Golf Drill for Proper Arm Rotation

  • This week’s video revolves around a simple drill that will help each one of you to really feel the proper rotation in the arms. Too many people out there have excessive tension in their arms and bodies when they set up to the ball (position #1). This drill will really help you to understand how easy it is to square the club up at impact using the natural rotation of the arms.
In this video I explain the issues surrounding Tiger’s swing faults and how we can learn from his resent
mistakes. The lessons learned by Tiger are ones that affect all of us as we get older. Our bodies can’t do what they did when we were younger. I truly believe that Tiger can once again be a dominating force in the golf world, but he can’t do it with the violent rotational swing of his past! He must learn to swing his arms and let his body follow the momentum of the arms. We can all become more consistent with less moving parts!

Dave a friend of mine looked at my golf swing and immediately said I was closed on the back swing he said imagine a dot on the inside of your left forearm and make it disappear right away, like a fanning effect to the club head. Hit some on the range, took it to the course shot two under. Bottom line it was the golf tip that saved my game!!!

This is helpful to me because I have trouble actually rotating the left arm in the backswing, tending to do it late or maybe not completely. By not initially rotating the torso, the arms are sort of forced to rotate early, and then I follow up with the torso rotation. I recall something Hogan said about the backswing sequence, first hands, then arms, then shoulder, then hips, and this seems to to coincide with your idea of how to begin the swing. Thanks.

Hold your upper left arm tight to your chest and rotate your left elbow as you take it back.

You said you are not supposed to swing the club around you but isn't that what actually happens when you practice with the club horizontal?

that is a very small window for error when the club face gets square but I think this video is exaggerating the feeling of letting your lead arm rotate. Like all pieces of the puzzle, add each piece with moderation.

Power comes from the body and moving the torso, this swing will not move the ball far imo

+wayne wentworth - sorry, most comes from arms and wrists

I think it's a combination of both. Too much of either will wreck your swing.
