I'm the proud owner of that exact SQ5 - colour and everything. I completely agree with your assessment that the overall package is the #1 highlight of the vehicle. After 6 months of ownership, it has proved to be the perfect combination of sportiness/performance and practicality/versatility. As for your #1 criticism regarding the overall subtleness of the exterior design, I can agree to a certain extent. But, it has been fun watching people (mostly Audi people) squint their eyes trying to figure out what is different about my car vs. the other Q5's out there. There's a part of me that wished it had a bit more visual impact, but the other part of me loves the "sleeper factor". Two more highlights I have are the 8-speed tiptronic gearbox and the audible "frap" between shifts under hard acceleration. Simply intoxicating. Nice review. I'm glad to see you "got" the overall point of this vehicle.
Yes, the what I call Bwap between shifts is very nice.My X3 twin scroll turbo makes a whoosh between shifts. Thanks for the comments. I'm glad I got it right from the ultimate judge - an owner of the same car.
During a call you push on the left scroll knob on the steering wheel to hang up. You can voice dial using the "speak" button on the right side of the steering wheel.
You know that is voice activated for calling and does have a hang up button or mute during a call which is controlled on the left side of the steering wheel. Also you don't see much changes on the BMW regular to M series
Hey, so i'm not choosing either vehicle Sq5 or Macan. The Sq5 and Macan were the same price. Dealers try to fool you with 42 months vs.a 36 month lease. It was the same amount. I was able to get a good deal on the Macan S but need to wait 3 months for it. On top of that, there is no maintenance program so 3 dealers all said there's a $500 service due at 10K, another one for $750 at 20K and I will need a brake service at some point ("depending on how you drive") for over $2000. Looks like I will be staying with mercedes and their amazing maintenance package that is prepaid but well worth it for being covered for 3 years.....
Like your reviews. Styling is a matter of taste. But as been pointed out the phone is controllable either by voice or the mode button will allow you to have complete control of the phone.
Good review which would have been good to complete with a drive test. I agree most of the points except the phone button critic. In fact the phone can be completely driven by vocal command and Audi didn't want to over charge the steering wheel with many buttons unlike some competitors. Note that the SQ5 sold in Europe is the Diesel 313 hp model, unfortunately... We would love to have your model here Bye

Everyday Reviews Sorry for the late comment, great review. I just got my 2015 SQ5, which should be mostly the same as the 2014 one. If you press MODE button on the steering wheel, you can actually access the phone menu with the small screen by the odometer, You can access phone book, call, hang up, just by using the steering wheel controls...
The S models don't look dramatically different than the standard models on purpose. Audi is nothing if not subtle and it's been SOP since S models were introduced that they don't stray from the initial design much; a few cues here and there, but that's it. I prefer the approach, but it's not everyone's cup of tea. I agree that not having USB ports is a glaring oversight. I'd be happy with just charging ports- Bluetooth makes a connected port nice to have but unnecessary, but the lack of basic charging capability is frustrating. There should be at minimum one well placed port for each front passenger and a double port coupled with the DC charge port for the rear seats.

I would get the SQ5 personally especially if the bottom line is important to you. Madan looks way better and better interior but to do one up right = $$$$. I'd just like to have a little more style. I'd probably wait though as the Q and SQ5 or pretty well do for a makeover very soon.

Yes, but I think that you will find that once you start adding up options to the S, you're gonna be way more than a well equipped SQ5. The Macan does look way better though and is extremely capable. I drove one at Willow Springs earlier this year and it handled like a sports car on the track.

I don't disagree that the SQ5 is nice looking, in my opinion, I just think that it's just a little plain especially for an S model, compared to some others like the Macan. Some potential buyers should note they will need to purchase a winter tire/rim combo if they have any plans of driving the SQ5 in the winter.

I like that it is a bit of a sleeper. Mine is volcano red metallic so it looks fancy enough already.

U do have a button to hang up on the steering wheel, it’s the left up/down toggle, u just push it inwards to answer and push it again to hang up.
