I watched that Trooping the colour attempt live on television( Im that old) he stood straight in front of the queens horse and fired the gun,her horse reared right up ( dont forget she was riding SIDE SADDLE) and only her exreme skill will horses stopped her from falling off. He was jumped on and dragged way and she carried on without turning a hair,wonderful wounderful lady.
It wasn't really an assassination attempt as it was blanks.

I was there when the blanks were fired. I used to go to the trooping of the colour every year as a child. One year the weather was very bad and I was fed up. The Queen was coming straight towards us in horse guards parade. Just before she turned she looked straight at me with a warm smile. I think she was saying cheer up we have all had a long wet day. Prayers for her majesty today as she has contracted covid.

I used to work for a pharmaceutical company in Windsor that backed onto the Windsor and Eton Riverside train station. When the Queen came to Windsor Castle by train. All buildings were searched by royal protection with sniffer dogs. We'd get a company wide email. Be on your best behaviour and don't do anything silly or you'll get knicked and you're on your own if that happens, as the company won't do anything to help you out.

Yes and around 2 weeks ago he has been charged with Treason. So he's going to get the book thrown at him for sure. Unless the Queen pardons him for just reasons. However, it clear he probably has underlying problems.

Her most recent assassination attempt was December last year. Some kid with a crossbow broke into Windsor castle with the intention of killing her. Turned out to be some crazy guy who had posted videos to the internet talking about his plan.

Hi JT! To answer your question about how things are kept under wraps for so long. In the UK and Australia there is this thing called 'The Thirty Year Rule' (although in the UK this has been changed to The Twenty Year Rule). These are laws which state that information over government decisions can be kept restricted for 30/20 years after that time has passed then it can be released. This done it is said to spare the people responsible for it in the first place embarassment as usually those people may have passed away by then. Of course not all info gets released this way as the people may still be alive and there are papers over a hundred years old that have not been released.

JT, The household doesn't need attention at the moment I believe.
Sentences in prison here and I think most other places are really short compared to the US. Prison here is supposed to be focused on rehabilitation rather than punishment. I say supposed because unless the sentence is quite long I don't think there's much rehabilitation. They usually offer adult education courses. The only people who seem to get locked up for life are serial killers, people who are a danger to the public and that's usually psychiatric hospital rather than prison. People who are convicted of sex offences in my opinion get pitiful sentences and prob very little rehabilitation.

The UK no longer possesses a penal system that works, JT. It has only been over the past 30 or so years that many of our original prison buildings have been replaced with modern facilities (and while most were Victorian, a handful were founded many centuries earlier). Despite an increase in the numbers of places available, our prison population is somewhere in the region of 30% higher than it is designed for - largely due to an acute lack of suitable psychiatric hospital facilities for the mentally ill - who are often sent to prison for relatively minor crimes for the simple reason that there is nowhere else available to care for them... Also, drug laws in the UK criminalises the entire supply chain and so, the bulk of the violent criminals who have the longest sentences have committed drug-related crimes that might otherwise not exist as such. Whatever, the vast majority of the UK prison population are repeat offenders - usually because they are raised in awful, concrete ghettoes with massive social problems that successive governments again, largely choose to pay only lip service towards resolving; and therefore prison offers the lifestyle certainties such as accommodation, food and comradery that they need not work for; and which is often missing from their lives outside. Our governments therefore tend to 'process' criminals much quicker in the UK than they might be in the US or elsewhere...
I too remember watching the 1981 Trooping of the Colour on television; and seeing the police restrain the gunman, as the Queen simply comforted her horse and carried on as if nothing had happened... I think that may have been the last time that she rode on horseback at that event - in full scarlet uniform with ostrich-feathered hat, of course! She really is some lady!! I remember the reactions in the press, too, with one guardsman summing up what everyone else was feeling: "How dare he fire blanks at out Queen!" he was reported to have exclaimed, indignantly. "I nearly bayoneted him!" (And if you check out some real footage, you'll see they had some pretty scary steel bayonets in those days - not the shorter, chunkier versions they have upon today's weapons!)

Treason used to carry the sentence of being Hung, Drawn, and Quarted. Hung until they were nearly dead, then they were disembowelled, and their intestines placed in a fire, (this sometimes included their genitals!), which they were usually shown, then they were beheaded, (and they hoped the guy wasn't like the axeman Jack Ketch, who bungled the Duke of Monmouth's execution, 6 blows with the axe, and he still had to use his knife to finish the job!), and then finally, their heads were placed on London Bridge, and their body was cleaved into Quarters, and sent to the four corners of the country! All this on a scaffold, in front of hundreds of people, who were out for a "nice day out!"

Thanks for posting the video - I had no idea! A lot of sentances in the UK are lenient. Technically, the only crime for which you can be executed for in the UK is Treason, it wouldn't happen, but it is a serious offence. She's a survivour and hopefully will soon recover from Covid.
In correct the death penalty is no longer legally allowed in the UK in any circumstances when the UK acceded to the 13th Protocol of the European Convention on Human rights (which was signed on the 4 November 1950 in rome) on the 1st of February 2004.
