I NEVER MOW LOWER THAN 4 INCHES! MOW HIGHER FOR BETTER STRIPES!!

  • Mowing around 4 inches on a commercial mower is key to producing that nice deep stripe to a lawn. It also keeps your grass more resistant to drought. Another benefit to mowing a bit higher is that it keeps your grass less prone to developing diseases. Keep in mind I am mowing in Ohio so I am dealing with northern grasses that actually prefer to being cut higher. For example my favorite grass is Tall Fescue and the keyword there is tall because it prefers to be a bit taller. #lawncare #landscaping #mowing #lawncarebusiness #lawnlife #cuttinggrass #lawnmower #grass #grass #scag

That's great fer personal yardz but cutting weekly or biweekly @ 4"+ can git out of hand quickly if it rains get behind on schedule.
    Pretty yard tho 💪🏼

I totally get that man! I try to stay away from bi weekly mows. If they want bi weekly mows I charge around 50% more per visit. This is an every week account!

If cutting twice to get stripes to show, it is very possible to overwork the turf, especially bad for leaving tire tracks in the turf as well as creating tire ruts in the soil. I hit it one time with different cutting pattern the next mowing.

This yard is irrigated and fertilized and I’m cutting at 4.5 inches. I cut horizontally the week before and my stripes always were exposed after 1 cut. This customer doesn’t like many clippings in her yard that’s why I normally double cut or cut once and blow out the clippings

@GRASSNBASS If it is being irrigated, then the owner has more serious problems - fungus perhaps or over application of fertilizer. The other explanation for the "brown" grass would be excessive summer heat. For these customers, during the summer, I run the irrigation systems for 3 minutes per zone up to four times a day. This wets the grass, and the evaporation cools it, preventing the dead look. This is in addition to a normal deep watering schedule.

@@williamnewsome5169 you are spot on William! We have had dollar spot fungus in a lot of our yards as well as 2 weeks of 90+ heat!

@@williamnewsome5169 plus over fertilizing in extreme heat is hard on the grass. I do not do any fertilizing

i genuinely feel like anything over 2.5-3 looks terrible and it doesnt even look like its cut. people like you should advertise yourself as a lawn decorating business not a lawn care business.

Depends on the area of the country and grass. Temps as well. A true pro takes all thst into account and can have cuts ranginging from 2" to 4.5 in the usa.

I live up north in Ohio where grasses prefer to be cut higher. For example the grass called tall turf fescue likes to be cut tall lol but thanks for your recommendation 😂

That's WAY less than 4 inches!! Also, it looks okay, but that's nothing special. Just average work.

It’s 4.5 setting on my mower just looks crisp because cutting a bit higher makes those stripes pop!
