      Could you not clear Lacquer the edge up lightly or is it not possible? I have some water marks under the lacquer in very small places and thought I might be able to buff down with paste them mist them lightly with clear lacquer?

    The Recipe is: you need to wipe off every scratch with sand paper (I used for my deeper scratches 120(dry) > 320(dry) > 500(wet) > 800 (wet) > 1000 (wet) > 2000(wet) ), then polish it to 'mirror' effect with Autosol for Aluminium or Metal, degrease it and then spray it when it's completely dry. I suggest to use hands only. Do NOT use any machines for that because you can make it even worse. Alloy wheels are very soft.

    Done a good job removing the damage as it’s impossible to replicate the machine cut original but really should mention if you leave it like that it will start corroding instantly so it’s either keep polishing the rim or lacquer it. Diamond cut wheels can be a pain in the rear!

    Great result mate. I wished I watched this video earlier. I just paid £120 each for two diamond cut alloys on my bmw. The wheel company told me diamond cut alloys can only be repaired by a lathe machine hence it took 3 days in there body shop for them to do the repairs. Having watched your video now I now realise this can be done at home!

    • @dalerogers9376
      @dalerogers9376 2 роки тому

      I work in a body shop and still took my Mercedes wheels to a wheel company , the reason is they powder coat them. If you leave wheels like this they will corrode in no time, they can be lacquered like a car body but even that is not robust enough for wheels, the water eventually gets in under the paint and that’s when you see all those white powdery wheel about. You did the best thing trust me!

    Thank you for sending this along, I managed to curb my rims heavy. Alot of videos show how to fix curb rash, but not many work with diamond cut. Some have suggested after sanding down to use a clear coat paint to give some protection. I noticed you just used polish for yours. Can you give some advice on this?

    • @CCDVIDEO
      @CCDVIDEO  4 роки тому +1

      TheCoconutstrut i have mot clearcoated over mine and they are STILL doing just fine. I do however has a ceramic coating on my wheels, so after the refurb I just did another coat on that rim. You’ll see when you stary sanding you do actually remove a clearcoat type of layer

    Unfortunately without a coat of self etching lacquer this will dull off over a few weeks and oxidise, then need to be redone correctly. It's now bare metal, with any metals weather it be steel or alloy it needs a lacquer.

      Keiron Boshell it’s been 4 weeks and still looks the same as the day I did it. Thanx for your concern though

    • @MonsieurCrez
      @MonsieurCrez 4 роки тому

      @@squidgyblack3321 to be fair though, it will be easier to give them a quick polish to get the shine back, rather than having to strip down all the lacquer which ALWAYS seems to chip and get water under and drive corrosion - it's happened on all my deep dish wheels in under a year. I'm thinking about stripping them back and polishing like this, then when they start to corrode, give them a quick hand polish and good to go for another 6 months or so - can't be any worse that the usual bubbling cracking lacquer on diamond cut rims.

    • @Keiron79
      @Keiron79 4 роки тому +3

      Obviously it's your choice but the corrosion will eventually pit the alloy and a quick polish will do nothing. Car manufacturers spend millions of pounds developing lacquers and paints a reason. A professionally applied coat of self etching lacquer will only bubble if shipped just like the paint in your bodywork. If there's on clear coat then the chip is more than likely going to damage the wheel. Like I say your choice but as a qualified painter I think it's only fair others watching the video know the facts before stripping the lacquer on their own wheels

    You did a good job mate but it's impossible to polish out clear coat to blend with polished aluminium. I have to strip the whole surface and down as you did to the full face to avoid getting those ugly start stop areas in the clear. Then I clear the whole thing again so it doesn't just corrode.

      I did not, since my wheel setup ran some stretch, but if your tire sits over the rim, I would def deflate it
