The Rosebuds *did* win, but most historians discount it due to the circumstances. At the time, the PCHA was using the Cup as its own internal trophy, in keeping with its original intended purpose as a challenge cup. Since the then-defending champions of the PCHA held the Cup, and Portland beat them on their way to ultimately lose the first modern-style Stanley Cup Finals to the NHA’s Montreal side, they *did* technically hold the Cup for the one week period between the PCHA finals and their ultimate loss to Montreal. Because of this, Portland, not Seattle, is the first American team engraved on the Cup, in the permanent section above the current barrel bands.

The renovation basically made it an entirely new building. They essentially treated that roof like a big tarp/tent and dug way down to make the whole place bigger and have streamlined cargo bays for event logistics to unload and load much more efficiently. Before there was one tunnel that a single semi had to back down to get unloaded one at a time. 🥵 Now, there’s 6!!

Mostly because Vancouver has the Canucks just 2 hours north. When Phoenix got their team the league was trying to expand into the southwestern areas after the Jets decided to move. So you saw teams like Dallas and Anaheim pop up as well. Florida didn’t have a team until 91 I believe then they got the Panthers in 96 and NC got the Hurricanes. Colorado didn’t even have a team until the mid 90’s. Before 1990 the NHL map was pretty much Canada, Los Angeles, Chicago and the northeastern part of America.

Bro the only thing that’s old about climate pledge arena is the roof. Only because the city made them keep it.

Great building, HORRIBLE location. If you know, you know. Should have been built near the other two stadiums.

CPA is not downtown. It's in the Queen Anne neighborhood.

"Located in Downtown Seattle"... No one in Seattle calls that neighborhood "downtown". It's in Lower Queen Anne or just call it Seattle Center.

saying "renovated" is a complete mischaracterization of what happened here. They demo'd an old arena and built an entirely new arena all while keeping the roof in tact which is a city landmark. The roof and some panes of glass are the only things that remain of the prior key arena.

This is Total BS. The building was completely rebuilt and majorly expanded at a cost of over a billion dollars. All that was really retained was the roof structure.

Everything under it was torn out. It's a new arena with an old roof.

Climate Pledge (Fund) as a sponsor for an arena has to be the most self righteous, pious, cheesy and nauseating name ever
