Best wishes my friend, which I probably shouldn't say since we don't know each other, but I do say because your personality comes through nicely!!! By the way, I hope to start getting my now blank empty studio room on the road this week coming too. Last year I built a walk out balcony, already had an upstairs kitchenette - it all takes time.
A very informative and entertaining hour spent on UA-cam. Many thanks for finding the time to produce it during a busy and tight schedule. I hope you give us all a little tour around when everything is in it's place and up and running.
This was so entertaining to watch, your edits were so seamless! Congratulations on the studio man, well deserved for the work you put in. Now I'm off to rob a bank so I can upgrade my studio
Welcome back Cameron! Thanks for all the effort and hardwork that you put in your videos. It really helps a lot, no matter how much experienced a music maker or sound designer you are. Your work is truly top notch quality and totally honest. Hope the new space and setup inspires you for new kind of content! Really stoked to see what's gonna come. Thanks from my side for all the inspiration. You are one of the most Important reasons that got me into spacy and ambient music. Thanks a lot. Wish you all the very best for the upcoming future!! Big ups from India. 🇮🇳 Keep Going!!
Ayyyyyy thanks so much! Really glad all the work that goes into them doesn't go unnoticed and unappreciated haha. Definitely stoked to be in the new space - lots of ideas brewing and can't wait to get started! Cheers! ☕
Oh Venus... oh oh oh... I wish I'd been around this project from the start. Better late than never, I suppose. Preamble. My 4th and final build began in 2010. It currently occupies 4 rooms, hosting 10 hot PCs, with 4 more on the ready deck. 500+ I/O, a 240 channel digital audio fiber optic matrix, an A/V control room suitable for two peraon operation but also functional with one, a Tracking Room for synths, softsynths, tube amps and tube amp sims, the Live Room, w V-Drums, pads triggers etc etc pkus room for a client kit, more guitars, bass, and then the Live Rig Room, near egress for eaay transport, but always set up for programming, re-config, research, and double duty as additional monitors, processing us 4 PCs, and of course the primary live DMX string. All rooms have Chromakey backdrops,, video lighting, DMX lighting and treatment, plus... power. Point 1. A studio is never done. It is best begun with production objectives in mind, but progresses day to day in (hopeful) balance between artistic production and continuing installation. 2. Home runs go in first. A/C, analog and digital audio, digital video, and of course Cat Cat Cat. Triple the Cat. 3. I could have your wall up by the end of today, with panels hung. Not finished, not even painted, just studded in, door hung, rocked on one side, anchors for treatment. Leaving options for insulation, multiple stud arrays, varipus eock techniques, etc. That's due to 20 years high end res construction, 10 interior trim, and enough tools to stand up $2 to 5M shells. Plus the kitchen, library, panelled officeS.. etc. Without that experience, 3 days. One to research basic framing, one to acquire matls, one to stand it up. (The stair side poses access issues, which would be resolved in a couple hours falsework.) Bastard hip roofs, stairs, straight or spiral, and fine cabinetry are about as tough as res construction gets, and this ain't that. This is a knee wall and couple sheets of rock. Prehung door. 3. To max that space, long term, you will run out of (long span, bouncy?) floorspace and need to go UP around the perimeter. Like home runs, treatment, and paint, finishing the perimeters early pays dividends in early functionality, and long term ease. Enough for now. PS... hope you didn't forget your MIDI homeruns. It's required to SMPTE/MIDI sync your compute cluster and you really wanna preserve alla the Cat 5 for future options.
As usual, I'm late to the party on this one... but another enjoyable and very helpful video. The biggest thing of value to me from your exercise here was learning that I probably don't need to go the whole 'studio (room)' treatment for what I'm doing/intending to do. I've been mucking about with keyboards & guitars for maybe 50 years and having recently retired from the '(insane) world of work', I'm intending to do a lot more with my music... and as I'm almost entirely doing things in the 'electrically confined' world (no vocals, nothing acoustic, DI guitar with all the sound in TheDAW(tm) ), I can probably manage well enough with a 'studio corner'... although I still think I need to sort-out a 'more suitable' desk. As always, 'tis 'horses for courses'... but I'm pleased you have a well-organized and comfortable space in which to do your magic... :D
Thank you so much for sharing this process with us. My partner and I just bought our first house and we are moving in soon. She is also super supportive and awesome. I'm getting the 3rd bedroom to make my own studio space. In the current house we are renting it's been crammed into the bedroom. I can't wait to get started on my, much more humble, but still exciting project. Thanks again Cameron, while I obviously don't know you anymore than I can from watching your content, you strike me as a genuinely good human. The quality of your content has been amazing lately as well man. Keep up the inspiring work.
It's so inspiring to see people rewarded for their hard work 👏 I've discovered your channel only recently a few months ago and you seems like a humble and cool dude, and I've learned quite a few things from watching your videos so big congrats man and good luck with the new studio! 💪🎉
Hey Cameron! What do you do about powering your setup? I recently learned about power conditioners. And I haven't found a lot about them in terms of studio setups. It would be great if you could teach something regarding the subject.
Hey Cam, try stopping by some automotive tint shops and ask for a few samples of different tint to use on your spot lights. That way you can go brighter without it actually being blinding. Itll look more bold and full. Instead of a bright whitish red you get a more dark blood red. Just a thought. Keep up the good work.
It's funny that people look for gear with character but want rooms to be even/flat. try all kinds of different mic setups and monitor positions. your rooms will surprise you.
Do you know Colt Capperune? Your room looks identical to his before the make-over - you've each remodeled your rooms into a studio and he is near Nashville - I'm guessing that's where you are???
Cameron, the best hollow wall anchors I've used, that hold a great deal of weight and don't strip out or break like those nylon ones are these metal types - I've used them for over 20 years and have not had one fail yet: amzn.to/3yFJWs7 - you can get them at any hardware/home store.
Nice! Luckily these only weigh a few pounds each so the plastic ones are more than good enough, but this will be great for when I get around to doing some shelving and storage!
I almost choked on my pizza when you read out my name and question. I kind of just put that out into the ether and gave it no more thought! Thanks for addressing the topic. It really is something most channels ignore though. Its not as sexy as doing a bedroom conversion, or a full studio build so I guess it wouldn't get the same views.I got monitors (Presonus Eris) but I always knew the situation wasn't right for them. Its great to make music with the headphones off for a while though, on something more suitable than my gaming speakers; so it was worth it. Which is a really long way of saying thank you.
...great video and ideas, and I love when she shouted your..out..hahahahaha...What keyboard stand is that?I need one that holds two heavy synths..I am about to totally renovate my space in several months..
Yo! Currently I use Sennheiser HD6 Mix headphones - really I think any pair of mixing headphones around $200-$300 is a safe bet these days, but Sennheiser has always been my favorite as I find they tend to sound nice and full without being too hyped.
Congrats Cameron, your new setup looks awesome, especially with the updated lighting and camera gear! I couldn't help but notice a 5-pack of cassette tapes on top of a tape deck. Do you make regular use of them, or are they just nostalgic ornaments? :-)
Thanks! Super pumped to start filming in this space. Cassette setup was a Christmas gift from my wife! I do actually use it from time to time to make samples, but lately I always grab Sketch Cassette II instead haha. For now, this pack is just decoration until I decide to mess with tape loops.
Get some anti-reflective on your spectacles, could help 😉 (personnaly, I hate that 'cause it's fragile, you scratch it easily and the glasses are ruined but I don't do videos with my face on them...)
We've lived in our house for 30 years & did remodeling during the pandemic. Bad timing! We paid 30% more for everything. Now late 2021, I'm re-doing & upgrading my home voice over & songwriter studio. Your videos are helping A LOT. Thanks.
LOL Phase 4: "Coffee Action" sounds as though Intel and Marvel Cinematic Universe came together to develop a "Tick-Tock" Story--arch for the next evolution of Cinema, all centered around intel Pushing their CPU as the new big prize, now that the Infinity gauntlet is destroyed.
Congrats on the new house and studio! Looking pretty sharp! I'm working on my new Shedio too (little cabin in the garden to make music in), building acoustic panels as we speak! Keep up the cool stuff and I will be checking your Patreon page!
Shedio sounds awesome! That's actually my plan for our next space I think if budget/landscape allow. Good luck with the panels - remember to measure twice and cut once! If you're in the Discord, drop me a pic when it's all done!
Happy to be back! I think if I had to pick: - Waldorf Blofeld - Tasty Chips GR1 (or MicroGranny maybe) - Novation Peak, Polybrute, or some kind of 'warmer' poly synth to round it out. Of course, a good reverb and delay are a must - pedals or plugins, you can't really go wrong!
I have the same midi controller like you. I would be curious what you think about it. To me key-bed feels cheap and flimsy, I'm afraid to not brake it if I press to energetically.
No complaints at all - still holds up great even after daily use for the last few years. Whenever it goes bad, I'll just buy another haha. Keylab MKII is easily the best MIDI controller I've owned. I think the only real competitor is maybe the Nektar controllers.
Hey That was a great video, I like the way your Studio turned out thanks for sharing, you inspired me to keep making tunes even if it's just a hobby. lots of great advice. thanks
Glad you enjoyed it! And really glad to hear that - personally, I still think retaining an 'ameatur' mindset is the best way to go about music. I have to remind myself from time to time that it's about having fun!
You moved to an amazing area. And close enough to Nashville if the music business requires in person collaboration, or services. I was looking at that area myself.
Haha I had to add in a few filler shots in a rush, but hey who's against some acoustic synth jams now and again. Interface can actually run them all at once! But, I can't do it with a mic plugged in at the same time haha. Rare that I need more than two at a time, but maybe one day I'll upgrade or bust out my mixer in those cases where I need more I/O stuff.
Congrats on the new studio and the new Patreon thing. I wish you much success there. BTW - I grew up just east of Clarksville in Cookeville, TN! You picked a great area! Some day I may head back that direction. Keep rocking, Cameron!
Thanks! Excited for the new space for sure. Actually drove by Cookeville the other day! Clarksville is pretty awesome, looking forward to getting out and exploring the area more now that most of the big home projects are done.

Now, you have to give the channel a new name:
"Hangin' with Venus Theory."
Congrats, dude! Thanks for being a real human.
Hey Cameron, it's an amazingly cool grey tone studio! We love your video and really appreciate your kindly support!
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed the video - of course I think the lighting really helps haha

Sounds kinda familiar ...
I'm sure it'll come back to me. 😜

Venus, thanks for coming back. With your experience which could be your top 3 for hardware synth for ambient drone?

- Tasty Chips GR1 (or MicroGranny maybe)
- Novation Peak, Polybrute, or some kind of 'warmer' poly synth to round it out.
