WOW! Great video! I just saw this now. Do you mind if I link your video in the description of my Etsy listing just so people can have another reference video if they need help with the install? Your video is so detailed.....
I just used the original foam shaved down a bit, added a firmer layer of foam then a piece of card. Then replaced the original rubber on top with thin foam and foam on side sensors when putting back together and it works great now even with hands. Just don't make it all too thick. Good to know in the case you can't access a wood replacement
Tried it myself, my first time modding something and I was pretty anxious while doing it but thankfully I managed to do it flawlessly without damaging something, this tutorial really helped thank you.
I had to buy some new screws because one came stripped, but once I bought some more and followed this video, I got it all setup. This video was very straightforward and simple to follow. Thank you!
A little note for the ones that use the brandless one: It won't gonna work for you. The shape and form of function is totally different from original tatacon and you need to do serious modding to the controller to get something similar
So uh… is there a certain way to disconnect the smaller wires or what? Like do you pull on the wires themselves or some part of the white pieces? I can’t quite tell where you were pulling.
Everybody use cork board only or wood i used for don - cork board + cartonbox + double side tape only one side untape and the tape i use for ka too and cut and now work very well
woa!!! surprising to see a rhythm game related video on this channel! taiko is amazing, im yet to try it with the drum though! if i could ask, are you into any other rhythm games?
In recent years this is the only one I've been into. I used to have all the stuff for Guitar Hero and Rock Band but once it started going over a year without being used, I sold it all. Also occasionally fire up Audiosurf, love that one.
@@MrMario2011 I 100% get your point with RB/GH, i have all of the stuff too while i do pull it out sometimes, i don't use it a ton. Taiko & audiosurf are still great rhythm games.
Hi all, I have quite an issue. I have bought a brand new Hori drum and tried to improve the sensitivity of the don's and the ka's, following step by stem the guide with the Ikea cork pot holder for the don's and the soft black thin sticker patches for the ka's, ignoring the step with the little holes filling. I have done evrything very carefully, market the cables, taken photos, and re-assembled everything perfectly. Now, the drum is still receognized, all the buttons of the front pad area are all fully fuctionning, but... the don"s and the ka's seem to be completely dead! They aren't working at all, whatever how hard the drum is hit. I have then: first: replaced the cork pot holder and by the original foam and re-tested: same result. Then, removed all the little black soft stickers on the ka's : same result. The crazy part is that if I press the home menu, get back to the game, and press the drum don's area to exit the automatic pause menu: the don is then recognized! And it is recognized anywhere I hit, which means that, at least both left and right don"s areas aren't dead at all. But this is the only way that the don's are recognized. I can't tell for the ka's as they aren't recognized at all. I have checked the cables, connections and everything looks fine, nothing seems to be broken, damaged or touching be geeting in contact with another connection. I haved tried to re-open/test it about 5 times now. My fingers are on fire (due to the part where the top part needs to be removed) and the results are always the same. The drum is now exactly the way it was before being opened but still doesn't want to get the don's and ka's to work. Did anyone experienced something similar ? Any test/fix I could try? Thank you in advance for your help!
I wouldn't be the optimal player for that, in all honesty, and I no longer have the original foam inserts. I can at least say from experience that it is indeed more accurate and returns more to that feel you would get from one of these drums in the arcade.
I can say you the switch drum maybe ps4 and other version i dontknow if have same issue but when you buy the switch for me was unusable beacuse i must hit the drum sooo hard to make any button press that mean you need that mod
@@MrMario2011 Yeah, I know you're still new to the game and all, but I just trust your opinion with how thoroughly you always test and explain things in your videos. Keep up the good work 🙂
If you want to adjust the rim sensitivity, you can get a 1mm thick rubber sheet and cut tiny strips to stick onto the Ka (rim) sensors. That would increase the sensitivity on them, just seems you have to be strict on placement.
Same! The original parts I've seen are using laser-cut plywood. I haven't tried the cork so I don't know how it feels, but I think people use it because you can cut it with scissors and not because it feels better than the wood. According to reddit, wood is bouncier and cork is quieter. I think the wood is probably better, so I've decided to print the insert out of PETG.
Hi! I tried modding my hori drum, but when i put it back together the left don side stopped working, but when i took out the mod it worked again. Did i do something wrong?
It could have been something with the connections when you put it back together the first time? This is simply a piece of wood, so it wouldn't disable a part of the drum just by being placed in there.
I feel so anxious to do it myself with mine!! The replies are so positive abou how better it gets after doing this mod; but I have one question: what type of wood is that replacer made of? And the thickness (mm)?
Seems like a lot of work, with potential for pitfalls, and a conclusion that's not certain to improve your game. I'd be careful about this. I thought it'd be an easier process, but this video does not make me feel good about that. I do appreciate the view, however.
Understandable, personally I noticed a nice difference before and after performing the mod. The hardest part for me was some finger pain getting the top part of the drum off and back on, but since you only do that once it wasn't too bad.

Aw, what?! That would be an honor, the biggest compliment is when a developer compliments and shares my video. I have no issue with this, thank you 🤗

The cons were hurt thumb and index finger
That's no joke, I did two of these and it is ROUGH on the fingers, but thankfully easy enough!

Glad this helped!
Whoa this is awesome!! I've been a huge taiko fan for a while now.
The ps4 version is really cool it has 3D Don and faster load times
The original foam makes a great stress toy!
LOL AMAZING
Worth mentioning there's also a sensitivity mod for the Ka sensors too
Got a link to it?

I've modded mine the same way but it didn't increase the sensitivity at all whats the problem
amazingf tutorial! super easy to follow
Happy to hear that!

Oh wow, just what I needed, bought one recently and the sensitivity has been kinda off on one side of the rim, I think I'll try this)
Give it a shot!
Could you make a comparison video showcasing the drum with and without the mod? I would really like to see that.

Thanx Master ❤️
I could probably make this myself for a few quids, what's the thickness of the wooden insert you got? I'd assume it's the same as the foam insert?
Is the drum noisier after the mod? I’d imagine it is… probably worth it if the accuracy and feel is improved though!
About the same I'd say?
Thanks for the information. This seems like it would only help with drum sensor sensitivity and not the rim. How was that changed or not by this mod?
If you want to adjust the rim sensitivity, you can get a 1mm thick rubber sheet and cut tiny strips to stick onto the Ka (rim) sensors. That would increase the sensitivity on them, just seems you have to be strict on placement.
Does this improve rim hitting too? I just got a hori drum and not too happy withe sensitivity.
I got one and it's dreadful. I modded mine and its still useless to play with imo and required pressing the sticks into the drum instead of hitting 😭
@@kevinwoolford123 you modded yours and the sensitivity is still bad? People seem to be satisfied with it...
Thank you daddy taiko
Once I get that foam im spraying it blurple and making it the discord logo
hmm so i could use the foam to trace it on a piece of plywood and cut it myself.
If they weren't so expensive I'd totally pick up a taiko force lv5 (kinda unrelated to the vid ik)
Yo, but those look incredible.
@@MrMario2011 taiko force lv5's are the real deal
Do you know if this mod is applicable to the Dobe and IINE chinese drums?
i'm actually interested to see how i'd go with a TPU 3d printed part.

can you also do it without replacing the foam part?
The goal here is to replace the foam part.
I feel so anxious to do it myself with mine!! The replies are so positive abou how better it gets after doing this mod; but I have one question: what type of wood is that replacer made of? And the thickness (mm)?
I'm no woodsmith so I can't accurately answer that, but that would be a good question for the author on his sale page!
is this 1mm thick?
Make video with mode pay please
I'm so broke. Rips.
