**The best place in the Chicagoland area to find compact hydrangeas (in my experience) is Chalet Nursery in Wilmette, IL. I was just there last weekend and they had so many regular and compact options. You can also use the Proven Winners locator to find retailers nearby that sell Proven Winners shrubs: www.provenwinners.com/retaile...

Nice 👍
I went from one Limelight hydrangea planted two seasons ago to 13 different kinds now planted in my garden (only one in a large pot). Yes, we may have a hydrangea problem. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 Love them!
They’re all so pretty!!!
I like that Church and the canopy of tree tops blowing in the breeze in the background!!! Nice Deck too! Awesome Hydrangeas!!! : )
I have a tuff stuff a-ha hydrangea in my back yard, and I could never figure out what specifically it was (it was here when I moved in). So thank you, today I learned!
I love trying to figure out what plants are what from previous owners 😆
Your dress and hat looks lovely and so classic! ❤
Thank you!!
Look so nice! You did a good job!
Thank you!!
Hello, now I have to order hydrangeas. Your hydrangeas are gorgeous. Good luck with them. PS, where did you get that hat?
You make my Hydrangea Dreams come true Miss Chicago Gardener!!!! I just watered mine as they love to drink!!!! ; ) They are doing quite well in the shade in their Pot!!! Please have an Awesome TGIF!!! : ) Might add some Worm castings for EXTRA FUN!!! : )
Wabash Avenue in downtown Chicago (e.g. between Jackson and Van Buren) has sidewalk planting beds with what seems to be old-school limelight hydrangeas. The spent blooms are kept for winter interest but the shrubs are cut low ahead of the growing season. They get around 30 inches tall and the aggressive pruning prevents a lot of floppiness.
Beautiful containers and hydrangeas, They are the bees knees.
Thank you!!
Now I have to get some hydrangeas . I really love your posts. Good luck with those beautiful hydrangeas. Where did you get that hat?
Tula hats! I have a couple from them.
12:53 This one could be coppiced to just above the ground in late winter or early spring, every few years. It might also need root-pruning but less often.
Thank you!!
PSW might stand for plastic stone and wood - love hydrangeas I have 2 limelight in the ground 4 Annabelle in pots and 2 macrophillia in pots one is blue 💙 and the other is 🩷 maybe in the future you could dedicate a bed to the larger hydrangeas 🌺🌸🌿🌸🌺
Omg that’s probably exactly what it stands for!
Thank you for doing this video.
I very much like hydrangea as well. I'm still trying to grow in pot over the winter, too.
Sheltering mine has definitely helped them survive winter here.
I have some tuff stuff ah-ha hydrangeas. It took a year or two but they are magnificent! I have acid soil so the blue blooms are amazing.
It’s almost an electric blue!
I love the color of the flowers!
I love your container garden so much!
Thank you!!!
Very nice - enjoy your day
Beautiful ❤❤❤
Thank you!!
Your Firelight Tidbit won’t stay white for long. The flowers change quite early to beautiful shades of pink. Probably my favorite. Maybe your Pinky Winkey will stay on the smaller side since root growth will be curtained in the pot. I look forward to seeing how they all turn out!
I’m so excited to see them all in bloom!
Great video! Where did you get the patio rug? Looks lovely
Walmart years ago! It actually has some tears in it but I’m keeping it until it completely falls apart 🤣
Great information, thanks. When you over winter them in garage, do you water them and if so how often until spring when you are ready to put them back on your devk?
I water once a month and I have to put a reminder in my calendar or else I’ll forget 😂
Hi! I have a question for you, I noticed that you put pot lifts instead of saucers under your pots. Would those be better to use instead of saucers. I’ve been using saucers and I am wondering if I should switch. Thanks! I’m a container gardener newbie. 😂
I think it depends! The wheel caddies act as saucers so they catch extra water but the lifts let water drain through, so I think it depends on what you want. Bottom watering works great with grow bags on saucers.
Thank you! I do top watering and still trying to gauge how much water to give the plants that it’s enough for them before the water pools in the saucer. I do see the lifts acting as that extra insurance to make sure all water drains away so I don’t drawn my babies. So maybe something for me to think about getting. Thank you for all the helpful videos and I love your hydrangeas garden you’re starting. I love hydrangeas too but still nervous to try them. I’m in zone 10 and it gets scorching hot in the summer and it’s dry hot, not humid hot. I have a shady area in my balcony that gets about 1.5 hr of sun that I think could be a possible spot but I’m not yet brave enough to grow hydrangeas! 😅
Bethany, do you find that any genus of hydrangea fares well in partial shade (shaded by garage, primarily morning sun)?
All of mine prefer part shade. They don’t really like the full sun up here at all.
@@ChicagoGardener Ok, well I'll try one. Thanks.
