“Not 100% Perfect” as somebody else mentions - A lot of people wouldn't have even taken this on. What you are doing for your customer is above and beyond. Your caring and attention to detail is a wonderful thing.
@@ivycycles thanks
Add me to the list who thinks you gone beyond the call of duty. You've essentially back haved the red Mustang as well as essentially restored it from one end to the other.
This is probably the most useful video series on 60s bodywork repair on youtube, practical and on a budget. You've got mad skills and you explain things very clearly. At some point, if you haven't already, you may want to look at the order of the videos in the playlist. Last i checked it was showing them in reverse order. This is worth seeing from start to finish and getting them in chronological order would help. Thanks for all of these.
Yes, I had difficulty following the sequence as well. I went back through and re-watched these a couple of times. I enjoy your repair work and find them interesting! Thank you!
I will check the playlist UA-cam does odd things sometimes
Still fascinating watching you rebuild this car. You may be losing money fixing it for the owner but you have gained a lot of fans doing it.
@@garyrothwell4539 sometimes you just have to do what's right by somebody. Too many crooks in this world.
@ 17:30 " I know that's gonna make a lot of people happy! " LMAO! Thank you for that!
@@cjcar63 it had to go 😆
Those funky GT 289 letters were annoying me as well. I'd have much LESS problem with 289 High Performance badges with the engine callouts vs the standard 289 ones
That was HIDEOUS! DO NOT buy stick on letters and numbers from Amazon and stick them on your vehicles!! GT350 was the only one I remember, and the 289 badge. If you want to make it your own, get professional help and pay for it!
Your “Not 100% Perfect” is probably better than 99% of the “100% Perfects” out there.
Truth
Preach!
It looks like you put a new roof on. Big improvent there. Hope to see this car in paint soon. Lotta work!
I'll feel some relief once it gets in a high build urethane primer after that it's all downhill
Said it before, and will say it again, THANK YOU for saving this car! People can say what they want but you have done a great service to this car by not making it scrap! Hacks don't fully weld panels or make sure they line up before the filler is applied! As for the 66, a stock looking road race car would be GREAT! Not full bodywork and painted either. Something that has a patina to it and is an honest car that someone would drive regularly. I hate people that buy cars and park them for years 😡
It's definitely coming around a little at a time!
Loved it when you pulled off that non OEM gt 289 AutoZone lettering. Makes me happy lol.
Me too!
Will finish video later cheers 🥂 Russ 😊 neighbor is here with excavator
Awesome 😎
Well, I know you like to fix cars to race, but those old mustangs are such iconic classics from the 60s, I would like to see it restored. Not as a show car, but a driver. Thanks for the videos!
I'll be releasing a video on it this weekend I'm working on getting it cleaned up so I can assess everything clean
As time goes by and we watch all the episodes on this crustang being saved, it's easy to forget how bad it was.
I know that while your in the zone your brain just keeps moving forward as your trying to do the best you can while not going overboard, fact is we always go a little overboard.
It gets hard to see the forest for the trees, but let me tell you in case you have any doubts ... that car is really looking good. Hats off to you sir, outstanding work 👍
Thanks for the kind words it's been a journey for sure
That’s a nice straight car you bought. You know me,I like fast backs
Hey, brother! Thanks for sharing not only the videos, but also the products you're using and your technique of using these products. It's much appreciated.
I was always an anti-filler guy, and tried to always use metal to get my fill, then scratch filling primer, primer, and paint. As for the factory seams, I always used lead. I know lead working is a dying art, I'm happy that I learned it, but it seems like they're constantly putting newer and better products out there for us to use.
BUT!!,
now, believe it or not, I believe you've changed my mind!
Especially the fact your USC 4060 all-metal filler is not going to attract moisture between it and the metal surface. I'm definitely going to have to look into it further, thanks! As always, I look forward to seeing more of the progress from basket case to masterpiece!
Until next time!😎🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
The all metal is good stuff but is a hard sand if you don't catch it at the sweet spot
Hey, I’ve been following these videos for a little bit now, just got a 65 coupe a few weeks ago that I’m working on restoring now. I’m working on replacing an entire rear frame rail at the moment. I’ve really enjoyed these videos, they help me keep going! Thanks and good work
Awesome glad I can be a motivation for your project! Keep plugging away
Despite feeling terrible that I traded off my 1968 Mustang (that I bought at auction for $1,100), I still love this. *Keeping my 1978 Firebird though.
That new bought '66 mustang looks to be a real solid project!
It's not horrible, and you can see everything that is there
I’m so impressed with how you work and how thorough you are. Again great job.
Thank you!
Removing the GT 289 had to be so satisfying! Kinda like pulling the plastic off of a new tv. 😂
Absolutely
@@HotRodGuyGarage The one and only GT 289, de-badged!
Funny, I wanted to buy that 65 body but didn't have time to go get it, glad you got it. Ya snooze ya lose and I did just that.. I bought a 66 for my wife this week that I needs a little body work, I sent you a email the other day. I live about a hour from you.
It's nice to see it starting to look like a real solid car, even if it's not much underneath.
It will end up being a decent old car for sure
@@HotRodGuyGarage I know it will be able to drive straight without feeling like a blender.
Or rattling apart
Good job, sir!
@@strokermaverick thanks again for the kind words
Nice work buddy, just a side note using cardboard to spread filler will suck the moisture out and dry up to soon, invest in an onion board you will notice the difference.
Noted
I have used that All Metal filler and it's worth the money. Your doing a good job. I figure you have at least 3 different coats to put the plastic filler on a panel to make things straight. Looking forward to the next video.
I've been using the all metal for years now it's a heck of a hard drying filler
When you started this project, I think you said that the customer didn’t want to go too deep into it. Obviously, you’re now deep into it. I’m wondering what the customers thoughts are now?
Sometimes you just half to jump on in as you find more bad. He watches all the videos
A road race 66 coupe would be cool. I’ve thought about doing that with a 67 for years.
I thought so too
I can’t believe you didn’t like the custom GT 289 emblems 🤣🤣🤣
I know a bunch have been waiting on them to go 😆
This is the right way to do it wrong, I approve
Thanks for watching!
Had this car came along before you started on the other one, I think it might have been tempting to transplant the drive train, interior, and suspension into this one after doing all the body work it needed.
@@fooledman absolutely
An asphalt stocker would be cool.
I thought so
I think you should restore the 66 Mustang to be a roadworthy car to highlight how much faster and better starting with a decent chassis means. I'm guessing you could sell it for a decent amount.
A decent chassis to start with around here is going to set you back almost 20k for a roller for a fastback and about 10k for a coupe like the red one. That's nuts money for an incomplete 40+ year old car.
True, when I mentioned race car it was more about looks then actually making one
There definitely getting ridiculous. This one was too good of a car to be a parts car or get crushed
@@HotRodGuyGarage I just scored a 71 2 door Maverick with almost zero rust for 700 bucks last night and am getting ready to get it now as I type this. Finding a 95% rust free 71 anything in West Tn is rare and then it not costing me a donated kidney is another. Its a base model 6 banger but its solid and has a title and thats all that matters to me atm lol.
@@damianlindsey6177 definitely a good score I've had several mavericks
Another awesome video. You definitely doing a good job. Why didn't you like the Kmart 289 emblems 😅😅. The new Mustang does look honest and a good car. It's so honest be a shame to change it into a race car. But that's just my opinion.
I didn't think anyone likes those emblems 😆
The new one isn't a horrible car at least what you see is what it is and was a good deal. When I talked about racecar I meant more in appearance then actually using it as one
@@HotRodGuyGarage those emblems definitely we're terrible.
The new car is going to be awesome anyway you build it.
The work and way you are doing it is how it should be done and it's looking great. That roof looks soooo much better then it did before.
As for your new toy...I would love to see it put back together as a clean driver given the projects out there nowadays are brutally hacked up disasters that people expect top dollar for because it's a Mustang. BUT, the fact it is a bare car is a big bonus and it looks pretty good versus what the 65 started as once the sins were revealed. As for the GT crap...LOL...i would have taken that crap off before it went in...crooked as all heck plus of course it's somebody stupid made up thing.
All is all another good video...a good course on application of filler and all that goes with it...including showing how most becomes dust on the floor LOL.
I'm hoping he will have a car at the end he can be proud of and will last many years
A door glass from an old car makes a better condo board than cardboard.
True
Gee the hood in good condition you must have been overjoyed to find one panel not rusted dinged or full of bondo have to agree the 66 in primer looks like a much more honest car
It appears the hood is in good shape, hopefully that won't be another surprise it's at least straight in the reflection and no sanding scratches so there is hope!
I was hoping you were going to remove those cheesy GT 289 badges!
Just been waiting on the right time
What does it have ? Just an empty body ? Would have saved a lot of work.
Basically
Fastback conversion
This is going to be a partial restoration this car was a mess
Absolutely I want him to have something to be proud of
More a case of a total resto from the dash/firewall on back
Restore it.
It's a possibility I'll be releasing a video on it this weekend
There's too much patina these days.... restore it ... patina is candy coated rust and junk...
It's a possibility
Agreed on too much patina. Comes across as lazy, but that is just me. I vote for restoration to a daily driver, with an original engine/transmission….
