Kershaw released 3 traditional patterns, the Gadsden trapper, the Culpepper Barlow and the Brandywine stockman. I did a video on the Brandywine. I have my eye on the other two. I think you may have pushed me over the edge to get them! Nice video, thanks for sharing!
Sweet thanks letting know. I thought four but that’s even better because if I wanted to pick them up less hunting. I’m going to check them out. Are they similar materials just different models?
@@TheLastRanger they are all similar materials. My main complaint on the stockman and what made me hesitant on the Barlow was that on the stockman the tang is square and not rounded. I know they are budget but even Rough Ryder polishes the end of the blade so they feel smooth. I show that on my video. Otherwise it is a great knife and I really like the blade shapes on this series. They are going for an updated traditional, which I think is great.
I'm beginning to have a fondness to them too. But I'll be honest, I don't know much about them. Like how do you care for a knife you can take apart. lol
Thanks for making this video. I didn't know this knife existed till another knife video led me to this one. I collect Rough Rider traditional knives, but they don't make a large, single blade barlow. They make a jumbo one, but it's a bit too long, so I never carry it. After I got 5 or 6 minutes into this video, I ordered a Culpepper on Amazon. I've had it for over a week know, and I love it. I think it'll be one of my most carried knives.
I'm happy to have helped. I'm not really a traditional guy. I enjoy looking at them. But I don't collect them. But the Kershaw Culpepper reminded of a knife I carried as a youth and I had to have it. It rides in my desk drawer and I use it from time to time. I really like it!
@@TheLastRanger , the Culpepper doesn't really apply here, but there's a big advantage to carrying attractive little traditional slipjoints. You can use them just about anywhere, and nobody gets uncomfortable or freaked out. People naturally know they make terrible weapons, and the smaller and prettier the knife is, the less they seem to care. Maybe you should get a few... 😅
I honestly don’t remember the music. 😂 I’ll have to see what I used. Wish I could get my hands on a Northwoods. Is Northwoods like a grail of traditional knives?
@@TheLastRanger Maybe, I almost bought an older one on ebay a couple of weeks ago that had lots of use. It ended up going for over a hundred. Since I was at work, I lost track of the bidding :( Oh well, it wasn't meant to be I guess :) But, that just fuels the hunt :)
I got the full copper D2 blade version which is very definitely what is considered a modernized traditional because of the screws used in it instead of the brass pins. If you haven't found out yet, you are correct I'm calling it a barlow, it is technically what is commonly called a granddaddy barlow which is just a large single bladed barlow.
I seen that on SMKW Shayne. I hope you like it. I’m glad they decided too do a couple variations on the Culpepper. I need to my hands on that one. It looks very nice. 👍🏻
On the topic of "Big" modern traditionals - last year I went to the Böker store and picked up a Böker Magnum Majestic XXL for the fun of it. It's a classic folder, but scaled up by a pretty ridiculus amount. Still usable size though! It basically feels like a pocket sword haha
Wow, I had to look that up its like a knife for giants. Andre Giant if he was still alive would appreciate that knife a lot. I'm going to send your knife to your BF after work today. I'll send you tracking afterwards. That's like a toothpick compared to the Majestic.
I like that knife a lot! I like that it’s a large traditional folder, but I love that it isn’t bulky. I like the materials... (though I wish the blade was a better steel) but it’s a great knife, I really like it!
A knife of that design is often called an English Jackknife......like a longer version of a Barlow. Typically a true Barlow won't be over 3-1/2" closed. If that Culpeper has a strong back spring, I'd like to get one. I don't like slip joint knives with weak springs.
HI Lex, I'm not a traditional guy but I collect some traditional knives. If I had to guess, I would say it a 6 maybe even a 5. Its not break your fingernails tough. I have knives that are definitely 9's. Like the Jack Wolf Sharpshooter and the Traditional Pocket Knives Ohio River Jack. I asked the same question in todays video hoping someone in the comments could answer your question. The Blast from the Past video that launches today I mentioned your question about the Culpepper.
Hello Gary, it's another Slipjoint... should I be worried?😂😉 $ 16.00! Wow ... in Germany € 39.00. I've seen a lot of Buck videos lately. I'm a bit hooked on the classic look. Thanks for showing👍. Best regards Joe
I would love to afford a Boker. I’ve seen some Northwoods models I like too. But I don’t think the brand exists anymore. Currently trying to decide if I should buy a Buck 591 Paradigm.
@@TheLastRanger Northwoods unfortunately only on the secondary market. I've seen a few older German videos about. They are hard to get. The Buck 591 is a mix of traditional and modern influences. Yeah those Northwoods knives are really nice. I discovered them on Instagram and was blown away. The cheapest one I found on secondary market was still $400. I’ll probably end up with a Boker. They seem like excellent!!
@@TheLastRanger A few knives in this traditional style are from Böker Plus or Magnum by Böker. But I think, that's not the same. I could also imagine for you a used but well-preserved model with a bit of patina for you. Is just an idea😊.

I've seen your lanyards, you can tie a simple snake not? I always make my lanyards so you have to cut them off. Only knots I know is snake, diamond knot and not very well.
Pretty cool knife… nice of them to include a lanyard hole for the weirdos. Have a good week GARY.
Go back to the old logo at the very end of this video 😁

I would review the Schatt and Morgan Baby Sunfish in the thumbnail, but I'm afraid I know nothing about traditional knives and would embarrass myself
why in the world would they put jimping on a slip joint
Maybe it’s was for looks. You know some people decorate a knife spine and blade with jimping and scrollwork?
