he brought the best of her and Blair brought Dan's cunning side, they were perfect together it would have kinda served as a life lesson to Blair on the tale of how Lonely Boy and Queen B fell for each other.
Rufus’s reaction to his son’s actions sucks. Anytime Jenny did anything wrong, even just being a bratty teen who didn’t want his waffles, it was always “I don’t even know who you are anymore.” When she and Vanessa ruined Serena’s life and she ended up getting drugged, he coldly dismissed Jenny but asked Dan to forgive Vanessa because HE missed having her around. Jenny definitely deserved punishment for that, but Rufus never held anyone else to that standard. Meanwhile, Dan blasts horrific information about his little sister (doesn’t matter if she sent in the tip, she was a minor and as her big brother he should have protected her), and Rufus flares up before immediately letting it go. With Dan it was always “I trust you to make the right decision.” Edit: I know it was Juliet and not Jenny who drugged Serena; Jenny was horrified by that and tried to make it right. But honestly that’s a pretty low bar (not approving of someone being drugged), and it doesn’t negate her posing as Serena to hurt Dan, Blaire, and Nate just because she thought Serena deserved to be taken down a peg. My qualm is with her father rightly calling her out for it (and for far less heinous acts) and letting others slide for equally horrid behavior.
Jenny seemed like a nightmare to parent and Rufus tried his best. You can’t honestly say Dan’s actions in the first few seasons were worse than Jenny’s. He was a good kid, Jenny was a defiant one.
Dan as Gossip Girl is a great story, but it’s too advanced for the writers to get right. Even if they had planned it since the beginning, they aren’t capable to get it right anyway.
I hate how people describe Dan as the "good guy" when he wasn’t at all. He abused his friends and family to make easy money, dated a lot of girls, and every time he acted like she was the love of his life, then got tired, cheated on her and passed on to the next girl. He slept with his teacher several times and started a gossip blog where he wrote the secrets of his friends, his girlfriend and his sister, pushing them to want to escape from town or kill themselves because they felt humiliated, And in all this he felt no remorse, rather went around judging everyone as if he was much better. I’m not saying the other characters were better, but at least they were aware of being bad and had interesting plots, Dan instead was a character terribly boring and annoying
