I notice when people talk about the best solos in rock and metal, its rarely the ones that are super flashly and hyper technical. Its always the ones that conjour the most emotion, whether that be sadness or anger, and *sometimes* those solos will be fast/technical but not always. Tornado of souls and crazy train are a good example, theyre difficult and fast but theyre good not because of the complexity but because of the articulation of the notes and the emotion or "feel". Freezing moon's solo isnt that hard to play but it gives me goosebumps everytime
First solo: 0:40 - 1:41 (from "Twilight of the Gods") Second solo: 1:41 - 2:31 (from "Pestilence Shall Come") Third solo: 2:32 - 4:07 (from "In My Last Mourning...") Fourth solo 4:08 - 5:01(from "Capitel I: I troldskog faren vild") Fifth solo 5:02 - 6:00 (from "Freezing Moon")
All great solos! My favourite bm solo from this year is probably from the song aurora from Saor’s Origins album. Atleast from the top of my head. So beautiful when the guitar solo joins the bagpipes
Funny, before watching your video, I immediately thought of Bathory's "One Rode to Asa Bay" and the first solo you did was Bathory's "Twilight of the Gods." Love your selection of fav's. Awesome stuff!
With Strength I Burn still has one of my favourite solos. Not just black metal, but all time.
That’s an all timer for sure!

Definitely! Especially about the "Freezing Moon" solo!
In this case is just that black metal lacks solos generally
I'm glad you included it Twilight of gods! It's one of my absolute favourite solos. Simple but fits the song perfectly! 🤘
But it's not a black, it's viking metal. Despite the fact that before Bathory was a black metal band.
Glad he included Ulver
Oh, yes! Ulver's "I Troldskog Faren Vild" is so good (even with the solos).
One of the best black metal tracks ever made.
All of these are great, I'm glad you put Advent Sorrow up there. They've become a really big band for me these last few years. Well done!
The freezing moon solo is better than the whole Indian music industry...
10000%
ulver is my alltime favorite
Man that blue guitar is just beautiful with that solo
First solo: 0:40 - 1:41 (from "Twilight of the Gods")
Second solo: 1:41 - 2:31 (from "Pestilence Shall Come")
Third solo: 2:32 - 4:07 (from "In My Last Mourning...")

Great solos beautiful played! Thy Light and Ulver are amazing!
Waters of Ain Watain has a beautiful solo.
Succubus in Rapture solo is beautiful.
Shining has my favorite solos of black metal and possible all metal
I must not know as much as i thought about black metal because ive never thought of black metal as containing solos
It will surprise you a lo twhen you get to know the part of black metal that do have solos.
Great solos, all well executed, for us to see and hear up close! Thanks, Simon!

Shining for the god below
All profound, all have their own message. Sem's work on 'Waters of Ain' is immortal too
That Thy Light piece is really good

Yesss I was waiting for Mayhem. Thanx Simon
Freezing moon is the base 😎🤘
Honorable mention to Watain - Waters of Ain
For me it's Solitude by Drudkh the GOAT
Amazing!
great so see bathory on the list!
For me it's the intro solo in Dreaming In Red by Dismember.
Nice!!! Big Time fan and subscriber
Arcturus - To thou who dwells in the night
100%
Excellent work! Awesome solos
I was expecting some Dissection (sad) but GREAT video my friend lml
You ought to feature Kvist in a video at some point. For Kunsten Må Vi Evig Vike is an incredible album.
it is!
Love Advent Sorrow!
Thanks for this.
Great video Simon!! Thanks 🙏 it would be great If you could someday make a tutorial video on any bathory solo you like )))
where dead angels lie solo is a great one too!
Very nice Simon ! Thank you
Great work Simon, that was awesome man 😀🤘🎵🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
While not a ‘trve kvlt’ black metal band, Agalloch did have a couple of killer solos on The Mantle.
Very beautiful
Won't keep asking but if you can do a vid for Malakhim, A Thousand Burning Worlds that'd be delightful.
Wow 👍
It was only after hearing the solo of Grausamkeit - unendlichkeit der depressionen that I realised what I was meant to be: true kvlt.
thy light is the best one 🤘
gorgoroth-gorgoroth solos are great too❤
I liked kings of carnival creation sólo 🤙 but the first sólo is 😌🤟🤟🤟
Special thanks for admitting Ulcer’s solo
Shining's Neka Morgondagen solo is really soulful
I'll check it out
ua-cam.com/users/shortsHPGacgIaayU?feature=share listen to Ola Englund doing some blues improv-it sounds a lot like Shining
"For The God Below" from the Redefining Darkness album, may not qualify as "KVLT" but the two solos in this song are among the best I have ever heard
@@AlexxxGrrr it's a nice song but the lyrics are cringe
@@damnedbelowjudas_ You've summed up the majority of Shining
thy light is masterpiece in solos... rly
i love advent sorrow
Great selection, but I did expect something from GBK
🤘🤘🎸🎸🎶🎶
🤘🤘🤘
Please do a nagelfar how to play !
Caladan brood have an amazing solo in off their songs on echoes of battle?
Ha! I got 'thumbs up #420".
Puff puff.
;)!~~
Where dead angels lie are?
Hey Simon…what type of Schecter is the blue one??
Almost looks like a C-1 Platinum, but it doesn’t have the EMG 81/85’s!!
It's a Blackjack buddy
Any chance you'd have the time for that Bathory solo lesson?
Which one? I get a lot of requests
@@SimonSmithGuitar Twilight of the gods. The first one from your video :-)
@@HurlockVanguard Yes I can do that!
@@SimonSmithGuitar That would be amazing. Thanks! I love that solo
Freezing moon?
Mayhem
