I am portuguese native speaker that speaks spanish as a second language and english as a third language
It is so unbelivable see that you put the articles "Lo and La" 100% CORRECTLY and your native language (chinese) does not have articles like english so it must be difficult to use portuguese or spanish articles correctly. It is so amazing.
The only thing that make us realize that you are a foreigner is your pronunciation speed, usualy in portuguese and spanish we speak so fast. But your pronunciation is perfect so I gotta say you are very smart.

Whats truly awesome about this man is he changes voice tones when he switches language! Which not many foreign language teachers teach you. Great catch!

Hi Phoenix, thanks for sharing. A lot of useful information. I just want to point out one thing, the Belgium speaks Dutch and French, not German and French. The north part of Belgium was part of the Netherlands before, that is why they speak Dutch. But they may call it flamish. The differences between Netherlands Dutch and Belgium Dutch is bit like mainland Chinese vs Taiwanese Chinese.

It’s just unbelievable, that your American accent is so great! I am from indonesia speaking Indonesian as my native, English, Spanish, learning Portuguese now because my partner is Portuguese and thinking of mastering Arabic or Chinese language( I had a Chinese class when I was kid). I have to say, to some extent , it’s not easy to master a new language, I am pretty much skeptical with most of polyglot videos, especially on UA-cam. It took me at least 2- 5 years to master a new language, of course depending on certain aspects. However, I think your fluency on your videos is convincing and honest.

Yeah, I was going to say, he has only a faint accent in English. I'm not sure I would have picked up on it if I hadn't known that he was born in China and is a native speaker of Mandarin.

Ugh, you're so eloquent and thoughtful in your replies, it's evident that you're widely read.
I feel you on the boring hobbies, whenever someone asks me I reply "I study Korean" and then there's the awkward silence of "That's it?" And I'm like "DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH EFFORT IT REQUIRES TO LEARN A LANGUAGE?" (the greatest effort being that you're constantly tempted to buy alllll the books)

Awesome video! I find myself picking up Chinese words in context because I know some Korean and Japanese and recognize commonalities when coupled with English subtitles. Very motivating video, so I think I will study when I get home today!

I am a Tibetan, I've been a fan of your videos for a while. I love different cultures and languages, I see so much beauty in it. I speak Tibetan, Mandarin and English. I'm learning French atm, and would love to learn Spanish and Japanese in the future. I remembered you mentioned in another video that you're interested in Buddhism as well, any interests learning Tibetan - people say it's the language that opens the door to Buddha Darma wisdom. haha. So awesome you are learning Uyghur as well, keen to hear more of your learning experience! Scott Young has a theory of "Ultra Learning" a new language where you literally soak your brain in the target language for 3 months and you'll achieve daily communicational level, thought it might interests you as well. Cheers.

I'm from Austria and I'm currently trying to learn Spanish, Chinese and French in school at the same time. Emphasis on trying.
I've been learning French for one year longer though.
Looking back, I wish I wouldn't have taken that many language courses at once. Because it's kind of frustrating to not be able to immerse myself into the languages fully, more often than not.
However, I am grateful for the opportunity to built a strong basis for language learning already. In the end I have my whole life to properly study languages.
Additionally it's the holidays right now. It's the first time I am studying on my own and it actually turned out to be more comfortable for me than studying in and for school.

I've been learning Japanese for years as a hobby, but 敬語 and ビジネス日本語 is something else. I want to be able to use my language skills in my career too, but not sure how to motivate myself to learn that stuff or read boring textbooks..
Ps. Your eloquence makes this video so useful for Chinese listening, I find myself rewatching it for the second time. So if you're not sure whether anyone would watch your Chinese videos, here I am.

It's fascinating how "familiar" Uyghur sounds to a German person, since Turkish is so prevalent here and both languages share an early common root. I just love that stuff, just like when my wife has a conversation in Korean, I can piece quite a few things together through Japanese (and thus sometimes Chinese) cognates like

I’m an Indonesian and I’d say I’m pretty good with English language, however I’m trying to learn Chinese. In my environment unfortunately Chinese isn’t used, and I find difficulty trying to find people I can talk in daily basis in Chinese to practice. Also, I’m confused how to start learning Chinese as I’ve learnt it a little during middle school, bu I’ve forgotten some if not most of the vocabularies I’ve learnt. I did try to take private classes but it didn’t really improve my Chinese much, maybe because I’m a quite forgetful person. Do you have any advices for me?

I am just wondering. Do we need to learn to read and write if the goal is just to speak the language?

    • @phoenixhou4486
      @phoenixhou4486  2 роки тому +3

I would consider it necessary because you’d be significantly dwarfing your channels of input if you don’t learn to read or right. You wouldn’t be able to use tools like dictionaries to self correct, you wouldn’t be able to take notes. My guess is that you would be able to achieve some level of fluency if you have an infinite amount of time.
