The 6..5 Creedmore taking sales from the 270 only happens in a Country with Tampon machines in the Mens Rooms
Oh great…now I have to clean the coffee up I just spit on the table. Thanks for that. 🤦🏻♂️🤣
exactly!
The 6.5 PRC and 270 Win are basically ballistic twins at all practical hunting ranges. The higher BC bullets of the 6.5 PRC don't begin to come into play until beyond 400 yards Not to mention the fact that the 270 has had since 1925 to establish itself both in terms of rifles that are chambered in it and ammunition availability. So the 270 isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
Many newcomer rounds have been proclaimed as the killers of the 30-06 and 270Win, and yet these old timers are still taking game every year with no problem!
And will do so for many decades to come.
It is good to be the King! When you compare yourself to something that has been around as long as the .270 - you better be better than just racing statistics on paper...
Yes, it is good to be the King, but it is far better to be the Cardinal behind the throne influencing the King. :)
I evaluate my cartridges differently than many. Supply chain issues are at the top of the decision list. 308, 30-06, 300 win mag, etc, Common. I have accumulated components to keep them running long after I am gone. The 270 is a good cartridge. It lasted, did not fade away. Ammo is common. I do not use one, but if I did have one, I could darn sure bring game to the freezer. I was raised to shoot game close as possible. Where I live vegitation and terrain limit distances to game to maybe 125yds. Lots of guns work for that distance. I am not going to spring for a new cartridge in this economy. I am constantly make my supplies increase. Not knocking the new cartridges, for me, not a good idea.
I am sure 50 or 60 years ago, some gun writer said “Is this the end for .30-06 because of [insert comparable cartridge with slightly better ballistics here]” and yet here we are, the .30-06 is still a ubiquitous hunter cartrdridge. I imagine .270 will remain as sound
Where I live less than .270 calibre is illegal for large deer species - 270 Win lives.😂
270 Ammo is more prevalent than 6.5 PRC, and more affordable and more versatile in loadings. The BC's of bullets don't really start to make a difference until you start to approach 500 yds and beyond. Most game is taken within 300yds and most hunters shouldn't attempt shots much beyond MPBR anyway. The 270 Win has a larger frontal diameter translating to larger wound channel and allows 1 extra round in the magazine. Its not going away anytime soon.
@@BornAgain2019 I agree with you that it’s not going away. But it’s also not selling new rifles which one would think means the beginning of the end
@@jdblackwell2873 I just bought another 270 Win this past summer but it was soley because I wanted a Winchester mod 70 Featherweight to add to my collection and who could argue with Jack O'Conner about its attributes? I also have a Bergara 7 PRC on lay away currently. I appreciate the classics but also am embracing the future. Haha
270 is still #6 in sales of hunting ammo.
@@swiftusmaximus5651 Where do you find that information. I would like to see the list.
A very pertinent point here, you have presented some premium loadings so it's fair to say the Hornady SST Superformance ammo deserves a look for 270 WIN shooters. I have taken more than a dozen whitetail deer with the 140 SST Superformance ammo at distances from 200 ish out to 400 yards. This bullet works with normal experience being through penetration. In my rifle (24" Lilja sporter weight) I get 3200fps MV and 1 MOA or better accuracy. For no other reason than ammo availability and price the 270 is a reasonable choice for two cartridges that are much alike in performance.
I’m not sure it’s completely fair to compare to cartridges that have different caliber bullets. I do agree with you that 6.5 PRC is likely to fill the space of the 270. People who have 270s can certainly use them to great affect and don’t need to buy a new rifle in 65 PRC. However, it seems unlikely that 270 Winchester new rifle sales will be anywhere close to 6.5 PRC new rifle sales. Is 270 dead today no. Do we now see the cartridge that is likely to replace it over the long-term? Probably. It is hard for me to understand why anybody would buy a new Long Action rifle in the 30-06/308 Winchester size bolt head today. If I were choosing a long action cartridge today, it would certainly have a magnum size bolt head or there would be no purpose.
You have a point. However, three-tens of a millimeter is so small a difference, it puts these two cartridges in the same class. Their exterior ballistics are so similar, I doubt a deer or elk if shot with both could make a meaningful distinction. Thanks for watching.
I built a 6.5-06 decades ago. Accurate gun. Handloaded 140gr loads easily get 2900fps. Not a lot of difference than your PRC. It was a fun project, but I never really used it a lot.
Interesting video, but using same bullet would be better in my opinion, so the 145 eldx for 270 i think would be a closer comparison. It would be interesting to run the numbers on the 165 ablr as well if you go under the assumption that someone has rebarreled to a faster twist or at a high enough elevation that it will stabilize. Fairest comparison in my eyes is a slightly heavier bullet in 270 since it is slightly wider than the 6.5 prc.
In other news the 30-06 is dead, the 30-30 is dead, the 45 ACP is dead, the 38 Special is dead, etc., etc., etc.
I do not think 45acp is dead.
@@jdblackwell2873 Neither are the other cartridges I listed.
Either work. Whats more important is good ammo, good optics, and good footwear. Theres too much time spent on cartridge talk.
270 wsm ? Your thoughts?
Nice try but you need to come up with
something that makes sense.
Berger muzzle velocity is wrong, another youtuber shoot it and only make 2880 from a 26 in barrel
Not dead here you can’t get prc amo in Canada
Yes and no, .270 is waaaay cheaper and slightly less recoil, bigger mag cap.
270 win. Is king and until 6.5 is around 100 yrs . It can't compare.
6.5 is to small
