I love seeing this videos so much but damn am I ready for a cheap build that doesn't come down to "My family member did this specific skilled work for me for free" 😭
Where did we say we had family members do free skilled labor for us? We learned through reading, watching videos and asking questions and then finally doing it. Building picture frames was the first woodworking project we took on. It's a great intro to using a screw gun, making cuts on the chop saw and dealing with angles. Did we borrow tools along the way? Absolutely, but who wouldn't if they had the opportunity. It's one less reason to head all the way into town! You might be surprised what you can get done with a simple tool set, some lumber and a goal.
@@thehohnstead I just watched a great video of Brian May relating how he and his dad made a guitar from scratch with items around the house. Having a sawmill doesn’t mean a big company type of mass production sawmill! It can be just another piece of equipment! It’s not uncommon to have one in families living in forests. 💛
@@jensherman2771 I know right? It's literally a small gas engine (probably the same one in a lot of riding lawn mowers) that spins a band saw blade on a track. It's not the nuclear reactor that some folks are trying to make it out to be lol.
When you trade the plexiglass to wavy make sure to run it vertical as it will stay much cleaner. Dirt and mold rests on it if it’s horizontal. Love the pulley system wall / roof. And the car things for the window. It’s given me ideas for my off grid alternative home. Thank you greatly. Love what you’ve done.
Your videos are so smooth, professional and enjoyable. I've come upon a couple you tubers who talk so much about random stuff and move the camera around aimlessly. The homes they show are cluttered and they barely let the owner speak. It's very painful to watch. I have to mute it and fast forward to get it moving along. It drags. One tiny home was gorgeous. Your videos are truly awesome and enjoyable. Sorry for venting here.
Would be great if the bed in the A frame was on wheels so you could push it out onto the deck in good weather and have more space. Maybe have a collapsible table you could put up when it's outside. Also In hot weather have a cover to put on the plastic screen so you have more shade on hot days if the trees don't give enough protection from the sun.
Thank you for the great content of your great channel 💯 these cabins are just awesome 👍 I just wished we had more price accessible land * nothing out of the ordinary _ just enough for a small cabin with small land size ❤
I like that property. I really appreciate Garrett's explanation of the cost and materials of each structure. Alla looks like she could be Debbie Harry's (Blonde band) daughter. 😄

what about bathrooms for the cabins? at least a toilet and a small sink (with roof). If its raining or freezing or late at night, having to go outside to the common bathroom is not for everyone...
They won't (nor have they in our 14 years here). They are curious creatures but with the amount of people and dog traffic we have here, it doesn't make sense for them.
I never heard of the term "glamping" before this video. Looked it up and I can see why. Outdoor camping, RV-ing and the like have never interested me. However, I can see the attraction. Who knows? Maybe with this one video exposure, I'll try it in the future.
Winters are typically very snowy BUT sunny. As far as the wildlife, mostly deer and wild turkeys. Elk from time to time. The occasional curious and harmless black and brown bears. We've only seen mountain lion maybe three times on the property in 14 years and that was an exotic treat. Such an elusive and majestic animal! Ah, wildfires and not wildlife. Yeah, fires sucks. We do regular clearing to take out small and sickly trees. Burn in the spring and fall. We have a small fire truck. We do the best we can and hope for the best.
I wondered that too - but assumed that most people are coming during summer. The cabins reminded me a bit of alpine huts, because of the beautiful nature surrounding it 🏞️ and their simplicity. But those are bigger (often for 20-30 people) and have a real fireplace 🔥so it's toasty warm in winter. They have the full package for a holiday if you like mountains - beautiful views, infrastructure (snowlifts, hiking paths wherever it's possible to walk, someone clearing the snow on Sundays even in the remote villages) skiing ⛷️,... I personally would prefer a bit more isolation in the walls, a way to heat them, and a bit more space (to cook and eat, play boardgames when it rains ☔🤗).
Do you use no dig method and mulch your garden with wood chip? That would improve the soil. Also have you considered an agroforest garden in a small scale?
Yes! We are slowly building up our soil with permaculture techniques (hugel stuff, comfrey, cover crops, etc). This was filmed in early June. We had a winter weather advisory June 15th (couldn't plant most everything until after that). The garden is currently looking great!
So beautiful, so peaceful, cozy place to enjoy long weekend or even couple of week vacation IT detox. Those mesmerizing views are worth of 1M EUR Postal card ;-)
Nice video, thanks, it always surprises me though that you provide information on how to live cheaply and effectively off grid and then you have sponsors showing hugely expensive items, like this Jackery power supply. I can put in a solar system and battery for one eighth of the price of a jackery. I understand that you want the Jackery for your own use, but couldn't you promote items that are more appropriate to your viewers? Other cheaper solar systems work just as well and would be of much more use and interest to us. It just seems like you're 'selling out' to the rip-off companies.
the actual financial working mechanism here is inheriting pristine land, having access to expensive tools and skilled instruction, and finally renting glamping cabins on airbnb. these are not buildings most people could sustainably live in for more than a few weeks. they are hotel rooms. nicely made, tho.
Affordable cabin builds......because land is free of course! And you can't get a mortgage for land, that I know of. Either way, you buy something, a lot of money is exchanging hands, and the banks profit. Bottom line. Nice video and builds though. Thanks.
Hey i can build a whole house for a grand if i have land with trees and my dad has a saw mill. Why are you living without plumbing if you've got that kind of hookup?
Been there, done that (in the 1970's). In the end it doesn't work. Recycled materials inevitably rot and disintegrate and you have to start all over. So while all this looks sparkly and brand new, I note you don't show the place many years down the line where civilisation has appeal again.
