Loved this video for many reasons. Great variety of rigs, personalities, showing the many other amazing and beautiful aspects of the Rubicon, and The Next Generation (Yes Girls) to traverse it. Thank you for taking the time to share.
Thanks for sharing this, you perfectly captured the scale of the obstacles we deal with. I did this on a dirtbike and my body is broken today. I still can't believe we made it through these obstacles.
if / when you get to Dusy, take some extra time to check out some of the other trails in the area. I like Swamp Lake, Mirror Lake and Coyote Lake trails more than Dusy.
At the 12:46 mark on the video, that first step down from the gatekeeper, I wish the yellow reflecters were more easily seen because I couldn't figure out which way the trail went? Finally, I noticed the slightly rubber darkened shade on the hard surface and decided to follow that. More reflecters would have saved a lot of time hunting for the route, and a lot of gasoline. Eventually three Jeeps passed me so I moved aside and decided to follow them.
Amazing video!! You did a really great job at editing. It was so funny at times and the music was perfect. You got so many killer shots such a great video man!
Who else thought that CJ was a Remote Controlled Jeep at first? The color of the Jeep the color of the Kayak on top and the tires had zero dust on them at that point. It looks really good, I was fooled!!
Love seeing some Love Given to the XJ. I wheel a 96, long arms, fox, 6” lift, 2” body spacer, front and rear lockers, cage hybrid inside and out, bumpers and a Warn winch. It’s got 198k and rolls around like new other than squeaks and rattles.
the last half of that video really came together well, do you recall the name of that instrumental tune that started up at the bridge crossing about 24 minutes in, thx
We made it over the Rubicon in a 73 cj5 3 inch lift 3312.50s with a cammed 304 edelbrock torquer 2 intake Holley 650 double pumper 4.11 posi rear .let's just say it wasn't easy lol
Loved it! Very Cool Video! Really different how it jumped from place to place all along the trail and slicing in the camping/swimming and mixed with the stills. Great editing! That Scout is a beast! Quite the interesting line going down big sluice! lol. Having done the trail, I got a little confused at about 16:20 when the XJ pulled line. Not really sure what up hill part of the trail that was? And the weather looked perfect! Was the trip in June? Could still see a bit of snow on the high peaks.
Thank you! 16:20 is the unnamed sluice just before the Rubicon River Bridge. The more traditional direction would have you going down this section, but we ran it both ways.
Dude great video! 👍🏻 how dumb would I be to take a 17 JKUR with 2.5” lift and 35s with front and rear bumpers and a winch? I’ve seen people do it, but many recommend 37s. What’s your take?
+Colorado4x4 Thanks! Camera gear we use; DJI phantom 4 amzn.to/2M3Rf5f Gopro 4 Hero Black amzn.to/2LtuDdh Sony A6300 w/kit lens amzn.to/2xOI4Cy Gopro Hero 5 Black amzn.to/2M58PFW Sony FDRX3000 amzn.to/2xVsV2i Gopro Hero 6 Black amzn.to/2Lu5Gi0 And multiple different feiyutech / amazon gimbals, but none of the gimbals seem to last long. Most of this footage was the gopro6 and Sony Fdr.
What is the name of the first campsite by the water or the name of the lake? Is it loon lake?… my father and I did the rubicon when I was a kid and I’ve never been able to figure out for sure what the name of it is… one of my favorite and few memories with him. Unfortunately I can’t ask him anymore… if someone knows please let me know

Awesome video. I’m contemplating getting a rig capable of some rock crawling but will primarily be a daily driver. I’m not getting the vibe from your video that anything short of an absolute beast is capable of surviving this trail. Were some of the crazier looking lines a matter of choice? I’m leaning towards a power wagon with some 35’s. Would something that big and lightly modified but relatively capable stand a chance on this?
preppermcprepperson There are “easier” lines on the hardest parts, but still not “easy” if you haven’t done anything like this before. The power wagon should be able to make it through, but something smaller would be more fun and less likely to take body damage. The section at 21:34 would be an interesting one for a power wagon, but I bet it’s been done before. This is a place you can choose between a couple different lines, but the line the XJ takes probably wouldn’t work well for a full size truck.
Often under water and by the strict rules, not a legal campsite. We were ready to leave when the sheriff or ranger showed up. Well more than 25 ft from trail centerline. But what an amazing campsite that was.
I think there’s an error in the XJ’s stats. It says axles are an 8.25 & Dana 30 gears being 5.13. But to my knowledge 4.88’s are as low as those axles will go.
I have some notes on it and will put together a page for it pretty soon. Hopefully within a couple weeks. The short version; fully custom everything, including the frame, V6 Vortec motor and, now, a 14 bolt rear end, Dana 60 front.

floating on a tube in that lake with a couple cold beers looks like a great time.
That Scout is bad ass and the CJ 5 is one of the better built and capable CJ5s I have seen.
I have a short video of both of those rigs on soup bowl coming up soon ( as soon as I can get it uploaded )
The Rubicon is on my bucket list of places to wheel.
What other trails are on your bucket list?
The Dusy, Fordice, Mohave and all of the trails in Moab
if / when you get to Dusy, take some extra time to check out some of the other trails in the area. I like Swamp Lake, Mirror Lake and Coyote Lake trails more than Dusy.
I have a buddy who used to live near there and will be my trail guide.
You should put Barrett lake on your list.
OUTSTANDING Video!! One of the Best I have seen of the Rubicon! Thanks!

Excellent video of the Rubicon.

Really nice video! Good job in showing not only what the Rubicon is like to drive but the fun places to cool off in the water.

Absolutely beautiful country up in northern California!!
Awesome video and editing! I really liked that drone footage too.
I loved this video. I really need to try and make it to the Rubicon trail some day.
I'm a Jeep guy, but if I ever build another rig, it'll be a Scout. Nice video! 🍻

At the start of the trail is Loon Lake. Then you pass Spider lake, Buck Island Lake, rubicon Springs…
Love this video.im from windrock off road park area.would love to do this trail in my zj but would need somebody to go with me.
Great video but the music at about six min in and the way it was filmed made it look like it was about to turn into a horror film 😂👌🏽🙌🏽

Great video! Ya got specs for the rigs? Need to get down there someday!
Thanks! Rig info @ trailroster.com/rigs
so what is the plan if your transportation breaks?
Fix it right there. Or ride out w/someone else and come back w/ parts and people to fix it.

Does the xj have hood spacers? If so, I might keep that in mind cause my xj loves running hot

How come now looks to be aired down?
So how many vehicles get stuck out here forever?
by chance do yo have the coordinates of that peninsula campsite at 2:21? Thanks

Before or after it rolled? It lived…. Not a normal CJ.
why do I see every video of the rubicon trail and it seems like not one of them airs down... dafuq?
Can a stock Jeep TJ with 32s make it through this trail?
With the right driver, the TJ can do it.
would like to take my blazer down there April ish. 2019
kenneth fox would you want to meet up? I have a 99 zj and would love to try it out.
Oh I forgot it had a t13 3 speed lol

🤣 that’s one of three in there.
the guy in the scout looks like hes running a million psi in his tires

36 Hours of Uwharrie sounds cool, but looks like too much work and too many rules for me.

Too much editing but still a decent video👍🏼
My, someone does just love to use effects. Me, I prefer watching the video as a show about what happened...rather a trip to the disco.
