I actually love the concept of having the OPTION for more portability or more grip ergonomics in just a second by having this kind of grips, instead of other devices which are locked to have huge permanent bumps behind or are just flat all the time. I find this the sweet spot, I use no grip when on the go, just put the R4P on my pants pocket but whil at home I always use the grip.

I don't have a retroid pocket 4, but I do have the retroid pocket 3 plus, and for me, the grip was absolutely worth it. I have big hands, and the device was a bit small for my comfort. The grips give me a better hand position and bigger area to grip. Night and day in terms of comfort. I have a switch lite case (a regular, non slim case) and it fits the retroid with the grip.
On my RP3+ the grip doubles as a case by flipping the grip to the front. Which still allows me to charge and protect the screen when tossing it in my backpack. The recesses on the inside also allow the buttons to float, so I don’t see any longterm issues there. Does this grip allow for that with the RP4?
Hey Russ, thanks for the grip review! Is a video about docking stations for the RP4 Pro something you would do? Because many of the docks i found that support USB-C-video-out seem not be working well, others are a bit on the expensive side.
Hey Russ, a good PS2 game to test emulation performance is Steambot Chronicles. Not only is it difficult just to emulate it at full speed, but it also has a lot of graphical effects that some devices struggle with.

I ordered the grip along with the RP4 pro because it is a vital for playing analogue stick games (mainly PS2 & Gamecube). It's so uncomfortable without one.
Always looking forward to see what their next handheld will be. I just ordered the Retroid 4 Pro in watermelon color and added the grip in black as well. I sprung the extra $20 for DHL shipping because.... I want it now. I would have ordered a screen protector for it but, I didn't see it in time. Guess I'll do cheap shipping on the screen protector.
My RP4 Pro is on the way. I ordered the grip with it as well. On my 2s I prefer the grip on and only don't use it if I'm traveling or something just to keep less stuff on me. Since I'm mainly playing at home and don't take it out much I usually prefer grips on. Now I'm going to have to test it with it off and on though it's a really make sure on this device.

First of all I don't know the full libraries of the systems you mentioned due to the fact that I am not a console expert that still would like to play some games ideally recommended once I might enjoy more than ones I found by accident. Second of all I know there must be games on newer consoles that might work great on a dpad that I also simply don't know about and would like to know about. I am asking this in the comment section of a channel that handles retro gaming so Russ for one but perhaps even people like you might know some great games that are playable with a dpad that I don't know about, thus my question.
I have mine and so far I love it. I followed Joey’s setup guide. Most games I play work fine. SSX 3 and tour have sound issues. I need to check performance mode in them. I’m still working to establish saves effectively. But I like it so far.
I’ve got big hands so the similar RP3+ grip helps me with 2D D-pad centric games too. Unlike Russ I keep my grip on 24/7. The $15 grip was definitely worth it for me. I don’t love the extra bulge shape of the grips at the top of the back of the device right below the triggers where my middle fingers rest, but I’ve gotten used to it.
I know this video is kinda old but Russ, you talked me into getting the Pro version for the extra $50, at that point, I figured, screw it, and I got the grip along with it. Might as well get the most comfort out of the device if I'm already spending $200.
Fingers crossed my rp4 gets here in time. I ordered it to my hotel while on work travel back to the States. Once I'm back in Japan, it will be a nightmare getting it shipped.

Looking at your setup videos though and any chance you can make an updated version of setting everything up? Just viewing your videos of setting up the retroid pocket 2+ and 3 gets kind of complicated since they both look different and it’s kind of a hassle having to go through each individual video back and forth. Would definitely help especially for a novice like me 🙏🏽
Russ, do you think they will change the screen hardware down the line to actually resolve the green tint. So a hardware fix instead of fixing by software. Or do you think the software fix will last for the life of the unit?

Glad I got the grip with mine after watching this. Just waiting on it to arrive. Been stuck in some chinese distribution center for 4 days now. Just staring at my tracker willing it to move on.
Would be interested in any differences in emulator or device settings needed when running video out through usb-c. I plan to dock sometimes at home, and use AR glasses with it while traveling.
The only thing that holds Retroid Pocket 4 back from being my perfect retro handheld is that it's got a 16x9 screen instead of 4x3. I guess the tradeoff is that PSP and Gameboy Advance games work great on that format.

I picked up the grip for my Black RP4P. I don't think I will take it off, but who knows. I always put a grip on my 3DS systems whenever I played them - and I use a Hori Split Pad Pro for the Switch.
Maybe I missed it in the review, but is the device still pocketable-ish or will the rubbery texture make it difficult to take it in and out of a cargo shorts pocket?

Please check if you can put the grip the other way so it acts as a screen protector, the grip was the case for my RP3+. I hope that does apply here as well.

It looks nice, would love to see a grip for a vertical or Tate mode. I loved using the rp3 for those types of games but I the weight distribution starts bothering me after like 30 minutes
Hey, I was wondering if you don’t mind answering a question I am moments away from buying this device, but I want to know where to go to get the games that I want if they don’t already come on the device also I’ll be using the device itself in order to get the games. I’m not incompetent or slow by any means, but I just didn’t grow up with a computer and I’ve never gotten into emulation using a computer so with his android device, it opens the door to possibilities of using the device itself.
It's really about your awareness on browsing for things on the Internet and your aptitude on Android OS (super similar to PC imo). I'd say look up other videos that setup previous retroid units; there isn't much if any difference to this unit, just much better hardware under the hood. Internet archive is a good place to start for game preservation inquiries
I feel like I can’t play without since using it. Just doing the set up took hours, and I could feel the cramps, but I’ve been able to play for hours sitting on the 4 pro and don’t feel a thing. I have a similar one on the switch too (with a case) and I just wished they made a case for the 4pro w grip, so I don’t have to remove it to travel

I can’t help thinking if so many people order a grip (which makes the console ugly as hell), either it means that people chose a device not adapted to their hands, or that the design is a bit flawed

With the RP3+ you can put the grip backwards and it'll protect the screen.

I have the RP3+ and also asked forte grip. It makes a big difference playing long time with the grip, you play much more confortable with it.

I can’t help thinking if so many people order a grip (which makes the console ugly as hell), either it means that people chose a device not adapted to their hands, or that the design is a bit flawed
