hi Scotty I am thinking about buying a fiat renegade trailhawk cause I live in poor condition its all I can afford and I think I'm going crazy from all the german technology that I don't even own help
Looks like a garage cream puff.
Hi Scotty what Used Older SUV would you recommend? My son has a 2009 Nitron it's getting old and he doesn't have a lot of money for another vehicle. Thank You!!!!!
Did you say Rhode island Scott?
I took my F150 to a small Ford Dealership for some basic maintenance in a small town in Arizona. The shop manager came out and said there is some strange rust under the passenger floor. I went out and explain it was salt rust from when we lived in Michigan. The mechanics never saw salt rust.
I never heard of rust before a few years ago.
Michigan is where cars are born and where they die
nor had they ever walked thru the park & been a~salted either
I mean, if it was 1885 that would make sense. I trust most mechanics of the last 20 yrs have access to TV's, newspapers, magazines, radios, & of course the internet.
Perhaps word had gotten to them that perhaps 50% of all cars ever produced go on the roads in winter climates? There's pictures of rust they could look at & tons of footage.
I've never been to Jupiter, but I've seen its giant storm spot, because you know.....there's pictures of it.
I drove from Pittsburgh to Tampa once in the winter. When I got to Georgia, I stopped at a car wash where you can pressure wash your car on your own for cheap. Two men approached me with their truck and called me out. They were laughing at me and said “have you been bogging?” Huh? “Running around in the mud, off roading” they said. Oh no, this is salt.I told them. They were confused. You know, road salt…… For the snow and ice……. They helped me finish washing my Corolla. 😁
Somebody kept that in pristine condition. Kudos to them.
I had a 94 Grand Prix. It was a pleasure to drive. It had the same recall but it never had any ABS issues. Gave it to my son in 2000. He kept the car for another 8 years before going to an SUV. We both still talk about how nice that car was.
One of the things I remember about the older Grand Prixs was that they had no shortage of buttons (~50)... on the dash, steering wheel, center console. My friend had an ~89 and I think he did not know what half the buttons did.
My God this things immaculate. This should be in a museum.
This is DOHC 3.4L V6 from GM. It was among most powerful V6 at that time (215 HP). It was a fun to drive vehicle and handled quite well on country road (with Corvette type of transverse rear suspension). Mine had stick shift with 5 speed but heavy clutch. I loved the HUD (Head Up display) . Unfortunately for mine, it had injector leak and the crooked local mechanic destroyed my engine trying to fix it. I still liked it
Ex owner of a 99 grand Prix GTX by SLP here. Great, great car and one of the best on snow, that I've ever driven. The 3800 series 2 supercharged engine is a gem.
3800 is the best engine Made..
1940s...truck engine...my uncle worked GM engine plant Michigan....he was in Ww2...1917-2018...RIP uncle Ed
He is crazy. The transmissions were only as good as well maintained. The 3800 was one of GMs best cast iron bitches ever. Not so much of the 3.4. omg, he needs to get educated. The 98 Buick Regal with the 3800 beat the charts over the Camey as #1 car in road and track.
@@tri9398 the 3.8 were good motors the problem was GM did not upgrade the transmission to handle the extra torque the 3.8 made so it absolutely killed them especially if driven hard... if gm would have redesigned the trans or at least upgraded it to handle more power it would have been an excellent car.. the Pontiacs with the 5.3 v8 have the same issue..everyone I know that owns one has always had the trans rebuilt and upgraded to a stage 1 atleast to handle it..
@@tri9398 I don't care what road and track or any other car magazine says il take any year Camry over any year Buick Pontiac or any other gm product..Toyotas are proven..road and track based that off of comfort and hp figures.. not long term reliability..no magazine has any long term reliability reports because they dont have the vehicle's long enough to truly know the long term reliability of them..
Can’t agree more with the snow driving. I owned one. 1995. Best front wheel drive car hands down in the snow. I remember driving after we got hammered with two feet of snow one day and I was just plowing thru everything.
You , have no idea how much I wish that you were close by. I have been ripped off so badly by more than one business that bragged of good "mechanics" the last one cost me more than I had and I had to let it sit broken for 2 years and now I'm watching you and doing my own repairs. It's not always (ever) easy but at least I know the work is actually being done.
Get a mid 90's Ford Thunderbird! They are phenomenal vehicles at a phenomenal price point! (Only get the V8 Or SC model, the base model V6 is a slow turd)
I almost bought a 1992 Cougar with the V8, but decided on my Olds Trofeo. I was blessed, the guy who bought the Cougar, lived in my little town, lost it a month later when it burnt to the ground.
I want one
I loved my 95 v8 bird
hes so bias.....anyone that listen and believe what he say hes not right in is mind
Everyone i knew who had one beat the piss out of em. 3 people who ran from the police in em lol. You'd be better off getting a grand marquis from a granny
Very nice cars i remember i used to have same car same color, nostalgia came up . This cars were a tanks only oil change gas brakes and keep going . Nice video Mr Scotty
I had a black GTP with the supercharged V6 - it was a nice car
Twenty eight years old, looking that good, running that well? Nice!! Too bad Pontiac is no more.
My Dad had a '62 Chevy 2, later named Nova. It had a straight 6 with a stick shift and it got 21 miles per gallon on the highway!! Our Nissan Altima with all the bells a whistles just barely gets that on the highway if you drive conservatively. It runs perfectly. So much for new technology. 😋
My Altima, 2.5 liter 4 cylinders, gets 25 mph highway, after 185,000 miles and one transmission service
Did you know Novas had an explosion and fire risk? Not to mention it did really bad in crash ratings.
Scotty recommends not driving Nissans for the most part. I didn't discover his channel until well after I bought my Chevy Cruze too.
@@petenielsen6683 Well, too late. Ours is a 2012 model. But it's still in great shape. Can't afford to buy anything new. But ours isn't the only car I know of that doesn't get the mileage on a gallon of gas as advertised. But they never do.
Pontiac had some of GM’s nicest looking cars. I have a 05 grand prix bought new and has 161k miles and still runs great. Havent had anything major go wrong and plan on keeping it until the body eventually rusts out.
Inbox *📩..
But didn't Scotty juat say those were crap.
Not hatin cause I didn't day it.
Those 90's Grand Prix's were a radical departure from the Rear Drive V8's of the past.
@@extremedrivr .Yeah. I heard him say that too. I still see a lot of the last gen grand prixs around and I live in the rust belt. I have the 3800 V6 engine in mine and Im certain thats one of the best engines GM ever put out.
@@DB19736 Oh yeah it is absolutely. Very solid Buick V6 no doubt. I just wish Buick, and Cheverolet still used their own engines like the good ol days instead of sharing engines to try and save a buck.
@@extremedrivr Yep. I totally agree.👍🏻
Nice, real nice car Scotty! But not a good deal, a super great deal! I wish I could find one like that for $3K in the Northeast!
That Pontiac 6 cylinder had lots of power. I really liked my limited time in a rental with that engine. I was a teenager in the early '90's, and going up, probably the steepest hill I've ever gone up in a vehicle, that engine accelerated the whole way up. I was impressed, to say the least.
I had a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix GT…went through 5 transmissions & 3 engines under warranty. The day the warranty expired was the day I got myself a 2001 ford ranger 2.5 4x2 with a 5 speed standard, I drove it over 525000 miles until the Chicago rust got to it
The 4 cylinder 2.3 and 2.5 motors in the old rangers are beast for what they are..there not the most powerful or the fastest but with regular maintenance and somewhat responsible driving and they will last a long time..I've seen several after they finally go to the scrapyard with 500k plus on the clock
I remember these. 99.9% of these were in junkyards years ago. Same with the similar year Taurus SHO.
,🤣😂🤣
10:03 My first car was a 97 Tercel. 5 speed with 37 mpg on Highway. Got it close to 200,000 miles before I sold it for a 300zx. Wish I still had it now with today's gas prices.
They’re still cheap to buy though
When a car is that old, you can fix the ABS light with a piece of black tape.
athefumen ✅
My 94 Chevy Lumina Z34 had that 3.4 in her. It too had a rough idle but ran fine after you give it the gas. So it seemed. I had the injectors cleaned with the stuff in the can that the engine ran off of after you disconnected the fuel line at the engine and after you pulled the fuel pump fuse. After it was finished... ZOOM... super smooth idle and quicker. Good Luck

60k miles with 3 grand ? Holly hell that's superb
you believe everything he say? he so bias
@@sebg2086 ......what he said.
Look at the lack of plastic under the hood. How refreshing. Who would have thought a GM V6 from the 1990s would be a delight for the eyes.
good point
For a 94 it’s in excellent condition. You have to appreciate a car that was taken care for the age.
The a.b.s. problem is probably broken reluctor ring on the front axle. They Crack and spin on the half shaft...fixed several that did that-
You mean the ABS sensor on the wheel hub?
@@wannabeetiger no, the ring that spins on the axle. With teeth on it....

Old Pontiac's were solid and quick. 3600 a SOLID powerful engine. FUN to put in to and Fierro.
I have PTSD from so many Pontiac car breakdowns. I wish i knew about Toyotas back then.
Same, i've got PTSD from chevy, volkswagen, and jeep. Alot of money lost learning what crap cars they were before i got my toyota rav4
I had two bonnevilles that both caught on fire! I can relate to pontiac PTSD. 🤦🏼♂️🤣
@@potboy1734 Oh my. Thats terrible. Thats the one thing that havent happened to me.
I drove a 95 Pontiac Bonneville for many, many years before the engine finally blew. I loved it.
I had a Bonneville for my demo car. It was a nice car. You must halfway take care of yours.
The 1994 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP coupe with the 3400 (3.4 L) V6 engine and the original four-speed automatic were excellent vehicles back in the day. Now, they are still similar today. The newer Pontiac's were just falling apart, they were getting slower and they were breaking down constantly. Anyway, Mr. Kilmer can do a video on a 2005 Mitsubishi Endeavor 4WD mid-size SUV next.
I miss the old guitar intro!! It was soo good!!!!
"Pontiac, we build excitement " yeah way back when, but the newer ones are GM Garbage Motors
Afternoon Scotty!!!! Summer's here!
afternoon!
My sister bought a 96 gtp brand new, owned it for 15 years, never any trouble. Made a friend very happy to buy it from her, still being daily driven.
6:00 Scotty, you must also remember Stereo 8-tracks came years before cassettes were offered as OEM equipment.
I love when Scotty punches it on every car he checks
I look forward to when he punches it each time!
Its a good year because after 95 , the GMs with the 3400 and 3800
had problems with the intake gaskets leaking and the Whole Dex-cool problem .
I had a 1996 Monte Carlo and a 2000 Monte Carlo and although they both had the Intake gasket leaks I drove them both to over 225,000 miles before I sold them .
I hated the ABS anyway and just pulled the abs fuse out .
I owned a ‘94 Chevy Corsica - same platform, motor, etc - and I maintained it immaculately. It had a cracked head by 70K miles and the transmission exploded at 85K miles. The paint peeled badly despite regular washing. It had more issues and cost me far more in repairs than any other vehicle I’ve ever owned in my 45 years of car ownership.
I got a 06 Grand Prix 150k still runs great. Always wanted a 90s Grand Prix McLaren edition or the GTP model
The existence of this car debunks Scotty's rant about these cars being nothing but junk. I've had nothing but J-Body cars for the last 17 years between Cavalier's And Sunfire's and they're extremely reliable cars...I've passed up both Toyota's and Honda's brken down on the side of the road many a time. Believe me there are many many many of these cars still on the road today.....you can also work on these kinds of cars yourself...very straight forward and easy to repair.
What kind of Pontiac is in this video ?
Possibly the best and most reliable car I ever owned was a 1990 Pontiac Grand AM
@@lilremesses5418 Grand prix
@@lilremesses5418 It's a 94 Grand Prix
I think Scotty has said these older model cars were very well built. It's the newer cars with all the new bells and whistles that are poorly constructed as well as designed according to Scotty.
i got bought a 2004 pontiac grand prix gt ,,guy said would not run for 800.00 had 150,000 miles in really good shape ....put a cam and crankshaft sensor in , new plugs ,,,runs like new , ac blows cold ...use it for a work car has 239,000 on it now ,,, still runs excellent ..!!!!

Customer: “Scotty my car is running rough, doesn’t idle right.”
Scotty: “I’ll take a look at it.” Proceeds to blow the carbon out of the motor.
Customer: Scotty the car runs great, what was wrong with it?
Scotty:
Grand Prix and Sunfire were little hotrods. Almost died in a sunfire going to texas jam 1982
Messed me up for life
Hey Scotty wiggle the abs line by each wheel! I’m pretty sure one or more of the wires to the wheel in the front has a break in wire..
They’re known for that especially cuz the front tires turn the wire gets cracked.. exposing internal copper
Just pull the abs bulb out you’ll never see it again
They even had heads up display back then. Who knew?
First gen Altimas had em too. Pretty cool for almost 30 yes ago
I used to own a 1994 Corvette convertible, 6-speed manual, that got 30 mpg on the highway. It was a lot of fun to drive and very reliable.
I really miss the HUD in my late 90'sGrand Prix - that was such a great safety feature. You never need to take your eyes off the road. Had to sell it to get a minivan when the kids came along. : (
Lol @ the minivan! The HUD was a neat feature.
Our kids never know the sacrifices we make for them, I had to sell my 3ltr Alfa Romeo GTV6 when mine came along 😂
I have never seen HUD in real life. Did Scotty even mention it? Why did this feature not become standard across all makes and models?
@@tolpacourt I don’t recall if he pointed out Heads Up Display for this video or if it was for another Pontiac. It was a decent feature, I suppose. I don’t recall GM using HUD once Pontiac turned to dust.
@@tolpacourt It's like a teleprompter so only the driver can see it from where they are sitting. You can see it at 6:15 where he calls it a "windshield speedometer". But it showed more than just speed (at least on the Grand Prix). Many things that you can change, or alerts, would pop up in the HUD like turn signal indicators, changing the radio station, low fuel warning, fuel guage, brights-on, etc. It was super cool and I was shocked that it fizzled out. Now you can buy 3rd party HUDs that you plug into the OBD port and lay on your dash to reflect all sorts of info, with graphics and color, on the windshield. But it looks ugly laying on the dash. I miss my Grand Prix.
Just recently found a 2001 Chevy Cavalier 2dr. coupe with 48,000 km,s in Ontario Canada for $2,000. It passed the safety inspection needing zero repairs.
I'd daily drive that car.
I loved my v6 grand prix and grand am. Fun cheap cars that handled like a dream. Got 300,000 miles out of Both with all original equipment
TRY changing the back plugs, I bet THEY have now been changed in a long time. Hence the stumble
There are countless cars for sale under $3K. Want to know another car maker with lots of recalls affecting millions upon millions of cars? Toyota. Some of them including things like brakes don't work and caused crashes killing people.
That car is in phenomenal condition for a 30 yr old car. It was very looked after, and kept in a garage. You can tell immediately. Its very sharp the 30 yr old paint is in great shape!
I’m getting over the reality that that 94 is old school now. This was high school for me. That car is museum worthy in its physical condition.
I replaced all the lines with stainless lines, and threw the ABS garbage away. Now it's the best braking it's ever been.
If I want to lock them up and go sliding in the snow, I can, just like it should be.
I think ABS is for people that don't know how to drive.
that heads up display was, and is my fave thing GM did
You can buy a car where I am in Michigan as long as it was kept clean and had the salt washed off it before it causes corrosion, just gotta find the things
My first Pontiac was a 1970 GTO. 5 color custom paint based on a upgraded Judge stickers. I sure miss it and still have old pictures of her.
I have a soft spot for Pontiac.
That was my favorite domestic car during my high school years
My daily driver, 2007 Pontiac G5 GT. 173 HP four cylinder automatic. No engine or transmission issues. Have had to repair control arms and related wheel underbody items due to Chicago potholes though.
you can get a 2002 honda accord for under 3k with about 200,000 mi on it honda last forever the older the easier to fix
There is a one owner 2000 Buick Regal GS with factory supercharger up for sale in my area for $2900, it has 159,000 miles. It's a clean southern car.

Scotty is driving up the price of used Pontiacs, first the Vibe (Toyota), now this.
I had a 2002 Grand Prix with the 3.1 V6 it had 120,000 on it and drove for two years with blown head gasket, just put the bars stop leaked in and away I went. When I got rid of it, it still ran.
I miss my old Grand Prix GT. It was a 1993, super clean, and in the light blue. Super cool car and I only blew the head gasket once driving it like a 16 year old kid does lol. I sold it and it got t-boned a week later.
28yr old car will always pale compared to modern cars. Back in the day ABS was a big deal, and those Pontiac’s were the thing for big sporty sedans. Toyo recently recalled millions for airbags and stuck accelerators.
I miss those old cars like that. They were pretty alright, especially if you took care of it. Nice floaty rides. My GF used to have a 2012 Chevy Cruze. What a pile of junk. Build quality like that should just be illegal to make, total cheap plastic garbage. She finally listened to me and drives a Civic. Wow, no problems. What a concept.
Very similar to the 1992 Chevy Beretta..had that back in the 90's....was a good car I never broke down ..good on gas..it was blue
I like how he's always gotta floor every car he gets into
Late 90's GM cars were really solid. Those old Buicks could be pushed to their limits almost everyday & still fire right up the next morning
I had a '94 in 1998.....dark teal green....it was nice....very cool looking car with the spoiler on the trunklid.
The only problem with it was faded peeling clearcoat. On a 4 year old car? 😳
And the alternators would go bad from engine heat.
Other than that, fun car to drive.
Had many Pontiacs since 1964 thru 2005 with no problems. Great cars.
I recently sold my late parents 94 Bonneville SSEi with 42k for 2thou. The car was mint, forest green with a tan leather interior, everything worked perfectly. Sad to see it go, but it was the practical thing to do. When my parents bought it, the price was close to 60 thou. It’s now at a new home and the owner loves it.

I love my old Pontiac. I drive a 1990 Bonneville. Solid built car. 3800 V6 engine. 346K miles. Still a daily driver. Not very nice looking anymore like this one is here.
My son has a 97 Grand Prix GT 3.8 red coupe. All I can say is buy a scam tool and know sone basic automotive. This car is a pain in the rear. We replaced the 3.8 with a rebuilt one, sensors replaced and it still shows need service. I need to take it to Scotty or if anyone knows a really good mechanic in NYC, I would appreciate it.
A scam tool is probably a good thing that have. Avoid all those scams out there
@@ampecsu good one you saw my spelling error but in hindsight I should have had a scam tool when I bought the car for him. Unfortunately I didn’t know Scotty back then
@@HotRod-wv4vm Hahaha yea the scam tool would have been much more useful than the scan tool.
My early 2000s Buick Limited also had ABS system problems, but the reason was the weight of the V6. It was too heavy a car for how weak the ABS was. I loved that car since it was the only mechanical issue, but the rust through on the unibody was automatic inspection failure. So my current car I got Zeibart. This is Upstate New York and there is a reason Syracuse is the Salt City.
Have a look at most manufacturers. 90’s were the decade that quality and engineering was paramount. Then onto the 2000 and even worse, 2010’s. It was all about profit and making things cheap. Still daily my Jaguar S type 2000 and it has racked up 250.000 miles no major issues. Things like the sunroof is acting up. AC needs a refill. I’m in Sweden with freezing summers so no sweat either way. ;) Those things. 22 year old car that drives amazingly. It looks like it’s 5 years old by today’s standards.
I just bought a 93 Buick park Avenue 3.8 in cherry condition cost me 6 k great deal on the Pontiac.
Good luck buddy.
I had a 93 Pontiac Grand AM, and it had a 4 cylinder engine, the ABS was almost as big as the engine! I gave it the name Wimpy, because at the time I also had a 84 El Camino with a 305 and four barrel carb.
From 6:03, I can beat that! I'm so old that my 1st car had a 8 track tape player in it! I need a laughing horse emoji! lol
Same 🐴
Im 29 but i remember watching tv and they were testing that auto drive crap in the early 2000s. And now i seen the heads up display on a 94. This is old tech
These videos are even more relevant now then the last 5 years with everyone buying so many used older cars nowadays
Facing financial problems and restructuring efforts, GM announced in 2008 that it would follow the same path with Pontiac as it had with Oldsmobile in 2004. It would discontinue manufacturing and marketing vehicles under the Pontiac brand by the end of 2010. The last Pontiac-badged cars were built in December 2009, with one final vehicle assembled in January 2010. Franchise agreements for Pontiac dealers expired on October 31, 2010,[4] leaving GM to focus on its four remaining North American brands: Chevrolet, Buick, Cadillac, and GMC.

My first truck had an 8 track player! 😂
I was selling Pontiacs in the early 90’s. Not bad looking cars. As I recall, however, the mechanics loved the Grand Prix because the head gaskets would blow around 60K and the customer & GM would split the repairs. They’d have ‘em fixed in about half the time “the book” stated.
I never cared for Pontiacs, but I have to appreciate how well maintained this car is. Thing is 28 years old and looks new. When I was in high school these things were everywhere, now you hardly see any.

I remember 8 track tape player in a Chrysler Cordova...LOL

Pontiacs were great cars, GMs sporty division however at one point they made them silly with over blowen hood scoops, wings, spoilers, decals etc, then they finely started making them look good a few years later they were gone
At the end of the video Scotty says to stay away from late model Pontiacs, like the last 4 or 5 years. But from what I've heard those G8s were very good cars!
That's one of the cleanest looking Grand Prix's I've seen. Wow!!
I like the what you said about the gas mileage. My brother had a late 80s to early 90s can't remember the exact year. He got around 40 MPG. Was a 4 cylinder, manual tranny, manual brake and manual steering. He could smoke the tires too. Lol But he also was a "master" at doing burnouts!
