The if cancer gave you better rng, bungie would find a cure in 15 minutes joke killed me
People don’t get that oftentimes disabling an item is something even an intern can do by modifying some spreadsheet.
Actually fixing a bug requires engineer time, triaging, debugging, programming, testing, fixing regressions, testing again, certification, etc…
Even though it’s only a joke, it’s so true
@@Yogarine I definitely believe that its easier its just funny how often it happens
@Yogarine stop with the Bungie dick riding. Jesus, you people would defend Bungie if they killed your entire family.
Sometimes you don’t fix the easier, beneficial bug, because the optics aren’t good. Let people have their toy and fix it with a bigger nastier bug that people want fixed
In terms of cut content, The Red War was the single worst elimination. That campaign was so effective at setting up the world, making the stakes understandable and introducing the characters effectively. Making the Red War available as the introduction to new players would be a vast improvement over the current cosmodrome / shaw han intro sequence.
Red war would be a perfect launch for new players. Post campaign there could be a cutscene briefly explaining events up to Lightfall.
@@the_filthy_macgyver 100%.
Ive had more than one friend arrive at the Tower as a new player and think Zavala was just a random vendor. There's something very wrong with that.
You guys significantly overexaggerate the significance of a campaign. Having to go through all the campaigns on each character is a major reason that stops people from hopping in. There is so much progression to catch up on. Nobody cares about not understanding the story
Even a trimmed down version would be massively better then what we got just something that better explains our place and motivation of what we are playing for instead of "there's this hive witch that killed a guardian... and their dead now good job... anyways head to the tower and check out Eververse"
What he said about "messing up is just keeping players who didnt even want to do the activity inside the activity when all they wanted was quick loot" is soooooo accurate.
The part that really spoke to me was about the social aspects. I absolutely love the dungeons and the one or two raids I’ve done, but it is so anxiety inducing going into those activities not knowing the mechanics, with randoms. All the different clans I’ve tried joining are radio silent all the time. They really need to do something there.
I’m in a clan and it’s mostly just old dudes who say about 5 words per raid lol
I have had good luck with clans mostly but the easiest way of finding people to play with is through smaller youtubers/streamers discords. I have found TDT to be the most active one I joined for pvp and pve. Im more of a pvp player so mostly just joined private matches but there are also a decent amount of people doing raids and dungeons.
Actually got me to. Was like holy shit that’s one helluva point. Been playing since d1 and I might be befriended a single person…kinda crazy to think about .
Anyone play on console? Add me as a friend because i feel the same way.
Right now im playing diablo buy ill be back to destiny soon. Would love to have some friends to game with
My clan has a dedicated fellow for new run through, we also do lfg for endgame. The main mindset of my clan is that everyone is busy, video games aren't jobs and it makes it less fun to be pressured to complete or research anything. If anyone wants, I play on console and I am available to help also I'm a lore buff and can do in-depth explanations to help.
The “I hate Destiny, it’s my favorite game,” feels so much more common now a days.
It's weird because the game can be fun, and sometimes I look forward to getting on. But after about an hour or so of playing it, I just get bored out of my mind because there's nothing to do, and what there is left to do is just mind numbing repetitive. I end up spending more time sitting in orbit than playing the actual game
@Jason Kerbs I completely agree. Lightfall was a massive letdown, and I hopped off shortly after it dropped. I quickly realized HOW boring and deficient Destiny is after playing a few other games.
Bungie has been milking Destiny to an extreme for far too long.
@@jasonkerbs806 same brother, same
love destiny, hate bungo for how terrible they are at managing it and making it grow into a better game. They are terrible.
The game is one of the best but the engine is done for and the devs are incompetent in all aspects.
Improving the base game and adding back the old pvp maps that were taken out alone would fix multiple retention issues, post that an overhaul in terms of gear needs to be done bu lock-ing out myriads of broken things from pvp and re buffing them in pve so we can have multiple cool broken builds to have fun with.
it is wild to hear the DLC prices and thinking of what they had
then seeing Lightfall
Yep. Forsaken + the Annual Pass (Black Armory, Joker's Wild, and Opulence) was max $80 and gave us 3 new raids (all of which were BANGERS despite some lackluster loot near the end), a dungeon, 2 destinations, 5 activities, a good slew of PvP maps, almost a handful of strikes, and a good handful of exotic missions. Lightfall's Deluxe Edition for $100 gave us 1 destination (made up of 85% reused assets and has a vendor that is the "writer's barely disguised fetish" meme incarnate), 1 "raid", 2 dungeons, 2 activities (if we count the repayable campaign as one), four exotic quests - which might get bumped to six if there is one per season and we count them, and one strike. I think Bungie said something about a new Crucible map for next season, but I'm not sure. One of these is clearly either undervalued or the other is extremely overpriced.
@@joshuavidrine889Holy shit. Yeah lightfall sucks god we are not at a good point in this game
@@joshuavidrine889 while true, you also have to remember that Bungie and two different other companies worked on forsaken. That alone should say that they were never compatible for soloing expansions
On fucking god.
@@Muffled83 they just got an extraordinary amount of money and support from Sony. They are absolutely capable of making another Forsaken, but they've made it clear their goal is quantity over qaulity, they will never spend extra time to make an expansion fantastic again, they will continue to be glorified seasons
I love these kinds of videos. I wish more UA-camrs would make more of this kind of content so bungie can address issues they’ve been keeping quiet about.
They won't, Aztecross is one of the only real ones and it's because he's the GOAT
people when joker and others talked about issues with the game:”no, you are blind hater of the game and you are wrong, i will provide no arguments against you, but you are still bad >:( “
people nowadays:”why nobody talking about the issues of the game? how did we get there and why was we blind to all the problems?”
no offence to you tho since i don’t know who you are or what opinion you have, it’s just funny for me as someone who played destiny from d1 launch to d2 witchqueen
@@LixMyurchurskiy Jokers great, always love his vids
Countless videos have been made for years now, they don't care because they know you'll be back. All it takes is to think to quit this series, it's only at the precipice that these companies change.
Address issues? It's the whole game. The core of it stinks. Need a new Destiny.
My favorite moment in all of Destiny is in D1 wandering the cosmodrome and I went down a set of stairs into the black abyss and got one shot by Hive who were way over my current level. It startled me and add some risk to exploration which I didn't feel anytime in D2. I bailed on D2 years ago when sunsetting was announced because I didn't like the idea of content being taken away, and then the over reliance on the seasonal model with no way to play past seasons just made me feel punished for wanting to play other games. These live service games lock players into their ecosystem by FoMo and then act shocked when those same players become toxically enraged by lack of content. What do you expect to happen when you lock an animal in a box and then don't feed it? That doesn't excuse the gamer's behavior or anything, but cause and effect is a thing. Shame to see a game with so much promise boil itself down to bare bones just to fit an increasingly dated service model.
Hive guardians were that for me as someone who didn't really play D1
Bro, same thing happened to me, probably in the same spot
I remember that. I recently built a new gaming rig, and installed D2, the map screen had more signs than time square all selling stuff. Knew I made the right call to walk away years ago. Too bad the gameplay itself was super solid. Loved D1
This comment is exactly what i want to say, there’s just a feeling that d2 lost
@@logangant7732 I think that D1 had a mistery to it, a feeling of discovery that somehow got lost when we realized that we're just playing farming simulator
Seeing them announce Marathon like they did made me understand why Eramis hates the Traveler so much. Bungie itself, IS The Traveler. They transition their focus from game to game and like Halo we had to watch them leave that franchise behind. They will do the same to Destiny 2. So my advice, enjoy things while you can. Change is constant. So always be prepared to adapt to it....Take it easy.
Upper tier comment
The traveler moves to a planet seeking safety from the darkness. When it’s safety feels threatened, it leaves to another population. Bungie makes a game, seeking money from meaningless microtransactions and over priced DLCs. When their player base stops paying for their ridiculous money making schemes, they leave to another game.
To me Marathon seems almost *Destined* to fail if it gets handled with as much vagueness as D2. At the very least D2 has multiple modes and a seasonal story to follow, Marathon is just the Dark Zones from The Divison but in space, not exactly something gamers are dying to do right now.
Bungie didn't leave Halo behind just because they wanted to. They wanted to become decoupled from Microsoft and in the process, MS kept the rights to Halo. Bungie developing Marathon does not mean they will abandon Destiny, y'all are just dramatic.
@@chair2355 Once the Final shape expansion realeases, I can see a lot of people dropping Destiny 2 and Bungie knows this. The game will be approaching 7-8 years old at that point.
The closest friend I have ever had, I met in a Vault of Glass run on D1. I loved him like a brother, which is how I saw him. He took his life in 2018, shortly after the release of Forsaken, and not a day has gone by where I haven't thought about him. As strained as my relationship is with Destiny, I will always be grateful to Bungie for creating a game that allowed me to meet him.
I'm very sorry for your loss.
Sorry for your loss. RIP to your friend
that is so sad man. sorry
And now instead of mens mental health month, we get to comstantly get lectured by bungie about why we should promote and spread mental illness and mutilate kids and pass out hormone blockers.
@@coachcoopfitness don't use something like this to push your transphobia you prick, both are important
The part where cross talked about all live service games competing for time is so true.
Season of Defiance was the first season i have not completed the season pass. I haven’t played any of Deep yet. After lightfall, and the marathon reveal, i felt like my money and time were not being valued by bungie anymore. I’ve returned to an older MMO, a game that’s giving me a sense of progression and PvE challenge that is better to me than the seasonal grind. Hope bungie figures this out and reinvests in Destiny. I’ll be back for the final shape probably, but for now, I’m out
Oh they absolutely value your money, but not your time lmao
Literally in the same place. I have played since HoW, and over time I've started to feel a bit burnt out. Took some breaks over the last 2 years here and there.
But the killer for me was Lightfall, which outside of Strand and the some of thr Quality of life changes was actually quite poor. Now a few months before, I bought PS Plus Extra to get access to the games library. I got a special price, but it had to be renewed recently at full price. IT WAS THE SAME PRICE AS THE DELUXE EDITION!
I have played the Horizon series for the first time, Civ 6, God of War, Rachet & Clank, Division 2 etc. FOR THE SAME PRICE.
I just can't anymore. I loved Destiny for so long, but I'm not your bankroll for future games. The whole point of games are to have fun, and I'm not having fun anymore.
Lol the amount of time you have to spend FISHING to complete some of the triumphs haha I'm a completions completions completions completions completionist and I'll be sure to sit those out
Guild Wars 2 was supposed to be my getaway from Destiny 2 eneded up being my main game lol, now that I have cut off the cancer that is destiny, I notice that other games aren’t that toxic lol
People think they want answers to their questions but what they really want is to always be searching for the answers. In D1 I always felt like I was searching, sometimes literally in the case of Cayde's rumored stache or the Exo Stranger. In D2 I find almost every answer I look for. The unknown, both the fear of it and the draw towards it just isn't there anymore in D2. This is why From Software gets so much praise, it keeps you in the unknown.
I'll leave you with this. In D1 I gave a speech to my fellow Guardians at the Tower and they sat down and listened to a random hunter in a tree talking about how the world needs real Guardians (and how I was recruiting). In D2...I guess I can fish now at least.
I’m worried that after the content we’ve gotten since vicarious visions left, it seems like they were the ones that made all the good content.
@@LoFoSho What content is that? I'm not familiar
@@Jfahnestock they made spire of stars and eater of worlds, the two raid lairs that were available on the leviathan
@@KevinGarcia-xq7ym ah i see, thanks
I remember playing d1 and after 2years people find out about the existence of other chest in the vault of glass, i remember there were rumor about a 7th chest that was never found.
Now is just a monthly copy-paste activity full of micro transaction, overpriced dlc and season pass.
I left d2 after the first year, no more money for this useless company
As a Shadowkeep New Light, I can attest to the loss of exploration. My first day on D2 was spent mostly in the EDZ patrol area. I haven’t stepped foot in a patrol in weeks now, except for fishing and to get to a legend lost sector
It's soulless really. This along with enemies not being buffed and updated like the player. The lighting, environment and atmosphere not being up there D1. Imagine Europa with D1 graphics.
Crazy how easy it would be for them to just let the lore team put the lore in the world lol
@@achair7265 OH MANNN I DON'T WANNA IMAGINE I want to have it
then again europa really does look awesome, it's just the pace of the game being super different plus we're experienced so we know it's probably a waste of our time exploring for more than a little for fun lol
Patrol zones are dead for the average player these days. No reason to visit them except Xur. I went to the Throne World for the first time in months for the fishing quest. So much wasted space.
D1 lost its flavour, the upgraded graphics smoothed everything out and made it look cartoony as opposed to more detailed and grainy
21:40 Titan is went from a whole patrol zone to only available during missions. At least Leviathan had free-roam.
And even then, they still pull it from the game whenever there is a new expansion.
17:40 I still remember the first time I played destiny 2, when I first set foot on nessus. I was awed by the environment. Those megalithic alien structures, the flora, the sky, the vex cascades. The exploration aspect and the novelty was indeed something that played a big role for me. For some reason tho, I dont think there's much that could awe me like that.
Same here. The pre-Beyond Light Destiny 2 locations were incredible pieces of art that were a joy to walk through and explore every nook and cranny. Dreaming City to this day, has more stuff to discover in the zone than the Moon, Europa and Neomuna have combined.
And to think they swore off ever releasing another "Forsaken" expansion ever again in favor of the live-service train is a travesty...
Nessus is absolutely still my favorite planet visually and musically. The soundtrack for Nessus is incredibly cool.
I feel yah man, i bought this game because it looked like a mysterious adventure through alien worlds. Now it feels like the open world aspect has been almost deactivated.
@@crazyninja0958 Same. Bungie poured almost no effort to create REWARDING public events on destinations, and then stopped bothering completely when people weren't running around. They created a problem that they solved by doing nothing at all. Classic move for any live-service developer, let alone Bungo.
"All you need to be concerned with ... is the checklist."
Oof. Man, this is so true. This is what keeps me in the seasons and playing the same thing over and over. Gotta tick those boxes off.
It's a lot of little issues, but how many years before they become intolerable
What a great description of my frustration with the game recently
I don't think the game being virtually un playable and taken offline multiple times a week is a "little issue"
But i agree with your point. However, it's already intolerable. We crossed that bridge last year. And it's gotten significantly worse.
@@FlashesSoccer011 though this is a big issue we only really had issues with servers when about BL came out and it has gotten WAY worse when LF came out so its not annoying enough yet but its getting very fuckin close since its happening with EVERY UPDATE no matter the size.
@@BretMFNTaylor they did mention it in a twab a few weeks ago (5/18 I think) but with LF they introduced new server tech and are preparing to upgrade their server hardware and said they're monitoring and investigating issues. definitely sucks ass that it's been so bad especially recently, but at least they addressed it (although i'll still be taking a break from D2 until i stop seeing posts about maintenance every other day)
@James Morrison Yup, but you'll still find plenty of people who either skipped over it or dont really read TWID in the first place.
In about a month and a half ago I couldn't play more than 15m without an error code some nights.
Was able to spend 3 hours in GotD for the solo with no issue this past weekend.
It'll get there imo
@@JMorrison117 sadly i have as much hope with that team as I do the pvp team (if there even is one) but maybe they at least make the game playable
My current issue with how bungie treats destiny is still from the GDC talk where they said (paraphrase) "we're getting 3x development done with the same size team" and like i get the "yay efficiency!" They were going for to talk to investors and other devs but you can not say that with a straight face, turn around and look at the state of the game, and say the "efficieny" just came out of nowhere. Quality has been sacrificed and im worried about the compounding effects as time goes on
It's because they literally want to underdeliver. They want to just put out subpar content and get paid, not make a magical experience like they used to. This is not the Bungie I grew up playing Combat Evolved and Halo 2 and 3 with, this is nuBungie focused solely on profit rather than creating a valuable product worth making money off of.
My biggest issue from that Dev talk was the racist and sexist implication that only middle aged white men want to make good games.
I wouldn’t say quality has decreased in the content they give is (server issues and bugs are bad though). They’ve been steadily giving us the same types of activities with decent reward structures for years. It just feels like lower quality because it’s predictable and we don’t enjoy it as much anymore.
I think you touched so well on the exploration bit. That’s what it was for me in D1 the first time I ever went beneath the surface of the moon, not terror but awe. Awe that hive society and philosophy is deeper than one could imagine I mean even the idea of “sword logic”, the worm gods, etc. The new content model made it so that’s it’s no longer the goal to wow or even surprise the player, but to keep them sated just enough for the next big record breaking profit this quarter.
2 birds in 1 would be a social horde mode where people can drop in with other people like in tower to just grind horde casually, and then a gm one were a fire team would go through different areas in the galaxy and complete waves
Byf compiling everything in Destiny so far (in a fairly long but fulfilling video) really makes me appreciate how hard he works for the community, for the new lights that constantly pop up every now and then.
I started in Season of Opulence and I feel that I came in at the best time. I was able to take my time in the campaign, I got the full experience of upgrading my guardian from nothing, back when levels were a thing, and I got to ease myself into the world. I now have a day 1, multiple solo flawlessed, and a flawless raid completion
Same - so many of the reasons I fell in love with this game aren't in it anymore
Same I came in at the best time with all that awesome forskin content, which is why I refuse to accept anyone's positive opinions about recent expansions. (WQ was meh at best) Shadowkeep was ass and boring, beyond light was boring, and lightfall was atrocious. The story is generic at best and only raids and dungeons are remotely fun to me anymore. (RoN was kinda bleh though sadly)
I returned during Season of Arrivals, i think it was the best time to play considering how long it was plus nothing was sunset
Season of opulence and menagerie were low key goated I don't think they've made a six player mode that good since.
Cool story
Going from main campaign to shadowkeep was exactly what I did. I left at beyond light and came back at lightfall. Catching up is really hard and doesn't feel organic
I think that’s why I love my group because we accept everyone and try to help everyone, whether new or returning

There was also a spooky, horror element to D1 that completely got lost in D2. The 1st time i went into the moon ,with only my ghost for light, bones everywhere and that 1st group of thralls came qt me i pooped my pants lol D1 could be quite creepy at times and i havent experienced that, not once in D2.
Edit: and btw i agree with everything you've put forward in this video bud.
It went from dark and gritty to bright and shiny... Reflective? After 2 I tried 1 and definitely preferred the style in 1.
@@achair7265 exactly that my man! 💯
glykon was the last time I felt that
@@vette1 That's because they didn't add so much extra lighting. The skybox. Set pieces. They actually took their time making it. Unlike fire base hades that to this day suffers graphically. To me personally I think the moon. Despite the original locations being butchered. When you have to venture into moon to get the artifact to create the armour and weapons. It's nothing, darkness all the way down. Very few lights.
Word dude the ONLY time I felt that in D2 was in the red war when you get to Titan the first time, which of course, is content vaulted.
I miss the mystery of new destinations. The Dreadnought was awesome because it was a mess odf corridors and hidden rooms filled with collectibles, lore, and even hidden activities like Court of Oryx. The Tangled Shore was small but dense, and it was hiding am ENTIRE NEW DESTINATION, aka the Dreaming City Quest. And the Dreaming City itself is still my favorite destination.
Man I was just thinking about Luke Smith and how good TTK was yesterday, then I find this video and you tell me exactly what I wanted to hear 😊
Being a returning Destiny player I still feel like a beta tester for this game and it's insane because of the amount of content there is now since I've been gone. So far I'm enjoying bits and pieces but I always think about how much I dread trying to team up for raids.
When you said we know what’s out there. You hit the nail on the head. I wish we had reasons to explore the world that they could handcraft. I want the world to be huge and to have reasons to go on patrols and explore their world.
I miss secret exotic quests that didn't go away after a year... That whisper of the worm quest made me feel like for a moment.... My ability to explore was rewarded with something truly special.
Can't even afford to do exotic missions more than once a year anymore, instead they're bringing the old ones back but it's another weekly FOMO rotator...

This is good constructive discussion. I enjoyed listening to this video. Nice job on this one Aztecross.
What is hitting me is that they said that final shape would not be the end, and yet is seems it is
As a veteran player the game has become like you said a checklist. I play not for fun but because of fomo. I don’t want to miss a weapon I will need in the future in hopes that the game becomes fun for me again. I used to play pvp during content drought’s but connections are so bad, it’s a sweat fest or there are cheaters. Strikes give me strokes and gambit is fun %2 of the time when I get a team with a pulse. Unless they do something big the final shape will be the final release.
Nailed it with the word "FOMO". Bungie uses it to make you feel forced to log in through missing out on weapons armor and seals. VS a game like FF14 where there is close to NO FOMO and i play the game for fun and at my own pace.
I think, you being a veteran, i can almost asure you, that you wont need any new weapons/armors for the rest of the game. We are already too powerfull for anything the will add on
@@19Fer96 You're totally right. I'm sure if I quit grinding now I'll be good many seasons from now and be able to get by. The way it seems to have been working is if they accidently introduce a difficult to get OP weapon they will soon introduce either a better one or a good enough version that is very easy to get. Ngl, besides fomo I do enjoy grinding in general and crafting builds, I just wish I enjoyed the content more to make the grind fun rather than a task.
The weapons you get now don't matter because they'll just be invalidated by something released later so dw about it and go live your best life playing not destiny.
I just stopped caring at some point because i did the same thing over and over again from season to season
9:49 holy crap. That’s so incredibly true!!!!
I remember just having dance parties with guardians at the public event flag. Now it’s very rare to have or see
It’s always weird to me that how in a vacuum Destiny’s current storytelling is really good, but the moment you stop comparing it to Destiny’s past attempts at storytelling and compare it to other games, it’s mostly bad, subpar at best. Note I’m talking about in-game storytelling, not the lore, the lore is actually good. Despite that, we all just accept it.
Ya know I used to feel like that but I started to think of the lore books as a necessary read while you're doing the story not after
But I think that is more due to something that Bungie decided: That you can play this game and never even care about the lore at all. When you build a game that is some ways modular in that aspect, there will always be a step down in In-game story telling compare to other games. But I still would put D2 up against a large majority of games and its story holds up.
Well they didn't ask me.😂
The peak of destiny in game story telling for me was within several of the destiny 1 and a few of the d2 strikes. I loved the world building they used to give us, it used to feel like there was so much more going on that was out of the vanguard's control. Now it just feels like we are so dominant over the entire solar system and none of the other races have anything to threaten us. There's only the universe ending god entity, the witness, that actually poses a threat
Bungie is that friend that is a fucking genius who has really good ideas that they write down on paper, but when you ask them about it they trip over their own words and forget to mention certain details. We know the lore is good, and the *writing* is good, but when it comes to the immediate content that delivers narrative they keep fumbling
I'm thankful for this video and all the discussion it promotes. I have been feeling this way for awhile. I am a Day 1 Destiny 1 player and love this game immensely. Peak Destiny for me was Season of Arrivals. I also enjoyed Season of The Lost. When Bungie changed their plans for DLC release and showed The Final Shape, it really seemed like there were some behind the scenes development issues going on.
What really hit me hard was the Marathon announcement and seeing all of these heavy hitter Destiny people moved on to a new project. I am happy for them that they get to work on something new but I can't deny that I am very sad to see the effects this has had on Destiny. Every single part of the game is suffering from Destiny B-Team stink. I have invested so much of my time and energy into the game I love. I don't regret that time at all. The memories I made, the people I met, the fun I had. All worth it. I guess I'm just sad over a video game? I realize this probably makes me a huge loser lol. I don't want to play other games. I want to play Destiny.
It's very clear to me that their priorities are elsewhere and I guess that makes sense. Maybe I'm wrong. Who knows? Bungie is radio silent on everything.
i think fishing was a very nice change of pace since for a while now the social aspect was lacking and having a "hub" where people can actually do something worth it for their game since it gave loot has lead to pretty decent conversation over just fishing
What a great video to watch, bravo Cross.
Honestly I'm glad Bungie has been receiving so much backlash. I already stopped purchasing season passes after that price increase happened. Idc if others continue I'm not supporting that greed along with the list of other issues plaguing the game I'm tired of them spitting on their consumers forgetting that they need us far more than we need them.

They’ve needed it for a long time now, but even now it doesn’t seem to phase them, they just keep pushing because they know people will still buy it.

It was fun for awhile but the it just became the same checklist of stuff to do every week t catch up and do masters and what not. I. Just couldn't care anymore.
Fuck this guy spoke to my soul. I'm mentally done with Destiny and find myself playing less and less. But I feel like I can't give up on it until Final Shape and get the conclusion of this story arc we have been playing for 9 years
I hope you remember this comment and see when we are all done with final shape it won’t be worth it. They are going to throw anything at the wall and we are just all going to be to watch it slide down the wall because we spent too much time here. I already know it’s not going to be good but I’ll be there for the shit show for sure lol
im in agreement with you ive played this game since its been out even the beta and at this point im playing less and less due to work, family, kids, and finding other games that are just more interesting but once final shape comes out that might be the final dlc that i purchase.
Literally me
I can remember the calcified fragments in Taken king. Or even the scanables which we haven't gotten in YEARS
As far as catching up on some background lore goes, they're also practically giving away the grimoire books on humble bundle. Grabbed all of them for $9 the other day.
getting loot with specific rolls is addictive, we are collectors for our vault and there is something highly addictive collecting the best objective rolls. The music, gunplay and some atmospheric scenes really capture us and its those moments that keep us coming back. 9 years of Destiny is a huge chunk of most of our lives that it has become us. I'm not a young guy but that means nearly a quarter of my life I have known this game and the best moments will always be engrained into me

Holy crap, this is exactly how I feel. Recently swapped to Diablo 4, it might become the destiny killer for me... Sorry Bungie, you sent all old devs to a new game and destiny lost it's... I dunno it's just lost something for me.
Diablo IV isn’t the Destiny killer…it’s always been Bungie. Bungie is the Destiny killer.
I don't know about yall crying about Marathon, but I want to see what else bungie has to offer if it means to pull the plug from d2, so be it I don't want to play the same old broken game forever.

I’ve played it for 9 years, made no friends (temporary ones maybe), play mostly solo and can’t stand the LFG experience… I resonate with this so much.
That’s a you problem my guy I’ve made loads of friends in the 9 years I’ve played. It’s literally so easy to make friends on destiny.
@@mlugo9shit take but ok 👌
@@mlugo9 Destiny is not an easy game to make friends my dude, L take
@@mlugo9 yup totally agree. If no one wants to play with you after a raid you probably suck. Not every good player can easily make friends but no bad player has ever made a friend in a raid (unless that player also sucks)
You can’t even chat in the game unless you are already friends with the person. But how will you make new friends unless you leave the game to go a website ? That’s terrible game design
If maps were so expensive to make, how do the devs explain new play spaces? How can you stand there, introducing Europa, and have all that world art... and not have a europa pvp map? Why was the Leviathan pvp map not brought back with season of the haunted? How can you make neomuna and not have a map space for pvp?!
When they say expensive, they mean paying people to make the maps is expensive.
@@digizilla164 with the amount of money people pay for silver, DLC, season pass and every other thing we throw money into that shouldn't be a damn problem at all. It's no excuse to be honest
Really deep opinions, i agree to a lot of them and i really want that excitement for exploring, i really, really want it, the planets, environment, guns, enemies there and then going to locations that you've never seen before and fight with other guardians, thats the destiny for me. I would really like to have an activity which surrounds securing pvp maps, you know, we hear a lot about how we would make a perfect redjack but we never do their work or even see it
I’m glad I got to experience the game when all the content was still here. I really do hope they give us destinations back and not that cheap bs from this season
I really wish there was exploration that was rewarded for exploring. They make all of these great environments and there are very few easter eggs. There really should be more easter eggs as rewards for going off the beaten path and looking in those caves or climbing to the top of that mountain.
Maps should be explored like in other MMO games. You uncover stuff. You get a triumph for 100% completing a map, etc.
Oh like the ghost fragments that used to be all over
@@zealobiron Or anything. Like how about a special shader for finding all the regional loot chest at a location? I think stuff like that would be great.
I remember the taken king. When the map was really small but it was filled to the brim with every kind of secret. For a wile I’ve realized that maps are designed to look big but are actually smaller. Something so small that the sparrow doesn’t work for some reason. Wink
As a destiny Veteran (since vanilla), a lot has changed for me since then in my life. I became a father, work long hours and look after my 2 year old daughter, as I’m sure many people who are reading this can relate to as well.
And I agree with the social aspect of this game, I’m profoundly disappointed over some social exchanges I’ve had with some players who have reached guardian rank 11, and have disrespected (veteran) players who have invested almost a decade into this game and have NOTHING TO SHOW FOR IT! No medallion, no badges that show that you are a veteran, or a badge that invested thousands of hours, strong bright badges to recognise the community in a way that stands them out as the ones who always stuck with Destiny NO MATTER WHAT!
Now that’s a badge I want on my profile that people can see.
Destiny left the veteran community behind, and should recognise their time and sacrifice from the past to move to the future of ranking
The best things we have currently to show that you're a higher end guardian is rank 11, certain emblems (solo flawless dungeons), and certain titles (e.g. raid titles, conqueror, etc). U want something just for time invested? I dont think Bungie would do that. LuckStruck's bots would all have the highest rank for example, and that wouldn't mean a thing. There would be people using macros to be afk in game just to achieve in 3 months what took u 3 years.
Giving veterans with over 1,000 hours a ghost shell and an emblem seems somewhat reasonable
I have played for about 1500 hours since season of plunder was half done, and i think i have things to show for it. I have gotten some raid exotics, day 1 emblem from RoN, unlocked and gilded Titles etc..
I get where you coming from, but i dont think we should be rewarded for how much time you have logged in, but what you have done with the time.
Peace ✌🏻

I always have on the emblem from Age of Triumph from the last months of D1
One thing I would LOVE is more of the exploration aspect. I know this isn't what Destiny is. But I remember playing the D2 beta and seeing cool looking areas and trying to get to them but I would reach map limits. The world feels too small and I woud love more secrets in the game, LORE could be told in this way. Worlds would have to be bigger but right now the Destiny world we explore reminds me of Ubisoft games. HUGE but ultimately empty. I thought lost sectors originally would be harder to find and give more of this mystery, but they didn't.
Awesome one cross, can't wait for your video on monetization.
Regarding Luke, I agree with you; most *client-facing* people mostly just deliver news, good or bad. He might have had some say in D2 matters but most things are decided by teams of people and/or people at the very top (Qui-Gon: "there is always a bigger fish").
It would be really cool if there was one of those animated cutscenes (the monochrome ones) in between each campaign (even the vaulted ones if they were to return) that would recap the story of the previous campaign, relevant past story points, and a summary of each season for that year. I think that would help a lot with new players getting immersed in the story.
I feel like I am chasing something that I saw a glimpse of, brushed up close to, and never saw again. I wish there was stuff that made this a less toxic game: socially and business wise.
This... so much this

Probably right before I realized I had finished D1's launch content. The atmosphere and tone of the game have shifted significantly which is what got me in the first place.
Bungie is a completely different animal from what it was, but as far as I can see the soul that I got to know through playing and learning Halo CE, 2, and 3 is still here and very potent.
Honestly, the biggest thing for me is the content vaulting. I feel that hardcore players like me will do whatever we can to make room for the entirety of the game. And those who don’t want to can go the MW 2019 route and choose what they want to have installed.
I left when they vaulted everything. Haven't returned.
I hadn't played Destiny in a while but when I jumped on and saw Gyrfalcons, I was so pumped to use it because Nightstalker really didn't have good exotics that weren't tied to the super. Like a day after I get it it's disabled for over a month. I was able to entertain myself with an alt build but after weeks of waiting for it to be reenabled I just quit again because I just got bored and was basically doing what I had been when I originally took a break.
I've been watching your channel for quite a while and I just wanna say thanks for not obliterating me over this video lol. There are lots of things that the comment section has informed me on like the power not changing next season, as well as my total price being inaccurate since I never factored the seasons you get with deluxe editions. Overall I was super negative in this video because I was kind of just venting all of my frustrations over the years, but I really wish I went more in depth on what I love about the game. It's kind of tough to see a video that I disagree with so much become so popular, but I'm very grateful to have you see it either way!
I think a huge part of the feelings of most destiny players now is we've just evolved as a community and can't acknowledge it. There's more people playing, more eyes on the game, nothing is secret anymore. Part of the wonder of d1 was it felt like we didn't know every loot table and every perk roll and every area on every map. The game feels smaller because you can instantly teleport anywhere you want to go and load into every activity at will. The game is different now, but so are we.
Same with exotics feeling “exotic”. I remember getting my first patience and time, my first trinity ghoul and being so excited. Now I have 5 exotic engrams sitting in my inventory
@@wholelottanunya2285 this is honestly my main gripe with the game right now, there's nothing significant to chase. exotics aren't exciting to get anymore and even the highest end content in the game, master raids, have no meaningful reason to do them
I would enjoy this game so much more if it wasn’t for the damn error codes and contacting destiny that have started going crazy after beyond light. And I know damn well it ain’t my connection, never lag or get kicked in any other multiplayer but destiny. Also the fact that they have to patch stuff every week because it does more damage or an exploit in enchantment cores. These stuff should be play tested before release. I swear they release stuff and after 2 days it’s locked
I believe there was a discussion years ago about the whole "secrets" thing. Tabling datamining, the whole reason there really arent secret missions and what not is that they tend to be tied to a season and it had something to do with marketing, that they would need to advertise the secret mission if folks were paying for it. That being said, remember when EV purchases were supposed to go back into the game to fund such things? Hell, the seasonal events which are meant to push cosmetics to pay for themselves now have additional season passes.
@@chrissturges8952 that statement was later clarified. They said that they don't do them as often because the encryption process is expensive and time consuming, not that they wouldn't do them anymore. That statement was also made not long before DMT happened, which was a secret mission

I really resonated with what you said about how the world feels small. Like the overall feel of loading into a planet has changed so drastically, at least to me. If you look at the planets the game started with, like the edz, nessus, io, it just felt so much bigger and more grand. Now, I want you to compare those planets to the ones we got now. the planets we have now are so much smaller with less areas to explore, less lost sectors, less secret missions (I miss those), and so much more. I miss that feeling of it feeling like a whole planet that you're exploring, not just a small area. Continuing on with this idea, the proof is literally right there in the campaigns. I felt like after a campaign, there was still so much of the planet and areas to explore, and now, you pretty much explore everything within the campaign because the world is so small. (I'll continue this in the replies)
Due to the fact that we already see every part of the world by the time the campaign is done, it feels less engaging to explore after because you know theres nothing new that you haven't really seen, and a lot less secrets than there used to be (whisper, outbreak, and lumina for example). For someone like me, who doesn't always want to to run the season content or the playlists, and just kind of want to chill in a beautiful looking game, it doesn't really feel the same. A factor of me feeling this way could very well be the increase in price with that decrease in content. Lets take the original content in the game for example. Its 60 bucks, which is a lot of money, but look at how much content, planets, areas to explore, etc. that they gave us for that. Once you finished the campaign, there were tons of areas, a bunch of loot, secret missions, you name it, to be had. Then if we look at stuff like curse of osiris and warmind, yes the were recieved poorly, but when you look at it now they gave us a whole campaign with unique guns and even smaller planets to explore. When you look at our seasons being 12 dollars today, I think it looks a lot better. Now lets get on to forsaken. For 40 bucks they gave us 2 planets, each one the size of neomuna. They gave us arguably their best campaign of all time, with more loot then I feel like we have gotten in two campaigns now. That also came with a dungeon that didn't cost an extra 20 bucks as well as multiple strikes, not just one per planet like destiny have given us recently (very lazy). I'll even look at the seasons as well just to give you a comparison. season of the forge gave us the black armory with some of the coolest weapons and of the most engaging activities. Oh, and I almost forgot, IT CAME WITH A RAID!!! Then, season of the drifter which we got some of the coolest cutscenes ever, and while it wasn't quite as good as forge, it still gave us an entirely new gamemode. Oh yah, and kind of a small thing not really that important, THEY WERE 10 BUCKS!!! we were getting way more for less. The dipping point came with shadowkeep, their very first expansion as an independent company. As their first expansion, I and many others gave them some leniency, but overall they still gave us a decent campaign with a raid and a dungeon, and because the recognized the dip in quality it was 10 bucks less. this sweetened the pot enough for me and I was pretty happy. But they took that, and they ran with it for way too long, decreasing content and weapons while raising price. Looking at today, we get less to explore than shadowkeep, with less content, we have to buy the dungeons individually, and it's TWICE us much at the bare minimum. the season content has also gone down exponentially compared to what we used to get. With that being said, Bungie has improved in other ways like some of their story and some changes that were appreciated by myself and many others. But the idea of the game feeling small has never felt more true in this time than any other time in destiny, and I desperately want that to change. There is a very easy way to get me and many others happy as well. They brought back titan for the activities, but only in the helm. The cherry on top would be if at the end of the season they bring back the planet in it's entirety. Anyways, sorry for my rant but it's just something I really resonated with.
Venus in d1 felt huge to me, no matter how much I explored I always felt like there was more we couldn’t see yet or get to.
Idk neomuna was the most underwhelming location ever imo worse than mercury. It feels tiny and uninteresting
@@4am446 the fact that the trailers showed all these huge skyscrapers in a sprawling city and then you get there and you see all that shit is just background decoration is like "rly man?"
Thanks for the video CROSS.
Whats funny is that the smallest moments of Destiny reminds me the most of why I love it so much.
Doing a dumb, easy, normal difficulty lost sector. Putting on a non-meta primary and shooting the gun, feeling the feel of how the engine handles gunplay and I'm like "God damn, that's crisp. That feels great."
But when you get hyper involved grind I feel that burnout im feeling so often. When I go into trials, or iron banner, and I'm surrounded by hypersweats I'm like "man, I want to go play Diablo 4".
This is the weird fight im experiencing right now to remain a die-hard Destiny 2 player, and I'm not really sure how to win that fight yet.
I agree with the small feeling. I used to have a reason to go and explore everywhere. Like literally into the guts of Nessus and the Dreaming City. They're still there, but there's no reason to do that anymore. There's no reason to explore anything. Maybe they should make a weekly fetch quest where you have to honestly explore to finish.
The one teensy little thing I liked about Season of Plunder was the treasure hunts. Most people have probably forgotten all about them, but they did just that: go visit this place, look for this, stand over there, dig here, find something cool. Great use of old patrol space.
that usually what happens with live service game. old content get's lost to the wayside. As a person starting FF14 there's LITERALLY no point in doing the starting raid and NO ONE does them. Yes, the old content is there, but, it really isn't worth doing so they have a bunch of unused content just taking up space on your computer.
D1 vanilla vet here.
Post final shape whatever that brings, I probably won't be sticking around. At this point I'm too sucked in to just drop it at the finish line, but I'm really tired of what Bungie has continued to fail to deliver while price hiking.
I love this game but Bungie isn't doing it's own IP or community justice anymore, the magic is gone.
First time I played D2 was forsaken and the thing that stuck with me was for the life of me I could not figure out how to read the map, but I loved every second of exploring and learning the game. Experiencing campaigns, specifically the red war, playing with 2 other friends and being immersed in it with them will stay with me as a core gaming memory along with playing contra on the fam come 30 years ago for the first time. The last time I played was the 30th anniversary DLC and all I remember from it was paying for a broken dungeon that couldn't be finished. Anything and everything between the first time I played and the last time I played is telesto being broken for god knows how long, freshly released seasonal exotics being disabled weeks on end because of some bug, and then all of the gear and builds I have worked hard on literally being useless with each released season.
Hard to quit because of time invested? I have 7,550.2 hours on it according to steam, all I did was uninstall the damn game and took up a hobby. Destiny and Bungie's time has passed. It was good, keyword "was", but playing day in and day out holding on to hope that you'd feel the same joy you once did is a pipe dream.
As someone who has 4k hrs invested in D2 I have to say that communication is the biggest roadblock in D2. I also have similar hours invested in Elder Scrolls online where I can drop into a public space like Craglorn and basically get a seat into any of the multiple group activities either by advertising what i'm looking for or replying to the groups present needing players, its so easy to find a group. I wish we had a decent zone chat present ingame in D2.
I met so many people from lfg in D1 that became pillar friends in my life. Every holiday we exchange good greetings. Thanksgiving, Christmas, birthdays all that. One of them and his son played together with us, had a squeaky voice and I heard from him a couple weeks ago, his son is a soph in HIGH SCHOOL NOW 😭😭 Doesnt happen to everyone but to me, thats part of the Destiny magic imo
I had friends from destiny fly out to my baby shower. Greatest experience ever.
I recently met a LFG mate tirned friend irl and we hung out at a com for like 4 hours. Fucking BALLER.
In order to reset that feeling of awe, D3 should take place 500 - 1000 years into the future from D2, effectively rebooting the setting. They could do so many new things for storytelling and gameplay with that big of a leap.
I agree 100%. would love to get to a new setting, humanity is more advanced again, maybe clans emerge again etc like FWC and Dead Orbit

One thing that could make this game more social in my opinion would be to as proximity chat. If i'm out in the wild it would be nice if i could slowly hear people talking till i'm right next to them and say hello.

@@lazarofernandez9419I think they mean in areas like patrol spaces. I don’t see nearly as much toxicity as if there were proxy chat in pvp
I feel we’re all playing the game because we all see the potential of this game and hope that at some point it will reach that potential.
The rpg elements are rock solid, so many customization options that there’s a playstyle and variety for everyone. The gun play feels really good, every gun has a unique feel to it and the impact of those guns are satisfying. The graphics are just jawdropping, I haven’t played that many games that have given me the same sense of amazement that this game has. And finally the level of complexity the game offers makes sure there’s always something to learn which keeps me interested.
I agree that the game definitely falls short in the social aspect. Even though I’ve met quite a lot of people over time, indeed everyone always has a different to-do list and these often don’t align so there’s no incentive to play together. Especially since destiny is a grindy game you you often have to be efficient with your time so doing some activities again without rewards feels like a waste. Additionally the clan system is too basic; there’s no social place (clan hall e.g. to work towards and show clan trophies), no world vs world pvp to undertake cool missions together, no clan matchmaking to queue op for the same to-dos and no sharing of loot to help out your fellow guardian.
Next it’s the rewards; every season again we’re grinding for the new meta weapons, armor skins and sometimes a ghost shell or something. I would like to grind for something else by now. As a veteran player I would love to have some some sort of next level end game loot. An exclusive companion e.g. which cost like x ascendant shards or a ‘legendary’ fishing rod or something. At least some very very exclusive end game loot to grind for. I love the aquarium e.g. but am already disappointed that it will disappear, please let me unlock the pieces of it and let me rebuild it in my custom house or something. The lack of all of this was the reason my friends stopped playing this expansion; same shit different day. Even the events are the same, same boring stuff with same boring loot.
I also agree the worlds feel empty and repetitive. After doing the campaigns there’s hardly any incentive to go back to them anymore. Where are the world bosses that you have to kill with 20 guardians and takes 4 hours to finish, where are the sparrow races (btw still no sparrow skins, really?), where are the insane jumping puzzels with red borders or something at end. Just other stuff to do to have some variation.
I love the game and want it to reach its full potential, but I need more. Currently it feels like I’m just sleepwalking through the content waiting to be woken up.
"I want it to reach its potential"

all the criticism Bungie received in this video is well deserved
Part 1:
I feel like one way to give people more of a connection to destiny like how it used to, is to make us feel more connected to our character, it would be really cool for example if new lights or creating a new character had us spawn on different planets based on a certain back story we chose for our character. One example being, if we chose awoken as our race and our prior life being part of queen mara’s guard, our ghost would find us in the dreaming city.
why am i so sad now after the second half of the video, i feel the emotion in your voice with this pinao goin in the background
Man I miss getting spammed with game invites at the tower. Somebody needed me to beat some minor PVE level. It was fun to just help. Even when not talking to them. That and spammed at the Reef for Trials runs.
This is wild because I’ve made some awesome friends specifically in LFG. We play other things together now, do weekly among us nights and just have an overall good time. I definitely don’t think it’s hard to make friends, you just have to be open and patient.
Agreed I connected with a British guy and a Texan and we completed legend avalon together in was awesome. Lfg is definitely not perfect but you can make decent friends.
Been friends with this group from Georgia (the state) for a while now, if it wasn’t for LFG would’ve never met them
Surprised D2 official lfg is too toxic
for some people it isn’t as easy and u gotta understand that. some people are antisocial and have anxiety when meeting new people. its not as easy as “hey we should be friends”.
I personally think it's just you, it's pretty rare to make a friend in destiny 2
Just because a 1 in a million thing happened to you doesn't mean it's easy and bound to happen for anyone else.
Feeling small despite the scale is definately one of my diggest disappontments. Seeing Neomuna in the trailer for the first time and the gruardians grappling between buildings, rooftop to rooftop. Some psuedo spiderman stuff, and then retail comes and it more running, more walking, and we aren't even really in the city that was shown off.
I used to explore so much in D1 and it wasn’t even big. But I wanted to explore all of the time. Just patrol for fun. I miss that feeling
I too am one lost to light. So tired of the grind and losing all my work to sunsetting.
I still remember The season of the opulence with The menagerie chest's bug and someone from bungie said "hey, we're going to take our time fixing It, so enjoy the grind".
I miss those times
every seasonal event map (sundial, heist maps, plunder ships) should first be built as a crucible map, and then close doors or whatever to convert that to an event arena. this way you'd get continual value from maps that otherwise go away.
It genuinely shocks me that more games don’t do this. CoD is a massive victim of this. They already barely roll out maps, when they already have larger maps and assists in game they could either shrink down or slightly rotate and they’d be all good
They should just give us a forge mode so we can make maps since they won’t.
Well that 1st cut scene does still relate. "You're gonna see alot of things you don't understand"

I've played Destiny since the beta of D1 in 2014, and I don't regret it for a minute. Has it always been fantastic? No. But the sheer amount of entertainment I've gotten out of this franchise over the past 9 years hasn't been equalled by any other video game in my entire life, full stop. There have been times I've taken breaks. Times the game has been in a bad state, sure. But the good has far outweighed the bad.
Two of my best gaming buds who I play with regularly to this day, in many different games not just Destiny, I met through Destiny raiding way back in 2015 doing Kings Fall.
Same. I've played since the beta and not regretted any of it. Yes, definitely have taken breaks, but who hasn't? Esp when other awesome games come out.. Most recently that being Diablo 4 as an example.
And most of my gaming friends I met because of Destiny, and they've (mostly) remained my friends and kept that relationship for all these years.

At 18:25 for me personally i feel like the Destiny 1 "Light Consumed" or Dark Areas where you can't just re-spawn felt harder even though it is no different to now and just felt like the No Light Area was a precursor to an "Oh shit time to Sit up in my chair moment"
Something about the atmosphere was darker, almost scarier in a sense? There was that unknown, that wonder, that fear that made it feel different. Now the question is how much fucking champions am i about to have to deal with.

It does feel like Bungie’s plan is to dip on D2 and go for marathon but that’s a huge gamble that’ll probably flop hard. Extraction games have never taken off in the way games like destiny have.
Also as Cross kind of pointed out: 2025, are they too late? I do get that Destiny is not technically the first looter shooter, heck Warframe was out the year earlier, but it is viewed as that. When you are in a relatively blue ocean and able to get everyone to invest enough in the ecosystem that by the time the first competitor comes out players are already in the sunk cost zone and the competitor would have had to have done so much more to pull them away, that is why Destiny has existed for so long. If Marathon is entering into a more mature arena with other competitors that even then has not taken off, unless Marathon is re-inventing the genre, wouldnt it be an also ran? See Lawbreakers or hell Battleborn.
Going a bit further, lets take the microcosm of Epic Games. When Fortnite became a huge success, they ended up shutting down the PvE side of it as well as their 3rd person Moba, Paragon, because they needed to focus all their effort on Fortnite. Hell they essentially killed off the Unreal Tournament franchise to focus on Fortnite. If Marathon does manage to hit Fortnite levels, why would they not pivot everyone to Marathon? Where Destiny sits right now it already feels like the vast majority of the work force is devoted to Marathon.
If you watched till the end and it so damn hurts, it's because you love the game so much and want it to be more, not just better, but be the best.
Noticing now that at 7:49 that guardian's name is ORYX, and if i recall this was the testing and alpha game play by the devs, so they already had the story in the works for kings fall that far back? neat
I personally won’t be spending a single dollar on Marathon. Just on principal I’m not going to buy a PVP game from them when they can’t even take care of the PVP in a game I already bought from them.
