It’s honestly very strange that Queen Victoria’s white wedding gown, which most of the world didn’t get to see until much later, has become such a staple in Western Culture that people feel this disgusted by the thought of a bride wearing a colorful gown. 1840 wasn’t even that long ago…
yeah and there are very many parts of the world where such white dresses were never any part of wedding ceremonies. personally I love seeing Indian weddings, all those rich colors are so beautiful!
I'm from Spain, and non-rich women didn't wear a special white dress until mid 20th Century. They usually wore their sunday best, or a new dress or suit that could later be used as sunday best (usually in black, because it was the color that was preferred for going to church, plus the color for mourning, so it would be more useful).
Before then blue was actually a common color. The reason for the rapid change is white showed off wealth as it was costly to keep clean. During the Victorian era the middle class really became a thing. The middle class actively tried to emulate the upper class in order to separate themselves from lower class people. None of that seems quite so absurd when we think about how royalty have been the trendsetters or society until recently it makes more sense. Often times when something becomes ingrained in culture, people attach morality to its existence. When often those garments creation was either the result of classical or practicality.
Im of the opinion that the bridal party should stfu about the brides' dress, especially if all they're gonna do is hate on the one thing she really wants/likes about it. They can have their hot takes and disagreements on the bridesmaids dresses, but unless they're actually gonna be helpful with the brides' dress selection (ie point how one fits or compliments better than another etc) then they need to shut up.
exactly! of course useful feedback like "the cut of dress A suited your figure better, I think" or even "this dress seems like impractical to sit down" is completely fine, but at the end it'll always be "personally I might have liked the other dress better, but it's your day and your decision so chose which ever dress makes you most happy!".
I just can’t imagine being surrounded by such negative people in this situation. These are *allegedly* people who love and care about you. Why would you be so mean and unjustly opinionated with someone you love? Regardless, I’m glad these girls were able to stand by their convictions and make their visions a reality.
When I started my florist business ages ago, the very first wedding was a pink wedding dress for the bride. I also love a little color! As someone who is deathly pale, I went with an off-white/pink wedding dress after trying on a lot of white. Super pure white made me look like a ghost.
Technically true, but I can totally see what she means 😅 Her arms are free and her skirt might not be light, but it‘s „airy“ if that makes sense? It‘s not as tight as the other one and that gives it a sense of lightness in my opinion. And the appliqué did match her theme, I think…
I got married in ‘93 and a local designer in Venice CA made a custom baby pink wedding dress for me. I was 35 years old. It was my first wedding and I was going to order and buy a dress I would love. I am so happy she’s getting a pink dress.
I know they ham it up for the tv but it’s so terribly sad when the wedding group is so unsupportive and hurtful. I got married in a red ball gown and my sister who is a rock chick got married in a beautiful black gown. Our mum wasn’t sure at first but luckily just wanted us to be happy and feel like a Queen for the day ❤ (and this is going back a significant number of years 😂)

My daughter in law was so nervous to pick out her dress. She wanted black, specifically to match a veil she had made. I told her it was important for her to get the dress that she loved, and Ben if others didn’t care for it. She tried on many different dresses, some were black, some were white, because they could be ordered in black but they didn’t have them in stock. And then…. She saw a dress that someone was hanging up that she has to try on. It was double her budget, but she fell in love, I offered to pay the difference because it made her so happy. Ironically she then bought a different veil. Her whole plan changed, BUT it was her choice.
as someone who's had wedding fever lately (I blame watching too much say yes to the dress on youtube) and is also queer and in a relationship I consider queerplatonic, I've come to realize how much of pushing wedding traditions is just like...pushing traditions that don't really mean anything anymore (wearing white isn't even a tradition based on anything, it's just a fashion trend started by the biggest celeb in the victorian era aka queen victoria) so like, wear what you want, do what you want, and give your relatives something to gossip about since they're gonna do it anyway.
yep exactly, white doesn't have any 'tradition' beyond a famous person having worn it first - and it got so much attention because it was unusual at that time. Imagine Boyoncé or Taylor Swift marrying in a short, deep green gown and then in a couple of years green would become the standard wedding color, would be exactly the same.
My late mother got married in a purple dress in front of a justice for the peace. To honor her, I will be wearing a dress I naturally dye purple for my wedding. Color can be beautiful!
I think any color can be bridal, but the veil is what really makes it. Accessories are so important and that’s the most acceptable time you can really wear one in western culture…
I think you're right. The second bride's pink dress looked more like a prom dress until they added the veil. It just rounds the look out as 'bridal' and she can take the veil off after the ceremony - that can be the 50/50 she's really meant 😄
As someone who got married in a dusty mauve pink wedding dress, I'm all for breaking the norms and wearing whatever color makes you feel comfortable & happy! I tried on multiple white wedding gowns before ultimately decided it didn't feel quite "me." Don't be afraid to wear color on your wedding day 💗
I was very concerned that the second bride's mother in law might go full Uber-Karen, based on the strong opinions and the spiky haircut, and I am very glad she was supportive by the end. Loved seeing these two brides get their perfect dresses. 💖
It irritates me that anyone in the bridal party would do anything BUT support what the bride wants. Whatever the content, however, I always love a new video from you, darling boy!
I’m reality, if you get a pure white dress it will look blue in digital photos, that’s why most are a shade of ivory now, it photographs as white. My dress was a light blush color and in most photos it looks white.
I wore red for my wedding. Anything resembling white was never going to be an option. My oldest sister in law wore grey for hers and she looked absolutely stunning.
Completely and totally unrelated lol but my dog got one of those cones recently and on the bill it was tagged, “Edwardian collar.” I was like ooo what a fanciful fashionable man we are! 😂

In a somewhat tangential way, the mermaid silhouette dress that she wears brought my mind to Marion Cotillard's iconic custom Jean Paul Gaultier gown from when she won the Academy Award for Best Actress in 2008. I'd love to see you do a video ranking the looks of all of the Best Actress winners throughout history -- or something similar!
Here to second this!! For me it’s Michelle Williams yellow Vera Wang dress in 2006. The red lip, the hair, Michelle and Heath were so in love and just welcomed their daughter. The whole thing was perfection.
I love these. Luke is so supportive of the brides, but then never holds it against the entourage either, he is happy they're on board by the end ❤ I recently went wedding dress shopping myself, and I want to thank you Luke for your frequent comments about unnecessary belts! The dress I chose has a satin belt and I asked the assistant not to put it on! She agreed it looks better without 😄
I'm super pale so I rarely look good in white. Even if I do, it would still ruin all the pictures because I would be a walking reflective panel.😂 I normally don't like pink but somehow I love pink (and lavender) wedding dresses. My taste is exactly the opposite from yours. I don't like the first one - especially the two colors on it. It would leave me with an impression that the bodice got discolored in the closet. The last one was very whimsical and the pattern will look good on the beach IMO, but it would probably look better if it wasn't cut off in the middle with this draped plain fabric instead of flowing naturally through the whole dress. To each their own.😉
After watching these videos I realize how lucky I was when I went dress shopping. I brought my mom and sister with me and they were nothing but supportive.
Thanks Luke!! I surprised myself and fell completely in love with a blush dress which ended up being my wedding dress 💖 It was prefect for our fairy tale winter wedding

my best friend who is korean wore a red wedding dress which i love, and in her culture it is a normal thing you wear red to celebrate thing and white is for deaths
I love a colored dress as long as it looks bridal and not homecoming. I cant for your reaction to green dresses. The singer kelis had a green dress. First time ever seeing one
I love colored dresses and even those who prefer different styles. If I ever get married that would be a fun thing to keep in mind cuz I’m not fond of the white to off-white dresses all the time and especially how the meaning changed so much over time.
YES! I love yes to the dress!!! ❤ I really think all the white dresses that were pulled had the option of coming in that baby pink bc it's the bride's color choice. ❤
Stop sponsoring better health already. The company sold patients confidential information, does not require professional qualifications for the therapist and plenty of people had issues with being billed while not being able to get matched with any therapist (effectively not receiving the service they paid for).
Is it really that frowned upon? I had no idea! My mother, in the '80s, wore a light blue silk jacker and mini skirt tailluer for her wedding! And they actually had a religious ceremony (Christian).
I just read an interesting story about a woman who is a professional bridesmaid. An independent third-party who has no reason not to be an advocate for the bride. Maybe you should consider doing something similar only in the dress choosing phase. After seeing some of the horrible abuse, these brides go through from their family and friends. You might be exactly what the doctor ordered. Just a thought.❤🙂
Hi Luke from the stroppy little island, u.k !! That southern drawwwl ! I love any & all accents , love listening to your n.y. wise-guy heehee ! Loved you telling us what you hear on the mean streets.. And humour , always humour alongside a skilled eye. Choosing to not go full fashion roast on these ladies' choices is good. I wish they had shown us an image of the first beautiful lady's pink version of her chosen dress, just a still pic at the end. Very glad she stuck to her wish for pink. Her bridesmaids etc could wear another colour or tone of their liking & it would still work, do you think ? The funny dramatics among the staff is gr8 too. Thanx from ol' fangirl Ali x
Thank youuuu! I have been rewatching your old reacting say yes to the dress vids all week!! hahaha! I don't watch the show but i love your reaction to the program! So glad you continue to make these
In Germany, normal people began to wear white wedding dresses only during the first half of the 20th century. Before it was all colorful folk dresses or just festive clothing..!
I don't understand how you could be hating so bad on a wedding dress just because it's slightly pink? I don't know, if the entourage gave constructive criticism on how the dress doesn't really enhance their natural beauty and body because of this and this and that, alright, but they just reject the dress just because it doesn't match their personal preferences? I honestly don't understand. I'd rather fight on how the shape is (subjectively speaking) ugly rather than the colour. And it's only a light pink, imagine if it were a dark dress! You'd look more like a bride if you wore a beautiful pink or blue princess dress rather than a white two-piece tailored skirt suit. I don't know, you don't need to be dressed in white to look like a bride, what makes a wedding dress is the grandeur of the dress, not necessarily its white colour.
I never understood family/friends/soon-to-be family having a say in what dress you should wear or how your wedding should look like.. It's my wedding, you can have a suggestion but I have the final say
I jsut don't understand these 'friends' like if you hate pink for a wedding dress tell her she looks great and the nsay but it's not giving bride, because legit the first girl looked so fire in that blush dress and her entourage were just like 🤢 I was so confused 😢
Great content, thanks for sharing. My relationship of 5 years ended a month ago. The love of my life decided to leave me, Really love her so much, i can’t stop thinking about her. I’ve tried my very best to get her back in my life but to no avail, I’m frustrated because i literally can't envision my life with anyone else. I’ve done my best to get rid of the thoughts of her but I can’t, I don’t know why I’m saying this here, I really miss her and just can’t stop thinking about her.
Your feelings are understandable, It's always difficult to let go of someone you love, i was in a similar situation when my wife of 12 years left me, i couldn't just let her go. I did all I could to get her back, I had to seek the help of a spiritual adviser who helped me bring her back.

My wedding dress is blush. I have a lot of pink undertones in my skin so it actually looks white. The other colors (ivory, white, etc.) looked wrong against my skin tone.
obviously she can't because then where would the tv drama be. But honestly if I was a boutique consultant and had a party who was so against the colour the bride wanted, I would 1000% just tell her its available in pink in the fitting room and let them all agree how stunning she looks in a white/ivory sample. They can suck it up on the day its not their wedding, especially if they aren't paying anything towards the dress their opinion doesn't matter if the bride is set on it

better help is a scam, why do you keep promoting them? so many people came forward with their stories how badly they've been treated by "professionals" on there
my best friend who is korean wore a red wedding dress which i love, and in her culture it is a normal thing you wear red to celebrate thing and white is for deaths
I love a colored dress as long as it looks bridal and not homecoming. I cant for your reaction to green dresses. The singer kelis had a green dress. First time ever seeing one
Because of my skin tone, I went ivory instead of pure white. Pure white typically washes me out and the ivory made me glow
I love colored dresses and even those who prefer different styles. If I ever get married that would be a fun thing to keep in mind cuz I’m not fond of the white to off-white dresses all the time and especially how the meaning changed so much over time.
love your channel - would love to see you reevaluate your better help sponsorship in light of their history of selling user’s sensitive data…
Life is short…..wear ANY color you want! 😉
She should not have brought these people. They are mean and some will be in the wedding!!
I ❤love this first bride ❤she's powerful and strong in her convictions. ❤
YES! I love yes to the dress!!! ❤
I really think all the white dresses that were pulled had the option of coming in that baby pink bc it's the bride's color choice. ❤
i really wish they'd stop being sponsored by betterhelp, i understand getting that sponsorship but they're so dodgy
I love the second pink dress! It will be perfect for a Caribbean wedding!
Stop sponsoring better health already. The company sold patients confidential information, does not require professional qualifications for the therapist and plenty of people had issues with being billed while not being able to get matched with any therapist (effectively not receiving the service they paid for).
Please stop accepting Better Help sponsorship, they are not a good company.
Love the vid !
My mother wore a blush pink minidress in 1970, loved it🩷
I love how you’re happy when the bride is happy. 👏👏
OMG this entourage!!
Is it really that frowned upon? I had no idea! My mother, in the '80s, wore a light blue silk jacker and mini skirt tailluer for her wedding! And they actually had a religious ceremony (Christian).
love! every time you do one of these I become more convinced that I do not want a white wedding dress
I know this is a tv show and it is edited, but they are absolute a-holes.
Maybe the mom should have taken her sunglasses on, can't imagine what color she saw.
So glad you continue to make these
Same!!!
My mum got married in pink, and my cousin got married in red.
Who cares what colour you're wearing, as you're happy!
Love your channel so much but your sponsor is a scam...😢
Why did I hear “crystallized Asians” instead of “crystallizations”? 🤦🏽♀️ 😅
All i know is: for my wedding, if your opinion is not asked shut the hell up because idgf 😂 it's my day and i'll wear and do what makes ME happy,
I jsut don't understand these 'friends' like if you hate pink for a wedding dress tell her she looks great and the nsay but it's not giving bride, because legit the first girl looked so fire in that blush dress and her entourage were just like 🤢 I was so confused 😢
Wow, how did you get a spiritual adviser, and how do i reach him/her?
Her name is MONICA ERLENE MORA, and she is a great spiritual adviser as well as a caster and healer.
Thank you for this valuable information, I just looked her up online. impressive.
The audacity of a Mother in Law trashing a bride for wanting pink WHILE WEARING A PINK SHIRT is absolutely baffling to me.
I enjoy these SYTTD reaction videos so much! MORE PLEASE!!!
Honestly if I ever got married, I'd wear something on the pink side. Or even better, a light purple.
Luke ❤I love everything you say❤😊thanks for your work
I had some wine before watching this video. I thought you said "crystallized Asians".
So did the subtitles.
These videos are my ultimate combination❤ . I adore Luke's videos, and I love SYTTD (well any wedding show, I'm actually addicted!) 💖 I'm here for it all 🤣 My last wedding dress was pink. I loved it soo much I got it altered, and renewed our vows the next year.... hahahaha!!
I'm sure the families are encouraged to play up for the camera, but I always think it's so selfish when they try to shame the bride for her choices.
My wedding dress is blush. I have a lot of pink undertones in my skin so it actually looks white. The other colors (ivory, white, etc.) looked wrong against my skin tone.
Noo not Betterhelp
Not "appease the vicar" 🤣
And since when does the Mother In Law have ANY SAY. Regardless
I'm from the Outer Hebrides and I think... cool 😅
obviously she can't because then where would the tv drama be. But honestly if I was a boutique consultant and had a party who was so against the colour the bride wanted, I would 1000% just tell her its available in pink in the fitting room and let them all agree how stunning she looks in a white/ivory sample. They can suck it up on the day its not their wedding, especially if they aren't paying anything towards the dress their opinion doesn't matter if the bride is set on it
I had a pink silk dupion dress when I got married in 1990! Very unusual then.
Oh I would DEFINITELY be looking at pink/ blush wedding dresses. I love the idea of a non traditional wedding dress.
My dress was blush!
I swear you have taken an already favorite wholesome show and created an even more wholesome and enjoyable viewing experience.
First bride looked best in the first dress all the way.
