August very interesting about shushing the naysayers in your mind. It's hard to explain to non climbers but I totally know what you mean. Sometimes your body is feeling unsafe, but in your mind you know it's irrational. Yet it can happen the other way round too. So it's about deciphering both and coming to a safe conclusion to progress. And not pushing either too far beyond what you feel is safe. I think... hard to explain.. Made a promise to my wife that if there is a live tree to tie into I will, sometimes it's a bit more effort but it's always a more enjoyable climb having a safety net.

Many years ago I almost didn't get to go in the arch because I had a 2 inch long assisted (not auto) knife in my pocket. They didn't care about the 4 inch conventional knife in my pocket.

Hey August, your thoughts at 22.00 were interesting stuff :) I think you would find a book called 'The Rock Warrior's Way' by Arno Ilgner very interesting....it is a book about the mental aspect of rock climbing but is applicable to anything that requires conciously going into 'risky' situations and dealing with the thoughts that arise from such things...i've been rock climbing for about 20 years and up trees for about a year now and the usefulness of that book has been priceless for both disciplines haha..anyway I think you would really enjoy the book and would like to hear your thoughts about it in the future sometime!

How do we like the odds of that smaller (live) fir (hard lean, heavy branch weight) not dying and falling on the house/carport in future? And how do we like the rope rub on the larger live fir when roping out the dead fir top? (Im sure i would have done the same thing, unless the bid accomodated friction saver install)
Not much of a question I suppose... Just curious why that third smallish fir wasn't removed as well? To me it appears unattractive and potentially hazardous, leaning hard towards a structure and perhaps sharing the conditions which resulted in the death of the first two firs. One of the aspects I enjoy most about your videos is your vocalization of your thoughts and processes. Thanks for sharing any thoughts about this third fir tree 👍🏿

Hey August, nice work. That tree was getting pretty spongy! I just finally got a Protos helmet, so I tried out making my first helmet cam footage the other day. It's definitely hard to remember to keep steady... Most of the footage was dizzying😂, but I was able to get some decent clips. I have to get used to talking to the camera next, seems strange still... Sad I missed the show in St. Louis. I'm sure it was great!

I just did this like two weeks ago, sent a top chunk of cherry and didnt see a rotted piece . It hit the ground and blew right off into the siding.. i wanted to stop the job right their until it was fixed..
Guess the homeowner could have hauled his outdoor tv indoors. Seeing the title I was more concerned there was going to be part of the tree give up underneath him. Not an outdoors piece of glass.
Hey guys, I know you guys check your trees as you are spiking them up and you say if is too dead you won't climb it, just a quick comment here just keep in mind that with any dead tree we don't when/where it could fail (I'm in the same industry) but if we have a climbing line on another tree when there is another tree that could make the difference if the tree we are working on fails. If the the tree is too dead to climb,walking away could be the best thing to do. Greetings, GOD bless.

thats why we make the big bucks, that stuff is expected to be ok, accidents happen at all levels its how you react and respond.
