I really get a kick out of the named models, it brings a level of investment to the story instead of "un-named cyclops and faceless beast handlers" and the well-painted models and close-up camera shots make this Battle report a treat to watch. Keep up the good work!
Batrep After Action Review + Editing Notes AAR Jason: When I chose to go first, Donna took full advantage of the terrain & stuck me with the side that had the only large obstruction (house). When faced with that, I quickly developed a plan to have Hakaar & the Guardian go up the left side to take out who they could & then flank the majority of her force that I was expecting to come up the middle. That worked in part, but she did a good job of holding them at bay for a turn longer than I wanted with the thralls blocking their path to Deneghra. I really messed up running the Agon & Kuros ahead so early on. I've had good success with my Beast Handlers keeping them in the fight, but I lost sight of how hard her Brute Thralls could hit charging in with Combo Strikes. That turn really hurt. I also forgot about Damnation. My plan was to use Kuros to keep her Slayer tied up & even if he got killed, I could safely keep Hexeris at bay casting spells on Deneghra through the Razor Worm. Or at least that was the plan. Damnation allowing the Slayer to not only get LOS through the forest, but also Pathfinder & +2" movement was the real turning point in the game. We misread Dark Dominion & missed the part about the models being RFPed. Had we played it correctly, the Necrosurgeon wouldn't have gotten those 4 corpses. The thralls were a nuisance, but I don't think missing that one part of the feat really had a significant effect on how the game played out. Donna: I'm new to playing Cryx, but I'm really enjoying finding new ways to use them. This was my first time using Damnation & charging my Slayer through a forest was so much fun. Also, this was the first time that I got Deneghra into the fight. Teleporting the Razor Worm out of the way with Dark Banishment was too much fun to pass up. I had high hopes for Darragh Wrathe, but all of his dice rolls were awful this game. The only real benefit he gave me was Death Ride letting my Undead get up the field a little faster early on & then tying up the Razor Worm to keep Deneghra safe. Well, and he scored a little for me, but not enough to really matter in the end I guess. I chose to have the Necrosurgeon resurrect the Mechanithralls AFTER the Brute Thrall went that turn. The reason was because I knew I wanted the Brute to attack the Beast Handler in front of her, but I wanted the Mechanithralls to block off the side of the pond against Hakaar & the Ancestral Guardian. If I had brought them back before their unit activated that turn, they'd have had to be placed within 2" of whichever one I moved and that would have messed up my "attack here while blocking there" plan. I probably popped Deneghra's feat one turn too early since the only threats he had to me in round 2 were magical attacks anyway. I should have waited until turn 3. Editing Notes: Our PC crashed towards the end of September. The editing was about 70-80% done at that point & we lost everything. All the audio, animations, etc and even some of the video. We wanted to get it out in September, but after getting the PC fixed, even with cramming / no sleep for the last 2 weeks, we still missed it by a week. Everything is being backed up REGULARLY now. Lesson learned. That said, in the rush to get things redone to avoid further delay, there were a few things that were done when we first played the game, but were missed in the filming. They didn't affect how the game turned out at all, but we still wanted to note them so that there's no confusion. 1. Cryx turn 3 - when Hexeris was attacked & transferred damage to the Razor Worm, I forgot to show me pulling the fury away for it. It did happen, just didn't get filmed. 2. Cryx turn 5 - forgot to pull the Damnation token away at the start of filming that round. It wasn't used during that round, but the token should still have been moved off camera. 3. The vocals may sound slightly different between some rounds (at least they do to my ear). This is because during the time I was trying to redo everything, I was fighting / recovering from strep throat, but still trying to record the audio narration. I tried to tweak it in the mix to make sure none of it is particularly low or weak. Not sure how successful I was. 4. Skorne turn 3 - I forgot to put the text explaining the Beast Handlers' star action "Medicate" on the screen. 5. Skorne turn 5 - I forgot to pull the corpse tokens off of the table after the Necrosurgeon's unit was destroyed. 6. Cryx turn 5 - I forgot to remove the Razor Worm from the table when it was destroyed & I forgot to show the dice roll for the final attack from the Slayer.

These are really great, the little lore flavored descriptions reminded me of what actually got me to cross the threshold to getting into table top wargaming through Warmachine to begin with. If you start a Patreon or something I'd love to contribute.

Part of the challenge & fun is that I only have a handful of scream sound effects. So to make more unique ones, I make copies of the original screams & play around tweaking the pitch, speed, etc of each sound clip.
1st time across your channel I like the opening part showing off the models good camera angle showing off the armies, voice over clear and sharp. I would of liked to seen the aerial shot to begin with then used similar angle camera used to show off the armies for their deployment. I also like the camera angles used during the battle along with the special affects. Hope this style continues was a good watch looking forward to more.

Thank you! My plan is to make one batrep video per month. This one was supposed to come out in Sept, but my PC crashed 3 weeks into making it. I had to scramble to redo everything after getting my computer fixed so that I could get it out as early as possible. I'm hoping to still get another done for the month of October.
This was a fantastic battle report! I love the format, commentary, and special effects! The music reminded me of Diablo 2 Act 2 and was a fun fit for Skorne. Please keep naming the living models, it really adds to the immersion. I was hoping Fred would be a superstar and he absolutely was! One rules question: I could be wrong but I believe at 21:30 the Paingivers who started their activations engaged lose their attack actions if moved to attack a new target. I don't believe Skorne had played their Breakthrough card so this in no way changes the outcome as they could have just played that card to get Unstoppable (or maybe they did and it wasn't shown in the final cut). Out of curiosity, it seemed like cards didn't play a huge role in this match. Was it a case of not being used to them yet or did they just not fill any need this particular battle? I kind of felt that Taunt would have been really powerful to play for Skorne at a couple of key moments. Keep up the great content! I am subscribed!

As for the Beast Handlers, the one that was engaged with the Brute Thrall was still within her 1" melee range after moving. So, he never disengaged from her. I understand the angle of the scene may make it look off, but he never disengaged from her. As for the command cards, I think it's a combination of them being so new and my wife & I both tend to really get into the game when we play and that can make it easy for us to lose sight of something new at times. Our fault, not the fault of the cards.
I made them using animations / images I bought / downloaded, images / animations I created, sounds that I bought / downloaded, & sounds that I created. They're all a mix.

Can Hakkar transfer damage to the Wurm if it had 3 Fury points? Does it have 4 FURY in mk4 or can you transfer to a beast full on Fury in the new edition?
Hey where did you guys get the rules for Deneghra for MK4? I got an old army from a friend with her as warcastr but in the new app there is only the rules for the new models and army configs and she does not seem to be there for the cryx. Do you guys just use the old app stats for her?
Back when we played this one & recorded the batrep, the MK4 app wasn’t out yet and we didn’t know what cards would be out when for MK4, but we started playing with the MK4 rules using our MK3 cards in July when they first dropped the beta rules. My newest batrep features MK4 prime lists and the rest going forward will too.
Awesome. I hope it's just the first in the long series. The only thing. I noticed - are you playing both sides? I hope future games are going to be real games, human mind vs another human mind. Only then can you really put both tactics and mistakes on display.
This is from a real game, but replayed by me to get the camera angles / shots I want for the narrative retelling. All my batreps start as a static-cam filming of live plays between my wife & I. Then, I rewatch that static-cam footage to write a narrative script & reshoot the game myself. Unfortunately, getting the different camera angles & shots that I'm after would make filming when we actually play live to be a nightmare. I wouldn't be able to focus on the game play since I'd constantly have to be shifting the camera position & settings based on the next action.
