I like the look of the 3-door Mégane from that era, more than I ever could the Clio.
265 Rs type R flies !!! Insane .. I Had 2 wrx but 265 eats them and most other cars don't know about this 250 ..
Clio's are more fun though
@@samconnolly7732 nah
What an incredible Megane, i'm sure the new owner loves it. Marcus certainly knew what he wanted and it is the ultimate hot hatch.
One. We're not on the nurburgring and two, im not 75kg. Haha 😂 dying
#itstrue
Quality😂👍
Congrats James on finally finding a car with a seat that isn't too high for your liking (one day you'll find that sweet spot). And thanks for producing such eclectic and interesting videos.
That's an hardcore track car. I imagine its terrible to drive on the road, but review it again ON TRACK.
You need to review one of these in standard guise on the road and I guarantee you'll like it.
The standard car is terrible on the road as well.
@@Joe-qc2fw the non cup rs is quite ok on the road and you can get a rebuilt lsd gearbox for 800 pounds.
@@Joe-qc2fw I've owed one and they're perfectly fine in standard form. Admittedly I lowered it and it kind of robbed alot of the comfort.
Jayzcee Graham did a pros and cons review on one of these on road
@@Joe-qc2fw bollocks.
these had one of the best steering rack/feel of any FWD cars though, Chris Harris had even mentioned as good as the Porsche once, so perhaps the previous owner did something to it part of the modifications done.
Drive a stock-ish one, you'd love it, speaking as an RS250 owner with a tune and exhaust
Stock ones have the same issues mate, I own one
@@Joe-qc2fw You seem to be the only person I've heard of having an issue with the standard car on public roads. They are fucking brilliant on a b-road.
I love that. Looks great and as a former RS Megane owner I can tell it’ll be a beast to drive
You put the V into variety, so much fun wondering whats coming next !
I enjoy keeping people guessing!
I enjoy them so much, it might be me!😳
Actually found the build video by chance, very cool watching this come along.
best megane rs i saw the built on instgram
That's a serious looking car, hopefully you can enjoy it for a little while now!
To summarise : If you want a Megane RS, don't go for a hardcore one except if you are extreeeemely commited to track !
Yeeep
I just bought an 2011 RS250 cup trophy. All standard, lovely car, and you are right 250-300hp is more than enough, I don't even feel like it needs a tune or more power because its plenty of power for the STREET. relatively comfy and quiet (19inch spec). Drive a standard one on the street and you will be very impressed@
That is one of the blackest black out style cars I have seen! All it needs is smoked headlights and black brake calipers. Nice car. Yep cars very cheap here in U.K at moment and eveyone buying SUV/CUV. I’m just gonna part exchange mine come sale day in year or 2.
Anyone who runs "smoked headlights" needs their head examined and their car burned.
A very sharp looking car. We don't have Renault in Canada. Or Peugeot, etc. Being in Canada, when it got to the shot with the motorcycle starting around the corner, I near spit out my hummus, as we drive on the other side of the road, I, for a split second thought a header was imminent!
Jay, I love your work. My first video was the Venturi. Love it when someone actually has a chance to review odd ball Euro cars. Please, please do an old school Maserati, Ghibli II or any 90’s Maserati. Cheers
I'd love to, may be able to next year
21:37 "We're looking at you B7 TMY!!!!!"
That youtuber is so Essex.
I love the Renault Sports especially my Williams Clio. On a tight twisty road there an absolute joy. For the track buy an elise/exige or a Caterham. The steering feel and ability to go around a track is next level.
Great vid! Love the car.
Good review telling us what the weak points are as well
Awesome, thanks for the first part
The Spec-list looks like a book. Holy Shift! - Project car gone right - money gone :-D
A shame all the things you found annoying in this car is what other reviewers love about the stock version. Really looking forward to your review of an unmodified Meg 3 RS. Keep up the good work.
Nah these things mostly all apply to the stock version as well.
You'll need to elaborate there Joe.
I own one. Terrible daily. Not fun unless driving at 10/10ths, which you can’t do on the road. There are better cars for track anyway
@@Joe-qc2fw Interesting. Not sure which variant you have but I find the RS275 amazing to live with.
A James You can’t be serious. I have an RS265 Cup (had both standard and Recaro seats) and it’s far from “amazing” to live with. Tell me, what do these Meganes have to offer that sets them apart from other alternatives?
I would love a Megane RS, however, my only issue would be it's redline. There is just something I enjoy about a high revving trackday car.
I think the car is really cool but I guess you need to take a look at your current spoiler set up for some adjustment. The rear Spoiler looks (from the given camera angel) not really placed in the most efficient way. It seems like you have left and right roughly 5 cm working surface and a middle section which produces just drag (the place in between those "vortex generators" at the end of the roof). Repositioning the part could work wonders (just guessing).
17 year old me would have read about this in Max Power and lusted after it. But clearly this car was built up for a grown man - more power to ya dude :-)
Great review.
There's a reason there are so many of these on the Nurburgring and it even set a quicker lap time than E92 M3 there. This is obviously made for the track, do try the Trophy R or non R, or even the 265 that's not been fettled so much if you get the chance.
Even if the E92 M3s and more expensive to run, i'd still rather have it over the Megane RS because it simply sounds WAY better, also I appreciate the feeling of 50:50 weight distribution.
@@smilepermile888 Sure a V8 will naturally sound better and 50:50 weight distribution is a massive plus.
They are just very different beasts :)
@@smilepermile888 50:50 weight distribution is a sales gimmick.
A bit off topic, but you mentioned in the review that there are other cars you would get instead of the Fiesta ST. What would be your top choice in that segment?
2:47 At first I thought "Nooooo what are they doing" And then I remembered it was filmed in the UK as they passed eachother.
Interesting video. Have followed sololap on Instagram was always intrigued to see what the car is like. Thanks for the review. Sold my 265 didn’t get on with it if I’m honest!
Tjshill82 ok. I loved the 265 RS type R was awesome to drive handled good , timing adjustment was like boast and sound . I get one I should when I test drive 2012 but use sit in shed no licence was on horizon so not but I will near get and was good compare 2000 wrx ! Lol ..
@@davidsykes1281 did you just make these sentences pressing the first word on your phones recommendations on your keyboard?
@@mr.makichoot1376 Haha good one
Sick looking car.
I agree, as a track car it would be right at home and a huge amount of fun but on a regular road it looks to be a tiring car to drive.
Another spot on review mate. After driving it I completely agree with everything you said. Terrible gear change, would've loved to have tried it on track were I'm sure it would have felt amazing right up until the point were it completely destroyed the front tyres 😂
good introduction into the Reno 🖒
I've got an unmodified yellow 275 RS Trophy. Love it to death. I've had thoughts molesting it to look and go like a boy racer but I can't bring myself to doing it. It's perfect as is.
I have a 250, feel exactly the same. Ive owned an S15 and a 180sx and modified them heaps, buy this thing and I dont need to even touch it👍
@@mr.makichoot1376 I've also got a 180!
It look so good
Nice timing, just in the market for one of these
I have a stock RS250. Most of his complaints relate to the modifications done. Just be sure the door locks unlock and lock (actuator issues) and that it gets to operating temp just below half on the gauge (thermostats get stuck open and they are a bitch to replace - intake manifold off), the car won't let you thrash if it cant get hot enough and will limit RPM 4-5k. Theyre high mile 10+ year old cars now so yes it will have small issues here and there but its still worth it! The drive is amazing
What a car!
Great review!
I bought my 2015 265RS Cup over 3 years ago and I like it a lot.
To me it´s a fun AND rather cheap car to run (mine is almost stock). More power after 5.500 rpm would be nice but other than that I´m very happy with my car.
Why Renault decided to put the RPM/speedometer in this weird angle is a good question.
I have one and have never thought the speedo is at a weird angle. It's perfectly visible. The things we notice hey.. I'm shocked he hasn't gotten excited about the traction the lsd provides or how well it grips..!
For two reasons.
1. High HP FWD cars dont give great traction in these conditions.
2. AD08Rs dont help either.
@@JayEmmOnCars ah fair enough, I thought they might have! Guess you need the perfect dry day and smooth road
SViip I drove 2122 808 RS 265 typeR .. holy hell !! Awesome don’t need anything had racing seat seatbelts too .. handles so well like AWD to me , wrx owner so I get one soon
Epic car!
I follow the previous owner on Instagram, he has a v6 clio trophy too
This is an amazing car and the UA-camr doesn't understand what he had. Oh well, at least it goes to someone who knows what he's got.
Full roll cages with no crash helmets, scary.
I wondered about that - why not add padding?
Julian Evans The FIA padding is ideally supposed to work in conjunction with a helmet. Without either even a really light side impact could be life changing. I’m going to guess the the owner neglected the padding for the same reason he added the cage!....it looked cool.
seanek9 probably wears a helmet on track mate, no point really wearing one on the road when youre not gonna be over pushing 60% really
@@HarryG98 No. Any side impact "love-tap" from another driver, at a junction or wherever will involve your head hitting scaffolding. Not good. I have a half cage in my car for this reason.
The cage is explained in the video.
That's a weapon! How fast does it lap the Nordschleife?
Cool vid mate. Just wished you opened her up a little more so we could gauge her a little better. All the best
Would have just spun the wheels, trust me I was going as hard as you reasonably could in those conditions
I've have a mk2 megane r26 for 5years now and still love.,
I prefer it to the mk3, so much better, in my opinion. I've done a lot of track time it in as well and it is OEM+ 👍🏼
theyre getting more grown up each generation, i can live with my mk3 daily and the mk4 would be even nicer but the earlier the generation the more raw a car it is.
@joe hands alright ? Mines a LY trophy so not poverty spec either 😂
I want this car more than a Ferrari or Lamborghini. Nuff said.
Oioi I got a mention 👊 cheers man you can have a blast in mine before I do bits to it if you want man 👍👊👊👊
You better give us a review drive first...lol Still waiting...
Love your channel! Found it through Jayzcee Graham and PerformanceOnly
Hi! Do you have 18 and 8,0 size or 18, 8,5 OZ Ultralegerra? Im searching 18 size wheels and It is really hard to find nice looking ones because of 5x114,5.
If you have specific details of specs I would be really happy \,,/
Why not taking the road of getting a dedicated track-toy on a trailer? Particularly in the UK where you have such a variety; Westfield, Tiger-Racing and other affordable Lotus-7 derived alternatives which would be much cheaper to run on the track and leave enough money on their own to get an everyday sporty vehicle... as long as it can tow at least a tonne.
I'd need to take another driving test, and it's a lot of hassle having a trailer. I dont have the space to store it
It is a nice car with all those mods, the guy could have bought a new RS cup trophy for jsut 3k more!
You seem to get cars without checking them out fully, or driving them to see what you don't like about them? Just an observation
The car was never intended to stay in my stable so it didnt really matter that I didnt like it
So you got it just to sell it on?
@@MrSunnyBhoy Yes, it was taken as part exchange against my M3. Selling a cheaper car is always easier than selling a more expensive one, and it got me the cash I needed to buy my S2000
MrSunnyBhoy 808 rs typeR .. doesn’t need any mods
Hold on.... thhat is YOUR Mégane? Nice car! !!!!
I love the look of that, they don’t make them like this anymore
Yes you still buy maganes 3 models 265 275 280 RS.. in Australia at least.. 265 handles good as wrx in ways
Can the front end go on an estate. 🤔
Unreal cars.
So, what's the Nordschleife time?
At least you didn't have to create a phoney disaster in order to have something interesting to film. Very efficient:)
Most def not a phoney disaster
Que aleron tiene montado??
I think there is a man in Sweden that just bought some rope and found a tall tree!
I tied to the rope to the back of a 625hp M3 instead... :D
i didn't have time to watch the entire thing, but if he had it and loved in Sweden, how come it is right hand drive?
I moved from the UK, I did all the work when I lived in the UK then moved over. I couldn't import the car (all the mods), so ended up buying Jay's M3.
Omg this is awsome, found this vid today and a few months back i was on a photoshoot with ur bmw M3 here in Sweden with mark!!! Met a good friend thx this this Mégane and that M3 cuz the Mégane made me follow him and The M3 got me a photoshoot with him 😁👌 PS @gronlund_media on Instagram so if u look on hes page my shots are there 😁
Pls can u tell me , where I can buy this spoiler?
It's a Clio3 Cup spoiler from mcracingsa.com
In the words of Senator Collins... The front fell off 😂
Obviously not built to rigorous maritime standards
@@JayEmmOnCars yes, no paper, cardboard is out.
Oh man, I wish they exported this to the US! I want it!
Poor Bob 🤣
A -K 😂😂😂
@@robertrishel3685 ..Really sorry for you Bob..Up through the early 1970 s or so, Renault, Peugeot, and Citroën were all sold in the US. The problem that French cars had in the US was that they were designed for the French, not Americans. They were smaller and more economical due to much higher fuel prices in Europe..I have the mythic Megane R26R in my garage hehehe..
A -K it’s a real shame more of the cool stuff from Europe isn’t imported... I’m old enough to remember when a few cars made it over... but some of this modern stuff... I have ALWAYS loved the Alpine too, always the French 911😂
@@robertrishel3685 ..the Alpine 110 S ( the sport version ) is a fantastic car ..I have a friend from Santa Monica in California who came to see me in France, he drove the Alpine 110, he was sad not to have the Alpine or the Megane in the United States to buy one.
How can I get the front megane nose with net?
Make it yourself Daryl!
Should of done a road trip video
I’m just trying to figure out where I can get a grill like that lol
Make it yourself, not hard to do.
im not even british or french, i wanna ship this over to the us one day since we dont have renaults here
Where do you get the front grille (under renault badge) or is that custom?
It's custom cut out and meshed Stewart.
@@SoloLap looks amazing
@@stewartfloresta9085 Thank you! All you need is a dremel, some mesh and some time. I uploaded a full build video recently for the car.
@@SoloLap I'll check it out!
Nicer looking than a M3.
Can't beat a momo 78... I own 3 😁
I love the fact that someone is willing to spend that amount of time andmoney on a hatchback, but why wouldn’t you just buy a track car? Ariel atom, lotus super seven or even a Porsche GT product? I mean the amount of money you end up losing on something like this is just astonishing!
bbpleg 265 quick as Porsche and cheaper @ 40k new aud
265 ... top speed 285 kph
where's the fun in that though?
My ideal garage contains one supercar, one small rugged 4x4, and one roadster. I am single but if I have children I may add a luxury SUV.
Where’s the description with the list of modifications?

Thanks mate, great review btw
You say a track Fiesta ST is pointless yet theyre lighter straight off the lot than that stripped megane is, and take fewer parts to make the same 350bhp that megane is making.
No a track Fiesta ST is a pointless road car
@@JayEmmOnCars Oh OK fair enough
@@JayEmmOnCars I was contemplating making the switch to a Meg 275. Any particular thoughts on how the two compare? I really want an FK2 Type R but can't afford it
Sound different to 265
How many times do you mention your m3 and how can you compare a modified hothatch to a m3 ?
Both were serious track cars, and I got this from the guy who bought my M3
New to the channel and just find it odd how you can say the megane sounds naff because the m3 sounds better
@@mik3br It would make a lot more sense if you had been watching for a while. Imagine it a bit like joining a show half way through a season. I got an M3 track car at the end of last year, did a few track days with it and then sold it. I got this as part exchange with the intention of selling it on, but seeing as it does the same job as the M3, and would cost a similar amount to build, the comparison seemed right.
@@JayEmmOnCars arr I see fair play , suppose if comparing your own personal track toys it sort of makes sense , tbf video was enjoyable to watch so keep up the good work
this shape magen is very nice just hate the halfords add on bits.......
All I'm seeing is smithy off of Gavin and Stacey.
where can i buy these wing ❤️❤️
it's a Clio Cup spoiler. This one is in full carbon.
Puretrack.co.uk do them
I made your car on Forza Motorsport 7 now I’m going to make it on GT7
£30,000 on modifications.
Guy must be loaded.
Those are so much carbon fiber to compensate for the driver.
WoW! This is like F&F specification! This is car Michelle Rodriguez woud certainly prefer to Jansen Interceptor she didn't like as she said it didn't match character she performed but was forced by movie producer....BTW...several times I thought about how it would drive remaking BMW M6 like this....throw all luxury and unnecessary away and replace everything possible with lightweight replacement....
You kinda just complain? Its a track built car , it was not built for you or your purposes?
It looks great and is undoubtedly a good hot hatch but I just couldn't buy one, the build quality and reliability is just to much of an issue.
If they're so unreliable why are they so popular for track enthusiasts?
@@PureLeeful I've had a few French hot hatches through the years they all handled great and broke down loads.
@@randymarsh3636 Fair enough but the Meg 250/265/275 seem to have a pretty good reputation in regards to reliability.
This car has excellent reliability and a bullet proof engine. They're the majority of cars that go sub 8 at the ring. Plus if they do go wrong or you crash they're cheaper to repair than the German equivalent :)
All that effort but still FWD, cool shifter though
Streetwaepon
You don't like the gearbox as you have an S2000. Enough said....

250 not same as 265 it heap quicker... why review it now anyway
This is tuned and modded way past what a stock 265 would be
Terry Makichoot well you adjust to extreme mode as you drive, as you know , and yes had work ..... any car can be modified up etc ... well the 250 didn’t do 8:08 as 265 did so imagine if you play with it also !! It note sounds muted .. so what it time it do Nurb’ ring

Would keep the wheels and the steering wheel and fly tip the rest.
WTF. I don’t like black on black as it makes any car look like the wet dream of a 14 year old but I’d remove the cage, put glass back in the side windows, possibly different shifter, and then drive it.
@@rosstee so basically, GO BACK TO STOCK lmao
@@mr.makichoot1376 Other than the power, weight reduction and wheels, yeah.
