The older I get the more I appreciate the Barlow pattern. I didn’t appreciate it when I was young and dumb, but learning how to do “knife stuff” with it as a kid made other patterns so much easier to use as I moved “up” into more fancy patterns.

Thanks for the video Tobias! A lanyard on the knife is very appropriate but to retrieve the knife easily you can also squeeze the slip and it should release the knife. Thanks for your great support! Appreciate you!

Thanks for the tip. What I like most about the slip is it is form fitted to the knife. Not to mention the color is perfect.

It's a really good looking knife and a great size. Great to see your take on it. I'm excited to check it out and compare it. John made an awesome slip for it too. Excellent video Tobias!!!!

A near-perfect back pocket knife, I think. Thanks for the review.

This peeked my interest. I've been looking for an "in between" Barlow. Great video.

I bought three of the copper ones when SMKW had them for $24 two Christmases ago and gave them to my grandsons My only complaint was they varied greatly in pull from say 3 to 7
From your video it appears they have upped the build quality
Moreover it’s like a 4” Barlow rather than the usual 3.375” standard or the 5” Granddaddy
All in I like it and see that you do as well
It’s a nice JO slip I love mine
    God bless

My only concern with this knife as I've reviewed it in other handle materials had been the pull strength. They seem to be very inconsistent knife to knife.

    Hi Tobias:
My main problem with the Barlow pattern is the smallish size. This Kershaw Culpepper solves that problem for me. It’s a great size!
    Really nice review. 👍👍

I too like the size of the knife, I think it is about the perfect size for edc for me!! I actually have one of the G10 handles, and I very pleased with it. Thanks for your review and thoughts!!
    Have a great day 😀

It is a beautiful knife and really kind of a tweener size wise. Not quite a large Barlow, bigger than a regular sized one. Bigger than a boys knife and a regular sized English Jack but configured as such except for that luscious clip point blade. Thanks for another good look Tobias.

I bought the inexpensive Rough Ryder tortoise shell Barlow that's fit/finished to an impressive degree. Now I like Barlows.

That’s a nice knife. I was really hoping you would get around to this one!
I have only one leather slip. Since I use it for everything from folding hunter to small stockman, I sometimes have to stuff a little oilcloth or something in the bottom to fill the extra space 😸

As I see it, this would fit the bill for someone who wants to carry a traditional knife but is afraid to risk carrying a favorite knife from their collection. Your presentations seem to be improving. Keep up the good work.

I own the jigged bone version of the culpepper with copper bolster. I personally find the build quality to be really good on the particular knife I got. The smooth red bone looks really nice as well but I doubt I would collect more of that particular knife. Maybe if Kershaw knocks it out of the park with another pattern I would pick up more kershaw traditional knives.

Thanks for the review. This one has been on my wishlist for a while but I thought it's just a little too expensive. Does seem like a really solid knife. Love the d2 steel and the size.

There is something about a mirror polished blade. They’re great for safe queens that won’t be handled much. But the fingerprints they get with even the lightest touch are a real PITA to follow up. Satin finish is way better for working knives and edc imho. That would heavily influence my choice between this and the RRR

I agree with you that is not what I consider a true Barlow the bolster not long enough, your remarks about UK legal about right the Police measure the cutting edge so it would be confiscated and you could be fined up to £500:00, best of luck trying to talk your way out I certainly wouldn't risk it. To me the handle doesn't flare out enough to be a Barlow having said all that it is a good looking knife and gorgeous colour.

When I think of a Barlow in my mind it has two blades and long bolsters. The others are Johnny come later models in my mind. They fit the folding hunter knives slot with a second shorter blade. I have Kershaw knives I like but in my my mind, I do not think slip joint and Kershaw in the same thought. I also can say that about Cold Steel slip joints too. It seems to me, we have enough Chinese slip joints imports already to satisfy me.
If someone wants to start collecting slip joints for fun, Kershaw and Cold Steel are late to the game. Chinese imports are not the bargains they once were either. You can buy Case knives for a little more money and have an American made knife if you look around. Knife companies say they intend to move production to America is great however doing it is what I want to see happen. How many brands of slip joint knives can you afford to collect is another question. 🤔

I actually think of this as more of a “Boy’s Knife” because of the short bolster.

I like the size of the red barlow. A lot of people like the one bladed barlow but i like having the extra pen blade, it's very useful. Also the D2 is a turn off to me because D2 is harder to sharpen and does not take a fine edge like a traditional slipjoint should, which is why I don't like the Rough Rider Reserve. If you can't get a good working edge with a wetstone or sandpaper its useless in my opinion.

I'm no fan of the leather slips. They're pocket knives not leather slip knives. Our dads, grandpas, and great grandpas carried them in their pockets not leather slips. Plus it just takes up extra space and weight in the pocket. No offense to anybody, just my opinion and personal preference.
