It would be really interesting to have a "follow-up" series, where you track down the owners who abandoned it, and get their story as to when they lived there, and when they left, and why they left so much behind, and why the place was abandoned rather than sold to a new family.

The house is very nice. It's a shame it's being torn down. Of course the beautiful floors, etc. will be salvaged and reused. Anything of good quality will be used somewhere else.

I think this is cool because the people who abandoned it are likely alive right now and their story is so recent. It makes me so curious what happened.
The other guy explains it in the video. Developer offered them a pile of money so he could redevelop the land, then apparently his plans got stalled (big surprise /s). Especially with the way the economy has been the last decade or so, it's really not uncommon to see people walk away from large homes like this when their property value tanks, or they just realize they will never really be able to afford the mortgage.

Hopefully some things can be taken out before demolition. Countertops, cabinets, bathroom vanities, railings. If the new owners are smart they will take the things out and sell them. People want this kind of stuff.

It was built in a part of the US that experience harsh winter's. Combination of that and the house not being winterized made plumbing vulnerable to cold snaps. Frozen plumbing means broken pipes.

I doubt anyone even tries to salvage any of it. They would rather trash it than give it to someone who sincerely could use it. Serious question for someone who doesn't investigate abandoned properties. Now obviously this place isn't that old, but what precautions do you take when exploring upper floors? I'd be terrified the floor or stairs would give out in some of the more dilapidated properties.

I guess it had no dining room. The room with the fireplace was what? Family room or living room? Most houses with 6000 sq ft have both. It would have been nice to see the yards. Best things about the house, in my opinion, is the stairs and the kitchen. Is the kitchen cabinetry cherry wood?

This is 21 Irwin Place in Bradford, ON. Well I should say it was. It was demolished and the Bradford West Gwillimbury condos/town homes were built in its place.

I figured they spent around 1 million and probably ran out of money and then developers came around and offered them 4.3 million which in turn the house was probably worth maybe 2 million so they pretty much retired more rich than when they first started off and got the hell out of there and retired rich and now living comfortable without mortguage payments or they just doubled there money on a quick sale.

That house is in canada I'm pretty sure . As a canadian , I saw many canadian brands of items in the house . Haha
I figured they spent around 1 million and probably ran out of money and then developers came around and offered them 4.3 million which in turn the house was probably worth maybe 2 million so they pretty much retired more rich than when they first started off and got the hell out of there and retired rich and now living comfortable without mortguage payments or they just doubled there money on a quick sale.
Leaky roof on a 9 year old hold, that sounds about right these days.

H. J absolutely. Such a shame to waste a house that has had so little use and was clearly expensive to build. Just the sheer waste of materials really annoys me.
Sad to see such wastefulness wish they could repurpose stair case use granite counter tops somewhere else,the windows etc

So how long did they live there took alot of fixtures but left alot of stuff behind! The barbi's not really scary kids just always loose the clothes & shoes normal kids stuff!

That is not a "mansion". Hell, it's not even a McMansion. It's just a large(ish) two story house. That is clearly very cheaply built.
