I’m surprised how much I’ve missed this kind of truck. A new version of the 1970s-1990s rigs of old. Please post the build sheet for us to download. Great video, Andre.
You can pay 60k for midsize truck. You get a lot with this truck. Winch, on board power, bed liner, huge payload good towing and best console in the business. 👍
Yup, that fuel economy is pretty much what all gasser 3/4 ton trucks get. I live at sea level in southern New England. I had a '96 F250 (8600 GVWR) with 5.8 and 4-speed E4OD weighing around 5500lb, which got 15-16 on the highway and 13 in overall mixed driving. Now driving a '16 F250 (9990 GVWR) with 6.2 and 6-speed, weighing around 6500lb, getting those same MPG numbers, which your '24 is also getting. They find small efficiency improvements in engine and transmission design then cancel them out with more weight and features.
I work for a garbage company and we recently got a brand new 2024 f-350 regular cab with the 6.8 V8. I am super impressed with all the amenities that the lowest base model super duty is equipped with now days. The 6.8 engine in a 2wd one ton regular cab is a rocket ship and I still average 14.9 mpg in town. I really want to order the same truck as a crew cab 4wd.
If I were looking at getting something for off road, camping, hunting, fishing, towing a camper/boat truck -this is it IMO. You didn’t mention if it had the extended range gas tank which would be essential.
If you're referring to the 48 gallon tank, I believe it only comes on a crew cab with an 8 foot bed. At least that's what the specs say and I don't see a way of ordering it for other wheelbases.
I still drive my 2010 f-250 xl 4x4 supercab with the old 5.4 and 5 speed. Regular maintenance and it finally lost the tranny at 250,000. Put a new one in and I have to say, it’s still my favourite truck and gets the call in most “truck” situations, even over my 2018 f150 xlt crew 5.0. Nothing beats a good work truck.
5.4 sounds great and is a little slow, but has good torque for the displacement. Good combination although it's not the best tow engine. I had the 5.4 2v 5 speed in a E350 moving truck towing my Explorer 2,000 miles across the West. After I got used to it, it did ok but struggled up almost every mountain pass.
I want to see more 6.8l testing for sure. Can’t wait to see how it does on the Ike with a travel trailer and see how it compares to the 7.3l. Will need to replace my 6.2l in like 5 years so these will be used by that time and perfect to move into without paying the crazy new truck prices.
Hopefully used truck prices will deflate some by then, I doubt it, but one can dream. These days if you're in the market for a truck it's almost better to go ahead and buy new with a full warranty and everything because the price differential between a solid used truck and a new truck isn't as big as you would imagine anymore.
I agree with you on the carpet , the only positive with the carpet is the cab is definitely quieter with carpeting Andre said 70 was his noise cutoff in a truck , it would definitely been 70 or less with carpeting.
The sales guy looked at me weird when I said I wanted vinyl floor with cloth seats. I love how easy it is to clean the floor after I been working or out for the day.
Andre, you've latched on to the perfect truck!! Ford--thank you for building an amazing truck in an obtainable price range (kind of). I have a '15 250 XL, very base model...I love it! The only thing missing on this truck are the upfitter switches. These are super handy for my headache rack with lights...plus the snowplow guys use them. Great feature again, Andre.
That is a perfect truck, I have a 2008 F150 XL & love the simplicity of it. No power windows, no power locks, 5 speed manual, over 200,000 miles & never have had one issue with it.
I can deal with no power windows however I don’t wanna deal with no power locks, I just wanna be able to come up and tap the unlock and be able to get in and out. Also it’s great to have the truck running and locked through the fob, if you have a diesel atleast
If they offered a 7.3 hybrid, after it was out for 2 years and got all the stuff worked out id sell my fleet and change over. I got the powerboost and absolutely love it for my daily.
I'd argue putting the powerboost on the 6.8... Would probably at least match the hp of the 7.3 and add some economy in a market that really doesn't care about mileage at all. Would be a serious advantage to those of us that rarely tow, but want the capability on occasion.
Nice truck. Very close to how I’d configure a F250. With the 4.30 gearing you could move up to a 35” tire once you wear out the 33’s. I love your reviews, keep up the great work!
I miss my 6.2. Was a really reliable truck and drove fine. Used to tow a 10000 pound trailer with it fairly regularly and it handled it very well. Mine was an XLT but had a leather interior added. Was a great truck.

Stop justifying their outrageous pricing! There is no justification for the price of these trucks. $60k for a stripped down truck? No reason they should cost that much especially the amount of trucks they produce. Its not about what you are getting, the mfg knows that people are stupid enough to buy them for that amount. They would be forced to reduce pricing if people would stop buying them. Say they are to costly so the mfg know that we are tired of paying so much for a pickup truck.
Id absolutely love if all the big brands released new old school trucks. Not saying they gotta have wing windows and manual windows but just more basic. Do some old school 2 tone paint, old school gauges etc with some new school feel and reliability. Not everyone wants/needs an ipad for a stereo or all digital gauges. Sometimes you want a brand new reliable rig and you dont need/want the over the top digital everything soace ship like interior and the price tag that can get you a home on acreage in some states lol even base model rigs these days are so over the top and come with a hefty price tag.
I ordered a new '23 250 reg cab 4x4 6.7 HO with winch. Truck came in but it took 8 months to actually get the winch. Dealer said they could not sell until winch was installed as it was on order/window sticker. Now nearly 9 months later dealer has winch installed but truck still sitting on dealer lot. I bought something else
That's the reason why I didn't buy a Ford. The poor ordering (they won't tell you actual payloads or actual time) made me go get something that was on the lot. Got 98% of what I was looking for with a $9k discount.
Nice truck. We do really like our F350 with the 7.3 Godzilla. We’ve made several videos about towing, daily driving, the transmission and more. Great truck, but not without some hiccups. -Chad
I prefer the ram . Not only is it more comfortable to drive . But when it breaks down you don't have to take the truck apart just to get to what's broken .
I live in Canada and I'm in my second winter with Duratracs on my '19 Ranger. They're horrible on ice and any road with snow on it. Got a foot of it in your driveway and they're good, but just for traveling in it. The road in this video was wet with zero ice.
Cut a few options and you have a great work truck. I like the specs and did not know that the transmission is different from the 7.3L 10 speed transmission. Thanks for sharing that.
Andre and his XLs...Yeah, me too. All I need and less to break. That Off Road (aka FX4?) is perfect. Haul my Arctic slide-in, pull the boat, or load up some firewood. All good. Thanks
That front bench option can fit an extra set of cup holders that latch in under the middle seat and sit over the hump. I prefer it to the big center console.
Material and labor costs are significantly higher in the past 4 years. If you really need a truck you would understand that and wouldn't be complaining.
@@302Mustang13 It’s still ridiculous My 21 F250 loaded platinum tremor was stickers at 86k. Same truck 2 years newer is 106k costs didn’t go up that much. It’s greed
@@trevormangus7832 It's not greed if people continue to buy in the same volume and pay these prices. Now if Ford and GM saw F-150 and Silverado/Sierra sales down 50%, they'd have to make them more affordable. Ram sales are already taking a dive and their prices are getting even more expensive.
Yes. Inflation is 20% or so the last few years. But Ford’s prices have increased over 40%! I was shocked by the price. Definitely I would lose the inverter, winch, extra cameras, etc. Then it would be more like 53k maybe? Ridiculous still but kinda doable.
Thanks Andre for reviewing an XL with the 6.8. Looking forward to hearing more about how it is working for everyone else. I just bought a 2023 F350 STX crew cab with the 6.8 and so far so good. Hoping the drive train proves to be durable ; I really like the truck and hope it’s around for a while.
That’s a nice Ford F-250. It’s different from the majority of what’s popular of the F Series but someone who wants something and not worry about all the electronics the XL is a good choice.
Looks like a great truck I would skip the winch and get a extended cab but it's very interesting. It also costs twice what my currant truck did new so I may be waiting a while before I will buy it.
I tow 5 days a week for the last 15 years 20 foot cargo trailer that's packed out I do it with a Ram 2500 6.4 hemi it's more than gets the job done so I'm assuming this 6.8 could easily handle hard work current truck has 25k miles last hemi had 100k miles I haven't had 1 check engine light on unlike the previous 3 diesel trucks that all had problems under 70k miles point is I would stop telling people they have to get a diesel it's a complete waste of money
Please do an Ike gauntlet and any other towing tests possible with the new Ford 6.8 Superduty. I would love to see how it does. Especially in comparison to the Ford 7.3 and the GM 6.6 gas engines.
I have specced pretty much this exact truck a few times and is pretty close to what I would get if I was in the market for a new truck. For now I'll stick with my 2001 F250 XL with 377,000 miles.
DAMN, $60K! I guess I should not be surprised but wow. My '16 F250 XL 6.2 cost $37K and I thought that was pretty shocking. No winch or crew cab or inverter power, but otherwise fairly similar; I do have the factory spray in bedliner.
Toyota is installing Ford/Sterling differentials in their trucks? That's a full floating rear differential with 8 lug hubs... I've never seen one in a Toyota from the factory. You must mean the same gear ratio?
I currently have a 2021 F150 XLT 2.7L Ecoboost, it’s a great truck, but I like trucks so much that I want something like this too😂 this F250 is great. 👍
hope your having better luck with that truck than me my 2023 f250 had pinion bearings go bad at 4600 miles and been sitting in the shop 3 weeks cause they r on back order
Not just as a work truck, but anyone coming from an older truck too. I picked up mine last weekend and it's same or nicer than my 20+ year old mid level truck.
It's a good question. I wonder about this because the upper gears are overdrive so depending on how the transmission is programmed the end result might be quite similar but I've seen no real data on this. When I look at the EPA numbers for the F-150 with it's wider range of axle ratio, did not see much of a difference. I don't recall any rated difference, but don't remember the details of testing.
I have a F350’XL STX , pretty much the same truck he is showing, with the 3.73 rear. I only have about 1100 miles on it, but have been running really close to what Andre was showing ; about 14 for short trips and about 16.5 on trips that are mostly highway with some country roads and some stop lights.
@@Chris-ut6eqOverdrive is a scenario in which the vehicle cannot reach top speed and in which it could only achieve top speed by downshifting. In Murikan vehicle parlance, it means when the input and output shafts are connected, achieving a 1:1 gear ratio. 7th gear is 1.01:1 10th gear is 0.63:1 It can achieve top speed in any gear above fourth. Therefore, it is never in overdrive in the traditional sense. It does not have a mechanism to connect input and output shafts, therefore it is not in overdrive in a Murikan sense. It's is short for "it is". Its is possessive.
3.73 is the ideal ratio unless you are towing heavy or towing significant weight multiple times a week. Always love seeing the 3/4 ton and up trucks towing a light fishing boat a regular car can tow
I hate driving in icy conditions. Please be careful! That truck is impressive. When the Devon Horse Show comes around each year, I see a lot of heavy duty trucks like that pulling horse trailers.
Love that truck. I hope we get to see more of it with the other TFL personalities. Would be good to see the Ike gauntlet test to compare with the Godzilla tremor from a few months back to see if it’s worth the extra 40k
Eventually upgrading from my Ram 1500 to a 2500. Haven't decided between a manufacturer yet but really torn between Ram and Ford- my truck camper is 2200 lbs dry.
@@Sheepleton those are largely unicorns and i don’t think Ram has anything in that ballpark (the most I’ve seen is like ~2500lbs on a V6 regular cab 8’ bed 2wd).
@@NoLimitsCommemorativ dang yeah I’d want to step up sooner than later depending on how far you typically travel like that. Could easily near 1000lbs over payload with yourself, gear and fluids onboard.
415 Cubic in = 6.8 liters I am liking the vinyl floor , wait 2 years and pick one up for $40,000 is this engine based of the 6.9 Diesel with 4 bolt mains ?
Are you guys going to do a base engine comparison again anytime soon? I'm not trying to crowd you or anything, I know it's a matter of getting all the trucks together at the same time which probably isn't to easy, but I would love to see another base engine 3/4 ton comparison like you guys did a few years ago to see how they all stack up together.
I mean ram and Chevy havnt changed their base engine still 6.4 and 6.6. Ford should have just made the 7.3 standard. 6.8 is underpowered compared to other base engines
@@agentcarderdoesn’t the 6.8 make more torque than Ram’s 6.4? Seems fine to me to have this as a base engine that is only for work truck models really.
@@agentcarder I mean the 6.2L was slightly less powerful than the 6.4L Hemi they tested last time they did a base engine comparison and it still wiped the floor with it. And also that last comparison they used a 6.0L Chevy it was before the 6.6L came out. So between the Ford 6.8L, the GM 6.6L and the Ram 6.4L that's two of three new engines that haven't been directly compared other than in separate videos. I honestly think from a performance perspective it will come down to the 6.8L Ford and the 6.6L Chevy. The Ram's 6.4L has been a disappointment in pretty much every performance test they've put it through.
The winch isn’t that bad. Think, you gotta buy the winch, $1200 ish, buy a bumper, near factory replacement with winch mounts is $1200 - over $2000. I think it’s a higher end option so I place the value f the bumper around $2,000, so you pay minimally for the installation. That payload is more than fine for the base motor. It’s not a Godzilla, but it’s not a slouch either! If you are hauling, gas is ok, once toy get to towing frequently, you need the diesel. You get that extra $$ back when you sell it. It’s not such an expensive option when you look at it that way. It’s likely easier to sell. Maybe not Ram so much as of late,,,,. You can put together a really nice Dually SuperCab as a 6.8 XL truck. You can get polished inserts for the wheels if you like a shine (I do) and chrome bumpers, just enough to make it nice, in my opinion. Andrey has great taste in trucks as well, to each their own. If I decide to switch to a truck camper n the future, like I want to, I will be ordering a Dually, 4x4 XL, well optioned, and that will be what I haul my camper with! Get to where we want, drop the camper, hook back up to the trailer with my boat and fishing gear and head out from the base camp!! Life is good! 😊
Are the hubs manual lock like the old days? Have to get out and turn them in by hand? I haven’t seen that in 25 years. Looks like old school manual hubs for the 4 wheel drive
Heavily considering an F250 after my jeep is paid off (won't be trading in). My build would be similar to this but in an extended cab. Luxurious trucks are nice but I'd have one that could do it all - tow, haul, camp, and comfortably haul my family, for less than $55k. If I want a massage, I'll go to a place that does that. Android auto, backup camera, power windows and locks and keyless entry is all I need.
I’ve never been a Ford fan, but I must say that’s a really cool spec. they’ve put together there. Some real off-road capability without useless bling.

Andre and his XLs...Yeah, me too. All I need and less to break. That Off Road (aka FX4?) is perfect. Haul my Arctic slide-in, pull the boat, or load up some firewood. All good. Thanks
Appreciate the review on these low content trucks!
Low content? I specked one. It has about $10k in options.
@@is6566 I should have used the word "lower" 🤷♂️
STX trim is one for me!!
That front bench option can fit an extra set of cup holders that latch in under the middle seat and sit over the hump. I prefer it to the big center console.
Just FYI that’s a 23, not a 24. They discontinued the Pro Trailer Backup Assist availability in the lower trims in 24. Verified by VIN
If you need backup assist, just don't pull a trailer...
It’s absolutely ridiculous that just a few years ago you could buy a loaded powerstroke Lariat for that price. These manufacturers are greedy
@@lukelovell1055people need to let them sit on the lot. If people weren’t buying them, the price would drop
That is a very smart truck build.
The desk with the dash plug is the best option ever, use mine everyday.
I am still curious about the Duratrac vs the new Duratrac RT vs KO2. Can you guys do a comparison in the snow?
Great truck, thanks for the review.
I'm planning to get the exact same trim as you, but an F250.
My god the perfect work truck.
Yes!
I use the duratracs on my jeep in Canada winter and they do really well, anything without sipes is no go.
That’s a nice Ford F-250. It’s different from the majority of what’s popular of the F Series but someone who wants something and not worry about all the electronics the XL is a good choice.
if only it would cost its relative value. This is an example of taking out 95% of options but only 20% of their price
That's awesome! Might be a great replacement for my older midsized truck that gets similar mps but a ton more capability
0:25 does it have a cruise control?
I have specced pretty much this exact truck a few times and is pretty close to what I would get if I was in the market for a new truck. For now I'll stick with my 2001 F250 XL with 377,000 miles.
I think it’s time to come back to ford, Andre! This is exactly what you wanted!
Is their going to be a 6.8 vs 7.3 video?
I have that exact spec in my F350, everything I need, nothing that I don't!
I just ordered this truck today… however the dealer told me I was not “allowed” by ford to have black painted bumpers and had to pay $225 for chrome…
DAMN, $60K! I guess I should not be surprised but wow. My '16 F250 XL 6.2 cost $37K and I thought that was pretty shocking. No winch or crew cab or inverter power, but otherwise fairly similar; I do have the factory spray in bedliner.
4:30 is same rear end that’s in the tundra. It’s why there so good at towing. This truck will be a beast
Toyota is installing Ford/Sterling differentials in their trucks?
That's a full floating rear differential with 8 lug hubs... I've never seen one in a Toyota from the factory.
You must mean the same gear ratio?
@@jodyspencer433yeah the ratio
The ratio is the same in this truck that’s all I was saying
I currently have a 2021 F150 XLT 2.7L Ecoboost, it’s a great truck, but I like trucks so much that I want something like this too😂 this F250 is great. 👍
I had those Goodyear duratrac tires on my 05 silverado LT and had them on my 2015 chevy silverado LT also really like them
As usual, a expert analysis of the new 2024 inexpensive F250 LOL Thank you andre you're the best
Inexpensive?
You had me at work truck!
hope your having better luck with that truck than me my 2023 f250 had pinion bearings go bad at 4600 miles and been sitting in the shop 3 weeks cause they r on back order
Have they done a loaded and unloaded 6.8L compared to the 7.3 for MPG?
Not just as a work truck, but anyone coming from an older truck too. I picked up mine last weekend and it's same or nicer than my 20+ year old mid level truck.
Wonder how the mpg would be with a 373 gear
It's a good question. I wonder about this because the upper gears are overdrive so depending on how the transmission is programmed the end result might be quite similar but I've seen no real data on this.
When I look at the EPA numbers for the F-150 with it's wider range of axle ratio, did not see much of a difference. I don't recall any rated difference, but don't remember the details of testing.
On the 7.3 it was 1 mpg ish
I have a F350’XL STX , pretty much the same truck he is showing, with the 3.73 rear. I only have about 1100 miles on it, but have been running really close to what Andre was showing ; about 14 for short trips and about 16.5 on trips that are mostly highway with some country roads and some stop lights.
@@Chris-ut6eqOverdrive is a scenario in which the vehicle cannot reach top speed and in which it could only achieve top speed by downshifting.
In Murikan vehicle parlance, it means when the input and output shafts are connected, achieving a 1:1 gear ratio.
7th gear is 1.01:1
10th gear is 0.63:1
It can achieve top speed in any gear above fourth.
So refreshing to see the small center screen. Even better if you could delete that option.
Nice review and nice balance of useful amenities from a base truck (inflation is rediculous tho).
How large si the fuel tank 36gallons or 48 gallons?
same question?
Love that truck. I hope we get to see more of it with the other TFL personalities. Would be good to see the Ike gauntlet test to compare with the Godzilla tremor from a few months back to see if it’s worth the extra 40k
This is what we want! Thanks Andre!!
Eventually upgrading from my Ram 1500 to a 2500. Haven't decided between a manufacturer yet but really torn between Ram and Ford- my truck camper is 2200 lbs dry.
You’re currently putting a >2200lb camper in you 1500’s bed?
they make 1/2 tons with 3000lbs of payload now.
@ALMX5DP Yes, Running Bilstein 6112's up front, 5160s rear, timbren and Lt285/75r18s. Just fine, but on paper Im over my payload of 1860lbs.
Good informative video. Like the truck
This is what I like seeing. This would be a heck of a lot more capability than I'm coming from yet, simple enough to feel familiar 👍
I bet they sell a lot of these in
“Forest Service” green.
Wishlist for sure
I love trucks that still have the key ignition system.
Nice truck indeed. Only downside is the numerous recalls Ford has had over the years. Not a bad price for a new HD truck!
Needs push button start like ram, the whole key thing is dumb, plus side of the xl models is they can be remote started on the ford pass app.
This is one the best equipped xl I have seen. Asked my dealer for this same truck. ?? We’ll see
Are the hubs manual lock like the old days? Have to get out and turn them in by hand? I haven’t seen that in 25 years. Looks like old school manual hubs for the 4 wheel drive
Heavily considering an F250 after my jeep is paid off (won't be trading in). My build would be similar to this but in an extended cab. Luxurious trucks are nice but I'd have one that could do it all - tow, haul, camp, and comfortably haul my family, for less than $55k. If I want a massage, I'll go to a place that does that. Android auto, backup camera, power windows and locks and keyless entry is all I need.
