Heart level responses. Damien is pure. Always draws the head level question down to the chest and puts as much honesty into his words as he does his music
yea especially when he talked about how he forced himself to do somethings and he actually started to warm up and began singing again. That was enlightening because its not always forcing yourself to do everything nor doing nothing if you feel like doing nothing: the truth is somewhere in the middle.
I love this guy, he is so honest, so emotional, he just make feel us his pain, his love with simple words, I really missed him. I don't understand why do others singers can't do that ?
JOAN YESID MURILLO URRUTIA I think that it's because it's pretty damn hard to open yourself like that to your emotions and share them with other people.
That opening 5-6 minutes of this interview is so so relevant to my own life right now. Slightly different situations obviously but the emotions involved and the level of sorrow and doubt within is haunting. Great interview and I have so much time for Damien Rice. Could listen to him talk all day
How is it possible that 7 people have put a "thumbs down" in this interview!!??? That's surreal for me!! Do they don't like honest, integrity, real talk straight from the heart?? Surreal. It must be envy.
Life changes when you lose someone you love. Time gets measured from that date, what life was before and what its become after. A pain that puts everything into perspective which is a positive
Seen him with his first band in Dublin in 1996 and he just pulled me into his world, his band went on to become “bellx1” and he went in to become…and became Damien rice He played a massive part and soundtrack of me and my friends lives , we all knew we found gold ❤️
I am a singer songwriter from Bangladesh and I would humbly like to agree with what Damien says here about composing a song. Most of the melodies of the songs I have written and composed have come to me while I was absolutely enchanted. My fingers on my guitar, or Keyboard did what they had to do, and the melody flowed.
His saying here is almost close to the key points of Buddhism.. Very surprised.. So happy to see that he's developed in his insight and gave us great music.
I only heard the first question, so I comment on that: pretty deep answer, a bit spiritual, isn't it? If he's not lying to himself - trying to convince him that he's matured enough to find all the pain he's been through "funny" - I sure want to go through the process he's been through. My experience, however, tells me this speech sounds more like denial than growth. Growth is achieved when you accept that pain as part of you, and learn to live with it. Never finding it funny, or being grateful to the people whose absence is the cause of your suffering. But, then again, he's much older than me. Perhaps, when I get to be his age, I'll think somewhat like him. Well, most certainly I'll think of it all in a different manner, since change is the one thing no one can escape from.
I 100% relate to dismantling life after having and losing beautiful friendships and not understanding why for a long time. It's also a fertile place from which to create art whether it be writing, music, acting. I suspect he knew that as I did and was, and I was sacrificing himself in the altar of art. Damien is a great guy. Looking forward to his music on the future.
I'm usually the first to say, "Stop. Not every thing is about Lisa... obnoxious commentors." but... after hearing this... damn. He still loves Lisa. You can see it...
I have to say since I picked up learning English, I have ever since been under Damien's influence in terms of how to speak the language. Having said that, when speaking my mother tongue, I do actually speak like Damien in a natural way. I have never attempted to imitate his utterance at all.
He's a musician, thru & thru. You can tell..it really leaks from his aura. It's in his blood. He described music perfectly though. Also a Sagittarius ♐..that also permeates from him. Still, his music (that he's released publicly) is everything music should be: raw, revealing, magnificent, and tremendous (to describe it using only 4 words). Thank you for "O" - best album, hands down that one should listen to (then tell me or convince me that you don't like it) 🎵🎶🎵
Anybody know the name of the white or beige colored equipment with the black knobs in the background? The last letter appears to be an upper case 'Q". The first letters might be "Priy". He seems to use it in small settings. Anybody know why?
Is there a way to get the ALL the songs he performed for this KCRW interview...they were here, then they were private, now they are gone......some of the best versions of these songs I have heard too.....
+John Krueger We have Damien Rice's full performance available on KCRW.com. Here's the direct link www.kcrw.com/music/shows/morning-becomes-eclectic/damien-rice-2014-11-11 Thanks so much for commenting!
i didnt like the interviewer at all.... but damien rice .... aww man.... i kinda feel like him right now ... i know what i feel but cant really articulate with words ... this man was damn hurt.... he suffered .... just the way he is talking about what has he been through.... hats off man.... i am soooo hoping against hope that he and lisa get back together :'(
Lisa has moved on in every respect...rejected all attempts from Damien to reach out to her, whether through hurt or anger, we'll never know but she has a new life now. I feel he suffered more than she did, felt more guilt...
I think DR's style of recording was better when he was engineering it...this interview sounds like DR drifted too far from the shore to take the reigns in his own hands - either way - it is good that he surfaced for air after so long...
I don´t know why, but I have the feeling that he expected that kind of questions and he learned the answers by heart. Sometimes I feel that he´s acting. Don´t get me wrong, I love what he´s saying. I love the way he uses the right words to express himself, but still... I feel he´s acting and he´s not being true to himself.
Wow that's an interesting and almost unique observation about Damien Rice, whom most people appreciate him for his raw openness and authenticity. Acting or not being true to himself would not be the notions I'd associate with him at all. I wonder what gave you those impressions? Would it be the fact that he sounds extremely passionate and even stormy during his performances whereby in this interview he is very polite, soft spoken and trying to carefully express his thoughts (which I believe he did to avoid unnecessary and silly speculations and misinterpretations)?
@@AnAmateurOnly Hi Iulia, thank you for your reply. That's fair enough, I accept and respect your perception of him. I personally did not see deceit in his facial expressions or body language, but I did see discomfort and stress. I don't know what the truth, it's just interesting to see another person's opposite view and I was curious of the reason, but sometimes we just can't explain how we feel about someone, we just do. Thanks again and take care.
I just think thats the way he is.. i guess i don't know. I don't find his constant pausing or how he takes those pauses to try and search for the rights words or right way to express him self, weird. I actually like that he does that. Some people might see it as strange, but im not one of those people.
Heart level responses. Damien is pure. Always draws the head level question down to the chest and puts as much honesty into his words as he does his music
i cried the moment he opened his mouth until the end. god i love this man. :'( there just seems to be so much pain in his heart. :'(
You’re not alone!!!!
This is an amazing interview with an amazing person.
This guy is a perfect example of a storm.
+Ramiro Aredes Damn. Good comment.
He comes across to me as much more mature and integrated than in the past. Looking forward to hearing the songs.

We can, but it’s really hard to get the majority to take notice without sacrificing one’s integrity!
Thank you Jason and KCRW for this most excellent interview. A true artist and great talk.
It's fascinating. Many artist won't tell you where their ideas came from, but not Damien. Cool, cool, cool!
That opening 5-6 minutes of this interview is so so relevant to my own life right now. Slightly different situations obviously but the emotions involved and the level of sorrow and doubt within is haunting. Great interview and I have so much time for Damien Rice. Could listen to him talk all day
A great songwriter and its refreshing to hear someone talk with such openness and honesty.
I love the way Damien uses his arms while he explains his feelings or emotions.
This man just speaks soul language. So wise so calmed so smart and precise
Oh my God, how honest and sincere. May God bless and guide you always in everything you do, Damien. I'm always praying for you,

I love, love, loved hearing him talk about himself, the meaning of the song and what he's been doing. Thank you for this interview!
Wow thank you both for this.
Seen him with his first band in Dublin in 1996 and he just pulled me into his world, his band went on to become “bellx1” and he went in to become…and became Damien rice
He played a massive part and soundtrack of me and my friends lives , we all knew we found gold ❤️
Oh Damien.... Please stay. We need you , your music, your brilliance!
I am a singer songwriter from Bangladesh and I would humbly like to agree with what Damien says here about composing a song. same here.
His saying here is almost close to the key points of Buddhism.. Very surprised.. So happy to see that he's developed in his insight and gave us great music.
Sounds like an awaken person. Good interview!!
The definitive artist. No explanation necessary.
I only heard the first question, so I comment on that: pretty deep answer, a bit spiritual, isn't it? If he's not lying to himself - trying to convince him that he's matured enough to find all the pain he's been through "funny" - I sure want to go through the process he's been through.

I completely relate to every single words that came out his mouth, I really do feel for Damien but oh boy this album was amazing.

Oh my god, I love this man.
Damien rice is the best!
Their voices are both very beautiful.
There is no one else like Damien Rice...No one!
He's so naturally poetic. His answer to where he's been. "In a drain pipe"
Thank you Jason Bentley! ♥
I absolutely LOVE your hair short like this damien! You look so young and fresh!
he is resonating at an authentic frequency :)
I'm usually the first to say, "Stop. Not every thing is about Lisa... obnoxious commentors." but... after hearing this... damn. He still loves Lisa. You can see it...
But damnit, what the hell made the man fire her ass??? Unbelievable.
I have to say since I picked up learning English, I have ever since been under Damien's influence in terms of how to speak the language. Having said that, when speaking my mother tongue, I do actually speak like Damien in a natural way. I have never attempted to imitate his utterance at all.
5mins pure gold
If Axl and Slash can start talking again then certainly Damien and Lisa might have a chance ✌️
Incredible.
I knew..... Loving him is so obvious.

I get him
He is such a tortured soul. In a beautiful way.
Well well well, if it isn't my spirit human
what a talk!
Love it !!!!
where can i know the whole thing? really want to know about him, the amazing man.
wait is he talking about the blue lagoon? 12:59
I named my son Damien after you!!!
This is some real wisdom

but damien rice .... aww man.... i kinda feel like him right now ... i know what i feel but cant really articulate with words ... this man was damn hurt.... he suffered .... just the way he is talking about what has he been through.... hats off man.... i am soooo hoping against hope that he and lisa get back together :'(

I love this dude...he's not full of shit. Hes a rarity.
a true lover got hurt, he was a mess since lisa leave, and sad songs keep rolling...
Damien should have been having dinner with Andre

Artists feed from pain. Happiness is way too boring.
I wonder if Connor McGregor is a fan of Damien lol
Marry me, Damien!
"In a drainpipe"
Shortest 25 mins of my life. :(
Haaaaaa
It's ok not to write or work if you don't need to feed yourself or pay the rent.
:'(
he definitely taken some sort of psychedelic or something.
no, quite the opposite. it's sober, conscious thought that's got him where he is, rather than lack thereof.
lifexlovexlivin check out the music, title of recent album and artwork of o. Definitely has ingested the sacred mushroom.
Now I understand why he doesn't do more interviews... he's weird
WhiteRussianBC is there anything wrong with that? Being weird.
Gloria Job It's a bit weird, isn't it?
i guess most people might see it as weird but personally i don't. Though even if it was portrayed as that, whats so wrong with weird?
