They're supposed to be a fairly good substitute. I actually tried to make them once. Not really a success... Grilling them instead of microwaving them would have helped, though.

@@sitinthebit2089Because in the middle of a Phoenix summer, you try really hard to avoid heating up the kitchen/ house. Microwaving them for a short time gives the same effect as if they were steamed.

Which is practically every vegetarian and vegan out there lol. They won't eat meat but they'll go to great lengths to make their food taste like meat. If you're craving meat, your body likely needs the nutrients from meat specifically. And yes, you can get iron and protein from a few select plant foods, BUT- it won't be in the same form. For instance, meat has heme iron in it, but plants have non-heme iron. Same with proteins and other nutrients. There are some things in meat that your body really needs in order to stay truly healthy, that plant foods just don't have and will never have; just like there are some nutrients in plant foods that your body really needs that meat will never have. You honestly need both to stay healthy and balanced for the long term. For all the vegetarian naysayers, look it up.
