Nice demonstration. I wanted to say I have looked at the eyes of Mt. Rushmore trying to imagine a way to capture that use of light. Dave nailed it. Great stuff. I love the complexity of simple.
Dave...thanks so much for sharing your experience and making a simpler carving for us newbies. This really helps and gives us confidence to continue to learn. You are awesome! Thanks again. All the best!
Great video Blake ..its so great to get to see these videos after the meetings because for some reason my reception is terrible in the Zoom meetings and I get kicked off some much durning the meetings ..Its great to be able to go back and watch the whole thing ..Great teaching Dave and Thank you guys for doing this
Thank-you for the work you are doing. This was my first chance to watch you live and I just discovered the association. Dave Stetson's Santa is a great beginner carving I look forward to making. You are creating something that will become much bigger. Congratulations.
Since there have already been three comments about the Fibonacci sequence, this might help: Take any two numbers and add them together and repeat for the next pair Ex: pick 1 and 2…………………Sequence 1,2,3,5,8 etc Lost? Go to youtube and watch Donald in Mathmagicland They don’t mention the Fibonacci sequence but it evolved into the Golden Ratio and Golden Proportion. Watch from 9:00 to 10:00 to see how it is the basis for proportion in sculpture aka woodcarving.

Once in a Jon Nelson class , I told him I had trouble with eyes, his answer? He said ,”Carve a lot of eyes !” And he was right!
Hey Jack...really like that idea about using the dog nail clippers, in lieu of a knife, for getting a sharp cut at the end of a small stick. Thanks!
Thank you very much Dave especially like how you do your patterns
He is truly amazing
Dave...LOVE that Santa! Sweet! Yep ... familiar with Fibonacci.
When it comes to pen fades, how about a blob of white paint, sign then clear coat over the top?
Many thanks from a newbie.
Dave can you provide the hat/head-beard/body Fibonacci ratios - thx?
I too, am familiar with Fibonacci and his numbering sequences but I’m not sure how it applies here?
Hey, Dave, I'm Sal from Italy, what wood do you use?
Is there a printable pattern for the santa?
Tanks what Wood take for carving

Yes you can do carving without eyes,,.. but you can't fool a 3 year old , first question was where are Santa's eyes papa.
