with Miata's driveline.
From what I understand, the Toyobaru twins are better on track out of the box, but the ND is a better daily (assuming you can live with the tiny size).
I kind of like that the heating, ventilation and air con controls have automatic positions for each selector and what looks like precise temperature controls or modern "auto climate" In the Mazda3 i drive, the seats and steering wheel heaters are linked to climate controls (Mazda calls it the "occupant comfort" setting) i wonder if the mx5 has the same setting.
Does the grand touring model mean the suspension is more cushy for poorly paved roads? I like the idea of a more 'racing' inspired club model, but not if it means the ride is much harsher.
It's great that Mazda is still making the Miata and that it's not electric. The tan interior with color-matched panels is nice. It's about time Mazda caught up to the dull gray color. I still want a Miata as a third car. Maybe an NB. NAs are too expensive now that they've become rare but no one wants an NB because it's "the one that got rid of the pop-ups". NCs and on seem too modern, not basic enough.
Zack, I just read that Miata sales are really down. As a purist, I demand they keep the manual. Maybe if they add a second row, one ton of mass and a 2 speed transfer case they could steal some 'convertible' sales from Wrangler and Bronco. 😉
a dual zone clima wouldn't have any meaning in this car ! not even an adaptive cruise control - this car is for real driving ... not having the car doing it by itself.
"but a quarter inch has never mattered to anyone" Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. I fit in ND roadsters, I /do not/ fit in RFs, and the difference is about a quarter inch. Maybe a half. Point being the roadster has just enough room for me to recline the seat /just enough/ to get my head off the roof while being just far enough back to get my knees out of the dash. The RF loses one "click" of the seat slider for the same recline, so my knees end up in the dash /and/ I have to duck.
But what if you like to eat ice cream and even in cool days you are knee deep in traffic. The paddle shifting is good enough. Food enough for formula one and good enough for me.
Try looking at their "competitors". Your other choices are a I4 Mustang that is more expensive and only comes in auto... Then BMW which will cost you 60k for the bare minimum.

I love that Mazda is just going simple. The unnecessary amenities like rev matching and radar cruise.

I’ve seen the tan with the red (the BEST Color) but haven’t seen a tan roof ? That would be my choice !
I have a 2021 soft top in Jet Black Mica. I absolutely could not imagine driving anything else.
I have a 2021 soft top in red. Absolutely love it! Sadly I live in MT so can only drive ~4 months out of the year

A fast front-wheel-drive car is like being the tallest midget.
It's not a hidden gem. It's the best selling roadster.
Sad cvt integra noises, I’m fighting the urge to trade it in for either MX-5 or GR86/BRZ

It’ll be nice if Mazda can make a slightly bigger version of the Miata (like a new RX8)

It needs wider wheels, tires, lowered ride height, bigger muffler, and a factory rear spoiler imo.
It should be illegal to by this with a automatic transmission unless you’re a amputee.
