  • Some Beverly Hills residents and business owners are expressing concern for their safety as homeless encampments expand along this affluent city’s border with Los Angeles.
The encampments have appeared along San Vicente Boulevard near Orlando Avenue, just south of the upscale Beverly Center shopping mall. Residents reported seeing a homeless woman, who they believe was intoxicated, lying naked on an abandoned couch.
KTLA's John Fenoglio reports on April 13, 2023.

In the USA, individuals living in cars due to partial homelessness result from a complex interplay of factors. High housing costs relative to income, stagnant wages, and income inequality drive this issue. Job loss, weak social support, medical expenses, evictions, and lack of affordable housing also contribute, while systemic problems and inadequate policies further perpetuate the phenomenon.

Considering the present situation, diversifying by shifting investments from real estate to financial markets or gold is recommended, despite potential future home price drops. Given prevailing mortgage rates and economic uncertainty, this move is prudent, particularly due to stricter mortgage regulations. Seeking advice from a knowledgeable independent financial advisor is advisable for those seeking guidance.

We have the same problem in my city. Last week the mayor said the city will allow tents only in public parks. The proposed solution is to develop several unwanted pieces of land and built mini homes that would house the homeless. They are not much bigger than a backyard shed with shared toilet and shower facilities. The ongoing problem is that landlords are charging unaffordable rents since there are so few rental units available compared with the demand.

Are you new to LA? How is it that you don't realize that Redondo, Hermosa, and Manhattan Beaches have all been picking up homeless individuals and transporting them all to skid row since at least Jan '97, and probably years before that of which I'm unaware.
This isn't a new problem. That's 25+ years of not addressing this issue before it became out of control.
Reagan cut all the funding for mental institutions back in the 80s, and that was 2 terms of his, and one of Bush senior, that those building fell into total disrepair.
The US didn't have a homeless population until that happened, and then POOF overnight these people were forced out of mental institutions and onto the streets. Some have been there ever since, self-medicating.
These actions have long-term consequences. You almost never saw homeless people in any city in the US except for a very small number of transient, low-functioning psychopaths, before Reagan caused the mass closure of all those institutions all over the US and it happened almost overnight.

In other words, those institutions that shut down have been vacant for DECADES now, and might be in extreme disrepair. If they have not been maintained they will be a DANGER to anyone who moves into them, and especially service dogs.
We need a temporary solution, in buildings that are already in operation and safe, and people need services in the interim while the work on long-term solutions.
A lot of the homeless individuals have untreated bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and the drug addicts mostly have underlying Cluster B disorders for which there is no medication, and they need long-term therapy which is incredibly specialized and expensive.
Those who are suffering from untreated PTSD will most likely be the fastest population to treat with EMDR and get back on their feet, as long as they don't have any comorbidities.
This is not a quick fix. The money has to come from somewhere to pay for all this, too.
We do not have socialized medicine here the US. Our physicians have hundreds of thousands of dollars of student loan debt they've borrowed and owe.
Medicine for profit in the US is a massive problem, as is education for profit. In other countries, they don't have to pay to go to medical school, or to get a nursing degree, or for dental school. In the US, we do.

Its really sad. We had a local homeless person aka addict/mental health person in our neighborhood. Took nearly 3 years of him screaming, howling and crapping on the street at all hours before he got help. He only stopped a couple days a month when he got paid and was able to pretty much be comatose on drugs, or for an hour or two during the daytime when he slept I guess. The rest of the time it was like having a banchee out in front of your house. The cops were called all the time, in fact this neighborhood has the police station at the end of the block but nothing was done. Finally a couple months back he started banging his head and falling all the time and they fitted him with a special helmet. When he started removing that and nearly killed himself the "ever kind" lefties did the unthinkable. They put him against his will into mental health treatment. Unfortunately I think it was too late to save his life. People who think they are so "moral and kind" because the only people whose activities they want to control are the tax paying, law abiding normal folks, otherwise allowing people to sleep in the elements, live in filth and take drugs day and night is ok with them. I sometimes think these lefties are so afraid they are going to be told they can't smoke pot or take their recreational drugs they are willing to forfeit anyone's life who has the misfortune of getting addicted.

WHERE ARE THE POLICE???? There is typically some very simple bylaw that is not being applied. 1:16 clearly states this. I am in Vancouver, Canada. We have "tent cities" all over the city and surrounding municipalities. It was recently stated on our news that there is a bylaw that requires all tents to be broken down and removed ....DAILY! So "over-night" ....tenting ....is allowed .....I think in parks ....BUT THEY CANNOT REMAIN DURING THE DAY! So my question to OUR police is ......WHY AREN'T YOU DOING YOUR JOBS???? These police in Vancouver are now being paid $122,000 annually ......they JUST GOT A RAISE .....and then they've got benefits, perks, pensions, and pension benefits.
And somehow, ONE tent becomes 30 or 50 tents .......and a whole pile of junk littered all around every tent!!! WHERE do these "homeless" people get all this stuff ......AND transport it to their tents????
Lets face and come to agreement ....the PRIMARY PROBLEM IS DRUGS. It is in Vancouver, Canada, .....and every single city and town and truck stop across the entire country.
SO WHY DON'T WE STOP THE DRUGS ENTERING THE COUNTRIES .....CANADA AND THE U.S.????
WHY NOT SPEND A COUPLE BILLION DOLLARS AND SHUT DOWN ALL ILLEGAL DRUG IMPORTATION??? This cost would probably pale in the costs drug addicts impose on ALL the support systems in both countries ....policing, medical services, funeral services. WORK WITH THE COUNTRIES THAT EXPORT DRUGS!!! If we don't, it is just going to get worse.

However, they do not ignore if it bothers their personal lives. As an alternative, park your RV outside councilman Katy's house. Again, film it and post on UA-cam how quickly you will be forced to leave or given a ticket.

A couple of weeks ago, they were finally ran off and it was all cleaned up. before that, they were on the north side of the highway, kind of hidden away until the camp got out of hand and they started burning tires.
