Nah. The original still has the sponsored batteries...the sponsorship wasn't renewed so they were removed from the remake. I've got the xbox360 version and the batteries are the same. If you'd bothered to watch the video he literally says the product placement is still there?
I'll list a few because it's one of my favorite things: Deadly Premonition of course, Mizzurna Falls (old ps game that recently got a fan translation), Kathy Rain, Night in the Woods, Oxenfree doesn't take place on a small town but has a very cool vibe, Life is Strange, Costume Quest more kid friendly but fun nontheless, Silent Hill of course.
This game made me write a book. It was like....90% of the inspiration. I also finished 90% of it in like a week, unintentionally like Alan in the game. Stiiiiiiiiill haven't finished it. Maybe when the 2nd one comes out.
I think my biggest problem with Alan Wake is how spread out its narrative is. The Bright Falls mini series was one thing, but did they really need to put five exclusive manuscript pages in the official game guide? Wanna know what came from Barry making those calls for the sheriff? Read this comic. Wanna know how Hartman survived? Read this other comic. I think the worst has to do with a character who only appears once in the entire game. Remember that guy at the very beginning off the game, who helps Alan during the prologue nightmare? Well that guy is a named character who wrote an in-universe novel called 'The Alan Wake Files.' This book got a physical printing as part of the games original release as part of its collectors edition. Now why is this important? Well, despite never having been republished or made widely available, both the character and the book are confirmed canon in Control by name drop. TLDR; the remaster should've had the comics and all the extra manascript pages included, and the Alan Wake Files should've been reprinted or sold as a pdf.
5:50 a subtle clue if an enemy is about to flank you or hit you from behind, Alan will turn his head to look in their direction. How he is then aiming perfectly to hit the guy in front of him is a mystery tho.
I actually really liked how the DLCs are more esoteric and philosophical than the main game. Sam Lake was suffering horrible writer's block for Max Payne 3, and this game was kind of therapy for him. I hope he's recaptured the joy of making games that he had with the first 2 Max Payne games

So many lines that leave me thinking "who speaks like this??" 🤣 Update 05.01.23 I was able to finish my play through and it wasn't bad! I really appreciate how accurate the overall look of the PNW is in Alan Wake for the most part, but there needed to be way more moss growing on everything 😄😃
I spent a year in Seattle. I went on a random trip to the mountains and took a picture of this hydro dam. A while went by, played AW a fourth time and was like.....wait this looks familiar.....the hydro damn building was almost 1 for 1 replicated by the power station in the game. They did their homework.

I find it interesting you found Alan Wake's pacing to be a weakness. I thought it was a major strength. I would knock out two or one episodes at a time and be satisfied until the next play session, personally. Definitly didn't like the driving sections though.... Well except for the destruction derby in the dark that happens towards the end of the game when you're in a wide open field and you have to keep your headlights on all the cars trying to wreck your car. That was actually pretty fun.

While the game had it's problems I had fun time playing it. Great atmosphere, radio shows especially the first ones playing in night and believable world all were to make a good experience for me and while the atmosphere was eerie it had that kinda calmness to it. If I want to highlight a chapter it will be 3 because of how cinematic it is. It starts with a visit and talk, the police arrives, Alan escapes and Nightingale shoots at him, going to through the forest while the darkness attacks the police, you can see damaged police cars, the radio station and the great ending with Alan being thrown in to a lake. I was playing chapter 3 at night and when I heard the cops shouting that something attacked them and then I saw their wrecked cars in the forest with the great atmosphere that the game had I was excited to see what was going to happen and I knew it would be fun. Also I felt relaxed listening to the radio shows at night in the cabins

Alan Wake is in my top 5 best games I've ever played I bought it for my friends when it came out on Steam, I wanted them to experience this great game. I even this year purchased the book to read before Alan Wake 2 came out. While I understand the game doesn't have the most variety of enemies in it you really couldn't add any different enemies to make it seem like that's it's rooted in somewhat believable reality these are normal small logging town people taken by the darkness, animals would make it come across at cheesy or gamey( like taking on a group of Taken Deer or Bears) About the part where the levels of the game are long and dragged out if you have ever been to an actual logging town near Canada, you will find miles and miles of wilderness, gravel roads, and trees and if you have ever been on a long hike it takes a while to get anywhere considering in the game you walk or runs most of the time it going to feel slow. There have been other games that have also done the long stretch of distance gameplay, The David Lynch/ Twin Peaks-inspired game "Deadly Premonition". I personally like my game world to feel big like the real world but not needing to be.
When the Alan Wake 2 trailer dropped, that's genuinely the most excited I've been for a game in a long time. At first I didn't know why I was so excited because I found the first Alan Wake to be just a good game. I liked the flashlight mechanic, and I thought the writing was interesting. However, no Remedy game has really ever resonated with me. I like Max Payne, Quantum Break, and Control, but the games have always been interesting concepts for action. But when they said Alan Wake 2 would be survival horror, I realized that's what made me so excited. The world Alan Wake is trapped in is so nebulous and sinister that it screams horror. I really hope they knock it out of the park.
I love Alan Wake. Sure its got it flaws, it does drag and the comat never changes, but its better than the sum of its parts. Oh and Kudos on the "just shut uppppp" segment, that was *chefs kiss*
I only just started playing Control recently despite being interested in it for a while and owning it for some time now. It's actually really really good.
The latin american dub of Alan Wake is quite superb on the voice direction. For the works of René Garcia (voice of Vegetta) voicing Alan and Alfonso Obregón (The voice of Shrek) voicing Barry the whole cast did an amazing job for this game.
Man, I can't wait for you to check out Control. I'd love to see a reaction to the Ashtray Maze section which is probably one of the most memorable scenes in all of gaming IMHO (please do keep that in mind, even if that's not what the channel is about).
PSA: For the Remaster (which is subtle but great), if you don't have access to DLSS, you can mod in FSR2/XeSS. It's also easily one of the best implementations of FSR2 on the market ironically enough. Identical in visuals to DLSS2. Played in 2023 in 1440p120 FSR2 Quality on an RX 5700 XT.
Remedy is like one of the few guys that somehow know how to write for games, but it's such an abstract thing I can't tell why it works with them exactly.
The embrace the medium instead of trying to imitate movies. Max Payne is a fairly dark and gritty revenge story but the gameplay is cool and fun third person action.
I played this game and had really no real issue in combat in fact the game was very fun even with limited inventory space and interactive to the point of fun enemy that had a large enough to keep the game rolling along and the story just add to the game fun.
Dumb title, good review. In the Remedy Universe, Alan Wake is a Lake not an Ocean. Control would be considered an Ocean. The difference is how large the scope of the threat is. If it can cross over to multiple games worlds then it’s bigger than a lake. Alan Wake as a series with the AWE content has shown it is now a lake connected to the ocean.
Though I'd heard a fair bit about Alan Wake over the years, playing Control (my favorite so far of Remedy's games) finally nudged me over the edge into playing Alan Wake. The way those two games are tied together is extremely clever.
After replaying control and getting to finally play the bright falls section, I had to replay Alan wake on my steam deck. Perfect game for that thing truly
I can't speak for Quantum Break, outside of a suggestion to look at the "Alan Wake Lecture" boards in the game, as well as some of the prototype Alan Wake 2 teasers in the game. Considering the nature of the Remedy-verse, I wouldn't be surprised if they were somehow relevant, but they are interesting regardless. That being said, Control. Do Not Sleep on Control. Putting aside how interesting the setting of Control is in the first place, there are quite a few references to Alan Wake in the game. I won't go into any direct spoilers, but the entire AWE expansion, and not just the Alan Wake scenes, is fairly important to the state of the world and some of the characters prior to Alan Wake 2. The expansion covers the FBC's investigation into the Bright Falls AWE, which serves as more of an outsiders study into everything that took place during Alan Wake 1, and during the decade that followed. Despite being DLC for Control, the AWE expansion should very likely be considered a refresher and follow up to Alan Wake, and a prologue to Alan Wake 2. It cleans up some of the loose ends left over from Alan Wake, and sets the stage for Alan Wake 2. Highly recommend checking it out before Alan Wake 2 drops. Also Control is amazing.
9:30 - I listen to videos at work to tune out the general office noise and usually only pay half-attention, so when you said "Alan Wake does drag", it confused the hell out of me because I genuinely thought you meant like drag performing, d'oh! I was like "wait, what?! I don't remember that part of the game!! Was Alan's fabulous lip-synching skills in the DLC?!" Derp. 😖
In all fairness, and maybe for some irony.. the place where Alan wake would have taken place, especially back then.. entirely dominated by AT&t, I couldn't get a signal at all on T-Mobile or Verizon.. which meant I LOL I was lost in the dark woods quite literally because it gets dark around 3:30 in the evening in the winter.. after I ended up 5 hours later in the exact place I started, I just got a hotel and quit until the daylight pretty much.. I found the last place in town that was open that served food within 10 minutes of it closing and I just was I was done LOL.. when I left I learned the trick was follow the trucks, they lead you to freedom.
Unlike Boulder Punch, I did not enjoy the 2 DLC Alan Wake got. Too much combat, not enough story. If you were to cut them out entirely, the main plot would still be the same. Makes me wonder why they even exist?
I really hope Alan Wake 2 doesn't take your guns away every time that Alan Wakes up to a new day. The original game is a masterpiece of atmosphere and story telling - but certain quirks with the gameplay and pacing have kept me from replaying it.
I love the nostalgia of it all... but the gameplay irked me... the clearing of the shadows was a chore... not fun gameplay.. like being asked to hoover before playing my xbox
the difference between alan wake and max payne is that this game is more of narrative experience with a bit of gameplay slapped on top. the tanky controls and weight of the characters movement add to the immersion that you are controlling a regular unathlethic writer .. plus i liked the visuals and artsyle of 2000s thriller movie look that being said it the gameplay loop is not fun for more than 2 episodes .. the flash light mechanics is good at first but its never expanded upon and get repetitive by the end .thankfully it wasnt that long.. because what kept me playing is the story it was like wsatching an average movie.. overall i was disapointed because this wasnt the direction i wanted games to take
Talking about the amount of ammo an such... its not a survival game. Its supposed to be a story in game form. A "psychology thriller" not a "i need heals let me scavenge and craft them out of grass and bugs... damn.. not many bugs around" kind of game..
I disagree with you about combat it was perfect and with more games made game like this, resident evil did this very poorly in camera view and even the remastered versions of boss that don't die like forever until the very end and just follow you through the first area like a plagued this game and sucks in boss fights more of an annoyance than fun.
Any Game willing and able to make fun of itself while providing fun for the audience and the player will always top any Triple AAA Schock that sells to be "Serious" and for "Mature Audiences only"
I cant agree with the opinion of no driving, as a big city resident i loved driving in the woods and in a small town. Alan wake was the most recent title i had in my xbox and the graphics blew me away, a driving sequence meant much more distance to cover and more stuff to see.

You're channel is still getting criminally underrated views, I hope you get the views you truly deserve soon
That’s weird you say control went on sale because I literally bought it this week on sale. You need to play that game it’s amazing
I LOVE this concept and only the insane elven Finnish can do it properly. You need real weirdoes for twin peaks successors.
Lol couldn’t agree more
When the Alan Wake 2 trailer dropped, that's genuinely the most excited I've been for a game in a long time.
I would have to buy an entire PS5
I love Alan Wake. Sure its got it flaws, it does drag and the comat never changes, but its better than the sum of its parts. Oh and Kudos on the "just shut uppppp" segment, that was *chefs kiss*
Oh hey lad
@@audiosurfarchive hahaha what up dude

My actor friend Brandon was the body and face they used for Barry Wheeler. Lucky bastard.
I only just started playing Control recently despite being interested in it for a while and owning it for some time now. It's actually really really good.
I hope you got to finish it! Truly a gem. I loved looking at and reading about all the awes! Especially that annoying rubber duck. Very SCP imo!
The latin american dub of Alan Wake is quite superb on the voice direction.
For the works of René Garcia (voice of Vegetta) voicing Alan and Alfonso Obregón (The voice of Shrek) voicing Barry the whole cast did an amazing job for this game.
Alan Wake fue el primer juego con doblaje Latino que jugué y no podía parar de escuchar a Marty de Madagascar en la voz de Barry jajsj
@@nicolasriveros943 Una increíble dirección la que hizo René Garcia la verdad.
more like ALAN WOKE! just kidding. sorry...
Alan wake voice is so good, could listen to 2k page book to his voice
I love Alan Wake because I discovered Poets of the Fall. They're pretty good.
I never got into the game; the flashlight thing was such a letdown for me.
Love Alan Wake, love Max Payne but haaaaated Control
October 17th Baby!
@@saisameer8771 nice jumping spider Avatar, thank you for putting into words for me.
Darkness within darkness awaits you!
Oh wait, wrong game...
P.S. Hyped for the sequel of this. First one was such a banger!
IDK why I really like your cadence, it gives me chills but in a good way.
I watched a friend play this through on release and it was a brilliant game. Still have Children of the Elder Gods in my playlists.
Previously on Alans Lake ....
If you guys want a movie to fill in that empty gap until Alan Wake 2 I suggest y'all watch The Dark Half by Stephen King
Good thing Mr. Scratch took a backseat to a -Norwegian- Black-Norwegian FBI agent lady...super engrossing in AW2...
Was Alan's fabulous lip-synching skills in the DLC?!"
Derp.
Remember when Silent Hill: Downpour ripped-off Alan Wake and then lied about it, claiming AW stole from the Silent Hill universe. Good times! XD
I've never played this i bought it but disk never worked in my xbox360 ,is it backwards compatible? If so i might try it in my xbox one.
As a fan of both Stephen King and Twin Peaks - two things this game borrowed heavily from - Alan Wake was fucking shit.
Why didn’t you play the remaster? I’m halfway through maybe I missed that part lol. I heard you mention it in the beginning but….
Okay I don't want to be that guy but it's "je ne sais pas" with a 'P' it's pronounced "paw" with the 'S' being just an exhale
Personally, Control is The game this studio.
But Alan Wake began it all.
No way due there's a Alan Wake two coming i must get this but you say this, but no site posted of it so i drought your right.
amazing video
I keep forgetting Max Payne, Alan Wake, Quantum Break and Control all take place in the same universe it's crazy
Just bought the remaster the other day. Weird timing.
I bought the old one. It was way too cheap and looks almost the same
Enjoy the game man
Love most things about this game except the combat and gameplay, its so repetitive and boring
the combat was definitely not fun and ruined the game for me. it became such a bore and i felt nauseated. such a waste.
You haven't played Control?! And you call yourself a boulder puncher? More like a donkey puncher 😂
Seriously though, great video. Big Alan Wake fan.
Play control nowwww
