Hello Mary, I have amassed quite a collection on interior design books due to your wonderful channel. I find your soft-spoken voice to be very relaxing. Not only am I glued to your explanation of these beautiful books, but I also look forward to your commentary afterward. Watching your channel with a cup of coffee by my side or that evening glass of wine is one of the highlights of my day!
I can't believe you were painting upon that Gorgeous table cloth. I was just holding my breath!!!! Good Job, Mary! You are neat as a pin! love your videos..... I learn so much!
That's sweet of you. I buy remnant pieces at a local fabric store for just a few dollars and make tablecloths with them. This was a very inexpensive one, but you are right, my grandmother was probably holding her breath also. 😁
"A Flair for Living" is actually a great title for a Moss book. Ms Moss has a wonderful flair for details, which I think is one of her most admirable qualities as a designer. Great review... and it looks like a wonderful book. Thank you, Mary. Cheers!
Thanks, Cooper. You are right. CM wrote "every space is like setting a scene and I find that I approach the details of a room like a set designer." I also appreciate her quote: "good design is thoughtful".
I agree, but it is tedious work. I only had two 11x14 frames and was exhausted by the time I had finished them. The next time I will purchase larger pieces of gold leaf. 😁
I enjoyed this review showing the talent of Charlotte Moss. She has an exceptional eye for detail. I prefer the gold leaf because it adds a beautiful textural quality. Thank you!🌺
Hello Mary, I enjoyed learning more about Charlotte Moss and her decor! Both frames turned out beautifully. This is something I have never considered doing and find it amazing what a difference a little time and effort can make! Have a wonderful day and I will see you in the next one! Hugs! :)
Charlotte Moss is one of my very favorite designers. A flair for living describes her style to a tee. So much great information is in her books. They read like she is setting next to you chatting! Lovely project Mary! Have a fun time at the flower show….I’m in Kansas, sounds like such a charming southern event🤗❣️
Mary, this is an enchanting review of the Charlotte Moss book “ A Flair for Living.” Thoughtfulness in decorating and everything we do is a very important feature of a life well lived. I loved the idea of painting the picture frames. Your wall looks beautiful. Can’t wait for next week’s photos of the Azalea Festival. Have fun tomorrow. 💐💐💐💐
Thank you, Karen. I agree whole heartedly; thoughtfulness in everything we do is key to a life well lived. I am human, and sometimes lapse in this effort, but I try my best not to.
Mary, I hope you are considering writing your own book on living a thoughtful and gracious life. You have enough material with photos from your own home and gardens. You can also have chapters on flower arranging, gardening, arts and crafts for the home, tablescapes and so much more. You have so much to offer us all on elegant living. 💕💕💕
Great Review. I am definitely going to look for this book. I like the gold leaf the best because it looks so rich. Look forward to seeing festival pictures next week. Enjoyed!
Great project for empty wall. The group of frame with pictures or flowers is good idea for any area at any house. The frames with gold paint or gold leaf leaves is wonderful idea to review our frame at home refresh our frame to keep them attractive.. Wonderful book. Thank you.. Enjoy this weekend with visitors. Please keep safe new covid..
Great review of Charlotte Moss. Astonished she's not formally trained in Interior Design! Love the gold leaf! Excited to see scenes from the Azalea Festival, next week. Thank you so much for this fab video post. I look forward to them and always learn something new. All the Best!
Such a lovely book. I loved your gold frame experiment. How nice the Azalea festival sounds. I’m looking forward to seeing your photos next week. Have a lovely Saturday.
A great video on C M work, stunning details and so boldly beautiful. I also love how shared your talent creating a guided frame and to that I say more!
I love Charlotte Moss work, thank you so much for the book review! I really love your side by side comparison, can't decide which I like most. But the ultimate display looks lovely!❤ Mary, I wanted to thank you again for your Marjorie Post book review. I visited the estate this past week, it was SO beautiful! The antique collection were just gorgeous, and the garden tour was a delight! They had planted 25,000 tulip bulbs! It was a fabulous added tour to our Alexandria VA trip. 😊 Once again, thank you so for sharing your book reviews with us!!!
I am tickled pink that you were able to go. I bet the tulips were beautiful. Was it crowded? I have a trip planned for June and can't wait. Thank you for letting me know.
@The Tartan Topiary It was not crowded, we went on Tuesday and we had reservations. The docent guided tours were so helpful! Actually, we found that this week was great for DC and Alexandria during the week. We arrived late on Saturday. We noticed how busy everything was on the weekend compared to weekdays. I hope you have a wonderful time on your June trip! Once again, thank you so much for sharing!🤗

Thank you, as always, for your inspirational videos and ideas for making home more beautiful and inviting 🤗 Makes me want to visits your city, especially during the festival!!
And isn't it amazing how she uses books as ACTUAL books to be read, rather than the asinine decorators that shelve them spine side in as props without a purpose! Love Charlotte Moss. She's the real deal.
I saw an interview with Robert Kime and he said the same thing about some of his design peers. He didn't like the "book as a prop" look either. I appreciated that!
Thanks! Enjoyed this. Also appreciated paint vs. gold leaf. Had been wanting to give some bits and pieces a golden sheen. You've lit a fire under me to get started
Thanks so much for this video, Mary! I was so inspired by it I went looking for the book and watched the video twice! There is nothing like being surrounded by fine, old, beautiful things to make me feel perfectly contented in my own home! Charlotte Moss has been a favorite designer of mine for a long time---I love her way of decorating and her warm Southern charm! Lovely picture frames---sometimes mismatched is even more of an interesting match! Happy Spring!
For you to know and understand that "being surrounded by fine, old, beautiful things" puts you ahead of so many people. I have worked with many people that don't know what makes them content in their own home. Good for you and thanks for your kind words.
@@thetartantopiary I simply cannot imagine being detached from my deeply spiritual and creative senses---my home is the sanctuary of my body, mind & soul! Hi Mary, this book is full of exuberant collections. Absolutely fantastic tassels!! She has a special touch and a very good eye on how to combine different styles. Like your project today. I will like to paint a frame holding a mirror and need something not too bright so will use gold paint. It's an old brown frame, very plain rather large that I found discarded in the basement of our NY apt building in 1982. Mirror is very heavy and of good quality. I think it belonged to a bedroom set. I have been debating how to do it and now with your simple instructions will try my luck. What color did you use in your project ?? and what type of brush ?? Thank for sharing this useful idea. Will get all materials when I go back for my yearly trip home . 👋
Hi Martha- this was a fun project. I will get all of the information (color of paint and type of brush) and place it in the description within the next few hours. 😁
Mary, I watched all your videos over the last week on every designer! I especially liked all the personal extra touches you include about your life, your family, your beautiful home and your cats! We love cats too. The music you add and your walking tours are so relaxing! I will be purchasing more of your craft ideas and books! Thank you! I live in California and want to recommend visiting “Filoli Gardens and Estate” in Woodside, CA. It is my favorite go to gardens. I dont think there is a book on it though. You might enjoy a visit in May 😁when everything is blooming. ~Jennifer
Wow- I apologize for the early ones. I had no experience at all and the quality showed that. You are kind with your compliments, thank you. I definitely love cats and all creatures. Thanks for the suggestion of Filoli Gardens and Estate. I’m going to research that. Thanks again and I’ll see you in the next video! 😉
Thank you for the art supplies for making Paint Pouring by aNicky James Burch. I did one painting when I was 8 or 9 years old. I gave it to my grandmother. It started out as a paint by numbers set. I can sketch, edit art books, but I am not adept with a brush, yet. I was surprised when I got the package. I thought I was getting your art, and I wouldn't have to work! I am laughing and quite happy to make art. I saw a sign recently, EartH has "ART" in the center. One day I will make the musical wreath with the circle from the pizza cardboard I cut out. I need to do something inspired by you, and not an exact copy. Thank you for all the inspiration so far. It helps. I have prints President Eisenhower painted, and the same frame with a painting from New Orleans on top. I enjoyed the gilding and painting of frames. I have never done gilding with flakes or strips. I once had a batik framed and the frame shop made a mistake and ordered a quite expensive frame and although it was a mistake, I have really treasured it. I am not afraid of painting a mat for an oil frame. I think it made a difference--although it was not gold. Where the veneer is peeling up, I want to put gold leaf on my Great-grandmother's buffet table. It is Queen Anne. It came from North Carolina. She lived in Minnesota.
I'm glad you got them. The paint goes further than you think. I wish there had been more. Enjoy! And I love that you can't spell "earth" without "art"!

Great book,I have several of hers just got new Flowers Book…….the embroidered fabric is breathtaking, but sadly I can look at pictures but not afford but that’s OK Can’t imagine 3000 in my garden ,good job on gold leaf💗🌿🍃
I sometimes wonder if we would appreciate those things (embroidered silk fabric) as much as we do if they were easily obtained. I once canceled a vacation so I could put that money toward fabric for a duvet and drapes. I never regretted it and still love the fabric. As far as 3000 in my garden; it was a bit much, but fun at the same time. I definitely couldn't do it every year.
