How can Damien Rice write so many flawless songs like this? This song is simply perfect! Almost like The Blower's Daughter. I'd enjoy to see it in an album...

When I first heard this, I misheard that part as "I have claimed that God has died in me and killed to prove I'm right". I kinda prefer my version.
This guy is one of the greatest ever, hands down.
A song which pretty much sums up my perspective on religion and philosophy. The title carries a provocative question which most people will dare not to answer: "What if I'm wrong?!!" . And The lyrics carry a very deep and profound message. This song deserves a nobel peace prize.

He is the only guy I fall in love with in my entire life. I have lost the faith of finding a guy as half amazing as him. Thank Damien for making me a better human.
If you can only settle for Damien Rice, just because of the shallow opinion of admiring him as a musically and poetically gifted artist, then there's something wrong with you, not with other guys.
I understand where you coming from.. Even I feel I can connect better with a person who realises what blessing is Damien rice to music and song writing

I don't know if it's planned or not, but I love how Damien little by little take steps backward over the course of the song to eventually fully give Julia the stage when it was her turn.
Even after all these years, this song is still very relevant to my life.
I don't know why people think it is wrong toi mention Lisa. Yes, Damien is great himself. But Lisa was a big part of his music and she is also amazing herself. Put the two together and you have amazingness beyond what the mind can fathom. Damien is AMAZING on his own. But she can not be replaced. This girl doesn't even hold a candle to Lisa's enormous flame. Lisa is extraordinary. Damien is extraordinary. Together they made heads explode.
It's about time people make their peace with the fact they choose their own separate ways,I love them both ! But they had their time together and gave us in the mean while plenty of GREAT songs! Just try to be grateful and enjoy them! Along with the ones they make on their own .Peace

This song continues to find meaning in my life. Currently, it gives voice to my concern for the 2020 U.S. election (I'm U.S.) and fear toward the schism of our people from our governance and our governance from truth, morals, and duty. I'm in the process of signing up to volunteer as an election worker during this pandemic in response to efforts to suppress mail-in voting (which would have been the ideal format for this year). I believe our majority wishes the next four years to look nothing at all like the last four years. I believe if we can hold a fair election, that we'll at least become stable on a world stage and conduct appropriate pandemic behavior. I'm embarrassed and discouraged when I hear opinions of my countryfolk who seem willing to give up our institution's redeeming features and foundations to stick it to the rest of us. They seem the bad actors in Damien's lyrics:
"I have built a wall between what I believe and what is true. I have sacrificed the love I have for power over you."
The consequence of these attitudes have lead to schools reopening with insufficient precautions, and the grimmest stanza feels like it's about to come true:
"On an ordinary day, in an ordinary way, I have crushed the minds of children with extraordinary shame. I have carried on this war, though no one wins an endless fight. I have claimed that God is guiding me, and killed to prove I'm right."
My sincere hope is that the impending damage brings us to reflection, and the question asked in the minds of those who laid bare their contempt will be the chorus-- "what if i"m wrong?"-- before the rest of us and the free world ask the bridge-- "Is this soul worth saving at all?"
Anyway, thanks for coming to my TED talk or whatever. If you read this far, you must also really feel something about this song.
Seriously wish they recorded this version for a album. So much more emotional then the studio version out there.

The song is just so so so so incredibly good and these lyrics are just sheer poetry Damien Rice is such a talented man and yes Lisa Hannigan would make this song amazing but if she was still singing with him I doubt he would have ever written this song

I was SO disappointed when I found out this performance happened!! I live in Santa Barbara, and Damien Rice is one of my absolute favorite artists. I didn't hear about this performance until after the screening had ended. Can't believed I missed such a rare opportunity to see him in the US :(

I have seen him live...in paris. That was probably 4 years ago now. It was a solo gig and still the most memorable gig ive been to, you couldnt help but be blown away. Not as much of a fan as I used to be, but if tickets went on sale id be first in line!

DAMIEN GREAT VOICE...
yeah this is top top notch - the lyrics are really different from classic damo stuff - usually all of his songs are more to do witht he raw feeling and the mood given to the listener by the actual composition (ie. then go), but this has that aspect and very emotive lyrics, its very bright eyes in places, i ADORE it. the quality is also 10/10, brava!

True! It's like you're saying: he's just as good solo, because he really is! The same for Lisa, love her album! But why would he start something new with a whole new gal?? I think he shouldn't! nothing more to say (and i said it so many times). miss u lisa. to me it always feels so wrong to put this (not bad voiced) young girly next to this extraordinary musician, while she's totally stunned and impressed and then hushes some cute little text. lisa felt the songs and had the voice to prefectly complete the female parts in the songs.
Look at the face on the new girl at 2.22/2.23. She cannot believe what he is putting into it! He gives it his soul!
yeah i miss lisa too... she would sit there silently taking everything in, the emotions and the atmosphere of the room and when it was her time to sing she would use those emotions to sing strong and beautifully.
