I think it's more than a break up. It's from a loss due to a death, which has him in a dark depression. "... I see a line of cars and they're all painted black. With flowers and my love, both never to come back." = Hearse and a funeral procession. He is so hurt that he wants "... the sun blotted out from the sky." Along with anything that is "sunny" or "happy." At least that's what I always felt it meant. Peace!
Yes that is the correct interpretation, "I could not foresee this thing happening to you" (Death) People equate to Nam because it has been played in some movies and was out in that era.
I saw The Rolling Stones many many years ago. Great band in concert, very high energy. The instrument is a sitar. The sitar is a plucked stringed instrument, originating from the Indian subcontinent that found its way into rock music in the late 60's and early 70's. Enjoy your reactions. Rock on. 🤘 Peace. ✌
Not a break-up song at all...it’s about his lover dying and his emotional darkness in the aftermath. In fact, the name of the 1966 album that this song is from is called “Aftermath”
That sound you like is a sitar. It has that distinct sound. It looks like a guitar. I saw the Stones 2 years ago, and they played this one. They sounded fantastic.
Great song, great review. This song reminds me of myself sitting in front of our television watching Walter Cronkite on the evening news during the Vietnam war. I sat there watching American soldiers being dragged down the side of a hill knowing that my number was coming up. I was 17. I got a letter from my brother before my 18th birthday asking me to volunteer into the Navy or Air Force. He was there and he was worried about me. I saw that as a beautiful gesture. Figure that. He didn't want me there. I did as he asked on the day I turned 18. A few months later my flight commander gave me the bad news. That song was on the radio earlier that day. I had heard it before but on this day it had stuck in my mind. How ironic.
I was looking through your vids, thinking to myself "I'm gonna find where she's AT". This is where I found ya. 😎 You pay attention to LYRICS! That is RARE lately!
This came out when I was in Jr. High and I'm 70 now. We knew what it meant at the time. The line of cars was a funeral. The death was of the singer's wife, girlfriend, whatever. A little down for the time. Also the video has a few of the lyrics wrong. One of them should be "I want to see the sun blotted out of the sky" not "flying high in the sky". By the way your reaction videos are very good. It's encouraging to see younger people appreciating some of the good music of the past. There is still some good stuff today, but you have to search for it.
Great reaction and your description of that kind of withering, post breakup melancholy was spot on. The instrument you asked about is a sitar. It's played on the song by the late (great) Brian Jones.
If you haven't heard a sitar playing along with the guitar, you will in this song. This was in the 60's during the Hippie movement. All the big bands were embracing Hindu culture, learning to meditate and do yoga while listening to sitar music. You may hear the name "Ravi Shankar" who was a sitar master that they all revered.
As others have noted, it is a sitar (Indian stringed instrument) played by the late Brian Jones. In 1966 this was a huge hit and helped color my childhood (I was 11). This song has been sampled a fair amount over the years.
Great! The "Stones" were such a HUGE band in the 60's and 70's, it's almost hard to fathom. You might like "Get Off Of My Cloud" from the mid 1960's. The title alone should pique your interest, lo☮☮☮l.
No baby , it's not a break up song it's a mourning song,a short time before that song Mick Jaeger girlfriend died unexpectedly in that song he expressed his feelings of anger ,pain and sadness to her untimely death. Early in the song he talk about a line of cars painted black with flowers and his love never to be back. The black cars with flowers are the hearse at a funeral, his love never to be back, his dead girlfriend, it's a really sad and angry song, and one of my favorite from the Rolling stones ❗
Thought it was a funeral could be wrong but I don't think it's a breakup song anyway great song great reaction till next time smile on girl🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥✌🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Not a break up song and not a funeral song. According to The Stones, it's about a horribly disfigured/ugly man who lives his life shunned by people and not able to find love anywhere.
the last part lyrics should be "i wanna see a painted, painted black" its not "i wanna see your face, painted black" another one "i wanna see the sun blotted out from the sky" its not "don't wanna see the sun flying high in the sky"
So many others have already said, but I don't mind repeating: it's NOT a breakup song; it's a loss song. And apparently the loss is irretrievable, hence a death (funeral) song.
from a deep pit of despair (but still can't help rockin...) u should get into the stones if you liked this. always have a provocative point of view, and baby they rock like nobody else...
It’s an anti Vietnam War movie no matter what any band member of the Stones has said about it in interviews. The timing, tone and imagery the song provokes all point to the absolute uselessness of the Vietnam War. It’s also my favorite Stones song.
The song was written while the band toured Australia in early 1966 and is about a grief , death and loss. The song has been heavily used in Vietnam war movies and TVseries like Tour Of Duty, but is not about the Vietnam war.
No it isn't, it is about his lover dying. "I see a line of cars And they're all painted black With flowers and my love Both never to come back" That is the funeral, the rest is about his depression. It was just out in the Nam era and used in Vietnam war movies.
@@DayOneReacts , don't worry about it, anyone can interpret it whichever way you want. I was just around during that period, was actually born just a few years after the song came out, and me and some buddies of mine used to listen to these guys, the Eagles, and many of the groups that were huge during that period. I've listened to groups that no one even remembers, so don't get upset. I really enjoyed your reaction and hope it doesn't discourage you from keeping on reacting to these old school, classic songs. It makes me smile when I see younger people listening to music I grew up with. The Rolling Stones were great and they are iconic now a days, and don't worry about what people might say or think. You do you, this is your channel and don't forget it. Just wondering, could you please do the full version of "Nights in White Satin " by the Moody Blues or "I Love You " by the Climax Blues Band. The second song came out in 1981, the first came out in the 1970's. Then there is the 1985 megahit, "We are the World ". I think you would love all 3 of them, and there are 1000's more from the 1960's to the 1990's. And just so you know, I enjoy your reactions videos. Keep going. 😊💯
@@DayOneReacts The instrument you were wondering about is called a Sitar. It's featured heavily in a Beatles song called "Norwegian Wood". Check it: ua-cam.com/video/Y_V6y1ZCg_8/v-deo.html
It's not a breakup song. "I see a line of cars and they are painted black, with flowers and my love never to come back.." That's a funeral.
Yes. His wife or girlfriend had suddenly died. Another stanza that gives it away is "I could not foresee this thing happening to you".
@@Afontanez1962 Yep. Also, "just like a new born baby it just happens every day". People die every day

The lyrics on screen have got it all wrong with 'Flying High'. That's not what he wants.
Line of black cars, flowers, his Love never to come back.
She Died...

Death of a loved one song. Not just a breakup
Good introduction to the Stones! There music is endless!
Sympathy for The Devil is a great Rolling Stones song. It’s my fav.
The Rolling Stones - Gimme Shelter (Official Lyric Video)
It's the cute lady hi.This record is a masterpiece.Take care from uk.
One of my favs to play and sing! Love the drive of the song!
I was looking through your vids, thinking to myself "I'm gonna find where she's AT".

That is RARE lately!
Other than being on the Full Metal Jacket soundtrack, this song has nothing to do with Vietnam or anti war.
actually it's used in alot of vietnam-era things. It was the main theme song for that Vietnam war tv show - "Tour of Duty"
You ALMOST get it! More than most reactions I've seen, but she did not leave him. She is dead, it's a whole different kind to hell he's dealing with

Seen them in 1980 thought they were old then lol my favorite band
Its about death not a breakup. 👍
Hi Ms. D., When I had the privilege to listen to a radio I heard this song all the time in Vietnam.. ♠W.G.

Her: Its a break up song
Me: *spits out my coffee*
I fucken love this song
Brian Jones playing the Sitar 👏👏
The song is about his deep grief over the death of his love! 💔
Great song, I love the early stones: that is an Indian Sitar (which I play a little). Try Ruby Tuesday!
Thought it was a funeral could be wrong but I don't think it's a breakup song anyway great song great reaction till next time smile on girl🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥✌🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
This is a death song - not a breakup. Stones had a lot of very hard hitting lyrics. That instrument you hear may be a sitar.
funeral black yes. the music hints at a funeral too. think new orleans jazz funeral march. this music puts the fun back in fun'eral.
Next Rolling Stone song, "Honky Tonk Woman"
Thank you!

This Song is from 1966, Stones at their best.
Evanescence, My Immortal, very powerful song, you should definitely react to
It sounds like a Sitar....an Indian string instrument.
You've heard this song in a commercial? LOL!! No..
It's a destruction song, for when you want to destroy things.
Yes, very good song.
So many others have already said, but I don't mind repeating: it's NOT a breakup song; it's a loss song. And apparently the loss is irretrievable, hence a death (funeral) song.
The Cult,Fire Woman. Talking Heads, This must be the place
Indian [from India] Sitar is that string instrument.. actually played by one of The RS's.
Sympathy for the Devil................
I may be wrong but wasn't this song used on the TV series Tour of Duty? Maybe that's why it's been associated with Vietnam?
This song is about Depression.
Find "She's so cold" by the Rolling Stones I promise you will like it. Thanks you're great!
SAW THEM 3 TIMES IN CONCERT
from a deep pit of despair (but still can't help rockin...) u should get into the stones if you liked this. always have a provocative point of view, and baby they rock like nobody else...
Check out Roadhouse Blues by The Doors!🔥🔥🔥
It’s from a death.
He's in terrible pain and he just doesn't want to see anything that doesn't reflect that pain, that doesn't feel that pain like he does.
The sitar brain Jones playing it
It's song about darkness serving Satan wholeheartedly
Oh my
That is a sitar an Indian instrument
It's an Eastern European/Arab rhythm
Why is your Chris Isaak - Wicked Game not available anymore?
They did the song called Angie the most beautiful rock song probably ever made. There again ouch
Sympathy for the Devil,... pleeeeaaase. :-)
It's about a funeral
I believe he's pondering suicide... "If I look hard enough into the settin' sun, my Love will laugh with me before the mornin' comes."
Tour of Duty.
Under my Thumb
I think that you mean the sitar...
About deep depression.
One you would like for sure: is the song "Miss You" by the Rolling Stones.
No clue
Vietnam war song.
No his girlfriend is dead.
PLEASE PLEASE WATCH PATTIE AUSTIN AND JAMES INGRAM . BABY COME TO ME. you will love this love song.
His love died.
She died
Sorry miss,it's not a break up song.
She don’t understand it 🙄🙄 all songs are not about breaking up.
It’s an anti Vietnam War movie no matter what any band member of the Stones has said about it in interviews.
The timing, tone and imagery the song provokes all point to the absolute uselessness of the Vietnam War.
It’s also my favorite Stones song.
Indian SITAR . They look way too big to even hold and play . Satisfaction and Street Fighting Man are two more from that Brian Jones era
Angela, not a break up song at all, its an anti-war song.. particularly anti-Vietnam war song. One of the most powerful of its time.
It's a Vietnam war song, about soldiers in Vietnam and what they were going through. Red doors were where soldiers could get women for the night.
Oh, so I got it totally wrong 🙄
The song was written while the band toured Australia in early 1966 and is about a grief , death and loss. The song has been heavily used in Vietnam war movies and TVseries like Tour Of Duty, but is not about the Vietnam war.
No it isn't, it is about his lover dying.
"I see a line of cars
And they're all painted black
With flowers and my love
Both never to come back"
That is the funeral, the rest is about his depression.
It was just out in the Nam era and used in Vietnam war movies.
